Hightide Hotel release ‘Secret Somethings, Volume 2’ cassette

Philadelphia, PA's Hightide Hotel has released a new cassette entitled Secret Somethings, Volume 2. In addition to the cassette, it's up for stream/free download at the group's Bandcamp page.

Secret Somethings, Volume 2 follows up the band's recent full-length for Runner Up Records, Nothing Was Missing, Except Me.

With the resurgence of vinyl as a viable format the hipsters have had little choice but to migrate to a format so unbearably inconvenient and pointless that the mainstream won't ever touch it.

So much this. I'm annoyed with the cassette releases lately, especially when In Bear Country decided to do it. Putting out vinyl as your only phyiscal release is totally legit considering the superiority of the audio quality as compared to digital, but who wants to listen to tape hiss or have to rewind/fast forward to find a song? Nostalgia and kitsch seem to be the only motivations. Total thumbs down.

Tapes are so much better than vinyl. In terms of quality, portability, and usefulness.

The only reason anyone still puts out records to please collectors and make some money.

Considering the fact I can get a top of line tape deck for a fraction of the price of a comparable record playing setup, the ease of use, and no maintenance required for my collection or player, yes i do believe.

I was rightfully pissed when all cassette support got dropped, in terms of performance and quality they have outlasted even most cds and cd players I have owned.

obviously, it's true about the expense, but cheaper doesn't always mean better. some of my tapes have gotten pretty damn worn over the years as well. on the flip side, i can't play my vinyl in the car.

come to think of it, maybe i should invest in one of those record players where you can transfer your vinyls to mp3 players.

I got one of the Ion turntables. Recording quality via usb is about the same as running the audio through the mic jack on my laptop, so I'd say it's more of a convenience thing. Still a decent record player.

definitely gonna look into that, then. i have an ipod adapter for the car, so that'd be a nice way to get some of my old stuff on the go with me.

I have never heard of this band and I live in Philly. Weird.

Also, Stay Sweet Fest was amazing and it totally destroyed me. Good stuff.
