At The Drive-In to reunite

Alternative Press is reporting that seminal post-hardcore band At the Drive-In will be reuniting, after 11 years apart. They have launched a new website and a Twitter account. The site is fairly minimal for the time being, merely saying: "¡ ATTENTION ! To whom it may concern: AT THE DRIVE-IN will be breaking their 11 year silence THIS STATION IS …NOW…OPERATIONAL."

At the Drive-In called it quits in 2001, after releasing Relationship Of Command in 2000. Members went on to form The Mars Volta and Sparta.

I'd imagine a bunch of fests, one or two "small" shows to "warm up" and they'll headline some 1000+ type things.

No. Totally disagree. Slayer are a 2000 cap band, on a whole. If they were gone for 10 years, it'd be a different story. ATDI is a novelty, as it's a reunion. They'll be getting WAY more than you'd think.

He's right, you're wrong. There was another band that's been gone a LONG time, and an acquaintance of mine almost got the unnamed band to reunite. Only problem? Not the $800,000 they asked for. The show was going to fall around the due-date of someone's wife.
They still haven't played. If you knew the band, you'd rip your boner off with excitement. It would have been a BIG fucking deal.

Well why not SXSW? I guess its too close. And how big is ATDI? Were they ever on the Radio or MTV? I wouldn't know. I never pay attention to either or. It seems like fun fun fun has had bands just as big as ATDI.

Big Deal.... I remember seeing these guys all the time in Texas opening for all the great bands like Murder City Devils and Botch.
I think it was bears mentioning this band used to play alot of shows way back when with an amazing band from south texas known at Four Man March (that only had 3 members) but were so fucking amazing live.

its wierd, i remember an interview with omar a few years back that said he wouldn't do an ATDI reunion because he didn't wanna play songs that he wrote ten years ago, or something like that. Soon after, Cedric was interviewed by somebody else and said, he would do a reunion show if the money was right. It must take a lot of money to get those two on the same page with this, and i don't think there is a prayer of seeing them in a club or small venue, but we can always keepour fingers x'd.

2003. i was at a midnight release for korn's new album, "untouchables." While waiting in line i was given this free sampler dvd with all sorts of bands. (mostly nu-metal.) scattered throughout the selection of music videos was a band called, At the Drive-In. their video was for a song called, "One Armed Scissor." I watched it and found myself amazing at these "normal" lookin' guys with shaggy hair and afros who were playing intense music without baggy pants and drop-tuned bass lines.

I allowed myself, for the first time ever at that age, to do some hardcore research into this band. What i found was a portal into an entire different world of everything. My tastes in music changed instantly. I stopped dressing stupid. (jinco's really were stupid. i''m not arguing with anyone that they weren't because the WERE...) and my whole perspective on arts and culture re-defined me. I actually grew up and started trying to be more mature. It was an lifestyle change. I entered into more underground subcultures and tried out new things. "mainstream" became my enemy.

ATDI are a band that mean a lot to me. Regardless of what anyone thinks, i hold these guys up high, not for their legacy or whatever, but for the fact that they led me into much better stuff. They were my gateway band and i support this reunion. I hope i can see them and to stop saying, "I wish ATDI would reunite." It looks like some sort of circle is being completed.

I agree that not everyone should like every major cult-following band, but we should all respect that each of these bands meant something to someone. I can't pinpoint what my gateway band was, but even if we go back and feel differently about the band now, we'll still always have soft spot in our heart for them.

I feel the exact same way about this band. They meant so much to me when I was a kid and really helped me form my taste in music, my views of bands and I guess the whole sub-culture of being "underground" and being "different".

However there is a part of me that holds this band on the highest of level of respect and them being broken up and doing different things always kept them "pure" (for lack of a better term) and a mystery to my younger self.

I guess what i'm trying to say is that until I know the reasons for them deciding to reunite i'm not sure i can get behind this reunion at all. Mostly because the songs they play won't have the same feeling as they once did and the other reason is, well, if they write a new record and it sucks that mystery will be gone.

I'm so torn on this reunion.

I remember going to my local FYE to buy Alien Ant Farm's CD when I stumbled upon Relationship of Command. I had seen the video for One armed Scissor on MTV2 a few times and i dug it. After a somewhat lengthy internal debate I decided upon Relation of Command. After that nu-metal quickly dropped out of my collection and punk quickly took over. I feel like I'm forever in ATDI's debt.

As a teenager in a mid-size town, my friends assured my dislike of this band by heralding them like they were the second coming of Christ and listening to them over and over and over again. The one time I almost saw them live I wasn't 21- and couldn't get in the club. So most of my dislike of this band is completely personal and not based off of their whiny ass vocals that became the norm. And the godawful tight black t-shirts.

One of the most obnoxious live bands I ever saw in my life (admittedly when I saw them they were opening for some crappy pop punk band that I wont even admit to seeing at this point in time), but running up to people trying to watch you play and singing/screaming in their face doesnt really cut it. I can't recall a crowd more indifferent to a band With all the good bands from the 90s and early 2000's reuniting, this is one I'm not that excited about. Plus I hate their hair.
