Media: Mogwai: “Earth Division”

Mogwai are streaming a previously-unreleased song, "Earth Division." The song is set to appear on Occupy This Album!, a 99-song collection to benefit the Occupy Wall Street movement. The compilation is set for a May 15th, 2012 release, and will also feature Willie Nelson, U.N.K.L.E., The Nightwatchman, and many more.

I can't listen to the Mogwai song right now, but I'll assume that it's exactly like everyone of their songs: pleasantly enjoyable but not substantial enough to warrant repeat listens.

Mogwai is one of the more tolerable "second-wave post-rock" bands, in my opinion. I really can't stand this current homogenized post-rock fad, which is, quite frankly, boring as all hell. I still listen to bands like Talk Talk, Bark Psychosis, Slint, Tortoise, etc. on a monthly basis...they're so much more original, experimental and textured, and totally deserving of a title like "post-rock". It's not just incessant guitar noodling that sounds like it should be played in the background of a trailer for a quirky indie drama.
