Tommy Stinson (Replacements) announces ‘One Man Mutiny’

Tommy Stinson (Replacements, [sigh] Guns N Roses) has announced plans for his second solo album. The record is titled One Man Mutiny and is due out August 30, 2011 via Stinson's own Done To Death Music imprint. It'll be his first solo album since 2004's Village Gorilla Head.

A song from the album entitled "Meant to Be" can be heard via SPIN.

The 'Mats are my second favorite band of all time but I've never checked out any of Tommy's solo stuff. Westerberg's stuff has always been so frustratingly inconsistent (though "Stereo/Mono" and "Come Feel Me Tremble" are three amazing albums) so I've always been wary of checking out any other solo projects from the band members. Is it worth it?

His two albums (well, one ep, one album) with Perfect were absolutely terrific. Bash & Pop was good as well, but you could tell a few tunes were phoned in. VGH was a bit more experimental, but wasn't bad. It seemed a bit more mellow than some of his previous output. Either way, I'll surely check this out.

There's a very clear line drawn in Westerberg's solo career separating his '90s records and '00s records. Once he got dropped by Reprise and had to go back to the indies, he lost that stifling ego and finally started making good music again. It's funny that he's been making some of the best music of his career now that absolutely nobody is paying attention to him. If you haven't heard Folker and 49:00 yet, get on those.

That's about how I feel. I have "Besterberg:" and I think that's really all I need from the major label years. I agree with 49:00 but am on the total opposite end with "Folker." There are a few great song (ever see his performance of "As Far As I Know" on Ferguson? Amazing - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8of9hY_R0cU ) and the only time I've seen him was when he was touring on that record, there's a review archived here, but overall "Folker" doesn't leave any real impression on me.

You're entitled to dislike Guns n' Roses all you want, but for a website that continually covers total fucking garbage mall punk to only bust out the "[sigh]" when discussing them is ridiculous. Half the bands that get covered on here are 100 times worse (and dare I say less punk than) Guns n' Roses. I mean fuck, every day there's another fucking Sublime with Rome article on here. How come that shit doesn't get a sigh?
