Videos: Tim Barry: “Amen”

Singer/songwriter Tim Barry has released a video for the track "Amen". The song comes from his upcoming album 40 Miler on Chunksaah Records.

Tim Bary last released 28th & Stonewall in 2010.

It almost seems strange to me at this point that Tim used to shout in a hardcore band. His solo music is incredible, it definately connect with me in a way that Avail never did

Avail (along with Rancid) are my favorite bands. Tim Barry solo is amazing and even better live. But Over the James was by far the best CD I was listening to at 16. It was so great to listen to hardcore that was melodic (truly, and vocally, not just in terms of chord progression), soulful, and captured punk ehtos without being overtly political. I also just realized the other day that part of what made Avail so great was the reverse breakdown, and I just fabricated that term. What I mean is that most of the songs begin kind of dischordant and choatic and then break into a melody musically/vocally at the chorus. Long before I could identify this phenomenon, these songs made me feel like I could triumph and succeed within whatever framework or lifestyle I chose. As cheesy and as much of a stretch as that take-away seems, that was an incredible message to receive as a teenager. And I still get chills when I think about seeing Avail in 2001 my senior year.

i saw them a bunch of times starting in 96 or 97 but i couldn't really get into them for whatever reason. i really liked the first album they did for Fat Wreck (something about a Wrench i think)

This is probably going to come out sounding harsh and i would never say it to his face because he would probably beat me down but is this song basically saying "Look at me, I did all this stuff without your hel, I'm really awesome" or is more of a "I don't need all your help I'm gunna do it anyway" type of song?
