I've never really understood the love for Samiam. They have a couple of killer songs (eg: Dull) but outside of that, they don't impress me at all.

I think Samiam's probably second behind Nothington for me. Really like the new Cobra Skulls too. I can't believe people like the Horrible Crowes album though. No one would care at all if it wasn't a Brian Fallon project. Sounds like a mediocre bar band.

Just curious... how exactly is this tabulated? Because Nothington's album has a better user rating than Horrible Crowes, and equal Reviewer rating, and more people have shared it on Facebook, yet Horrible Crowes is higher on the list. This doesn't make any sense to me. I'm not whining, I am just curious.

The less eye-rolling and condescension in the response to this, the better, please.

Horrible Crowes might have been rated by a lot more people - kind of making the score it got from users more "solid" - although I'm not sure how they calculate that exactly.

That's what I figured too.... but that just means a shitload of people rated the Horrible Crowes four stars.... isn't it just a popularity contest at that point, if the Crowes are higher on the list?

Shouldn't it be more of a quality of votes over quantity of votes thing? If fifty people vote something 4.5 stars and 100 people vote something 4 stars, seems to me the former should be considered better rated.

That way people can get exposed to more music they're not familiar with, as opposed to another band with fucking Brian Fallon in it. It's a shame that a band like Night Birds gets so low on the list, even though a lot of people around here love it.

I definitely see what you are saying, but if someone submits a review for some obscure band (not saying that's the case with HC/Nothington) and the only people who bother rating it are two friends of the band who both give it a perfect score, that shouldn't be the best album of the month because Cobra Skulls got noticed and rated by like 40 more people and ended up with 4 stars (whatever, I don't wanna bother looking up what it actually got) and, therefore, isn't the favorite album. I think the fact that a bunch of people bothered to rate it shows some favor to the album unless it got 2 and 1 star ratings.
