Russ Rankin (Good Riddance, Only Crime) recording for solo project

Russ Rankin, known for his work with groups such as Good Riddance and Only Crime, announced via his twitter that he has begun work on a solo project:

Starting my first solo album. Trying to make it a "Three Song Thursday" with [Paul Miner of Buzzbomb Studio].

Rankin last released Virulence in 2007 with Only Crime.

This could be interesting, he has a great voice. On the other hand I wasn't too into his track on the Johnny Cash tribute a few years ago

Only saw them once, with NUFAN, like 14 years ago. A girl I knew asked Russ to sign her tits; he refused and bitched her out, humiliating her in front of a crowd of punx she was trying to impress. Great show, and while I don't listen to them anymore, I have to respect the guy for being such a sanctimonious dick. A man after my own heart.

I saw them with 88-fingers Louie when I was 5 years old. My step-dad held me on his shoulders in the pit.

I only saw them once on warped but it was the performance that first suggested to me that perhaps punk could be good without horns or ska.

Only saw Only Crime and he always came off as either bored or pissed off.

I've been rocking For God & Country lately like it's going out of style. Not sure how his voice will hold up acoustically and stripped down, but I hope it's awesome. It could probably suck and I'd still rock it like my hard on for Good Riddance.
