Altpress.com has posted the new video for Patrick Stump's (of Fall Out Boy fame) song "The City." The song and video features fellow Chicagoen Lupe Fiasco. The song is off his forthcoming solo album, Soul Punk, schedule to release next month on Island Records.

Also, who's idea was it to try to turn this guy into a pop star? His hair is thinning, his teeth look scary, he's kind of plump and he definitely can't dance like a Justin Timberlake. That world is entirely based on image and even the imperfect people who slip through the cracks on American Idol don't ever go on to have long term success (Soul Patrol guy, Ruben Studdard)

Dude's always loved pop music and has been pretty upfront about it from the get-go, and I'm not sure if you're looking at old pictures or what, but this dude isn't very plump anymore.

He also played every instrument on this album, so I'm willing to give him some more props than your usual pop star.

Yeah, well Maroon 5 play their own instruments too but that doesn't mean I'm going to put them on a pedestal. Too bad Stump wasn't as lucky as their lead singer in the looks department though.

I'm honestly fine with Maroon 5. They'd sound a lot better if they just were a little less rigid, they should listen to some more Hall and Oates.

plus one of them was in Reel Big Fish for a short time.

once in Detroit before they got big, they opened for Mustard Plug, i think because the promoter was asked by an agent to put them on a show, he saw that one of the guys was in RBF and decided that they must be a great fit for the show (obivously done without actually listening to Maroon 5.)

the guitarist toured with them (rbf) while aaron had a broken arm and couldn't play guitar. maroon 5 was already a band at that point.

Dude's gonna make a lot of money with this. This had mass appeal written all over it. Looking toward the positive...Am I naive to imagine that his doing music like this might generate interest in punk music for some folks that never would have cared otherwise?

MikeApathy you are way off, the top 40 kid will just keep eating the crap that lady gaga and the rest of the mainstream feeds him - especially if he/ she can't see through this. This should be the litmus test of good taste in music - if you like this - you have bad taste...vice versa. I personally do not think he is going to do well with this - it is all so fabricated and calculated. I think this will be the thing that he looks back on in 5 years and slaps is forhead saying, "What was I thinking" I think if he just released an honest stripped down solo album it would be alright - this is plastic, disposable, and copycat stuff right here. Dude has talent - just needs to be original about it.

Yeah, agree with you. It's kind of like that time Chris Cornell made that album with Timberland. The song has a hook and everything but it doesn't really separate itself from the rest of the dancetronic music that's been put out there for the past few years. Maybe you'll overhear the song being used in the commercial for a new episode of Extreme Makeover Home Edition but I wouldn't be surprised if all of Fall Out Boy is found reuniting in a year or two.
