Jack Kelly (Slapshot) issues apology video

Jack Kelly, frontman of Boston hardcore band Slapshot has issued a video apologising to a number of parties for his part in a variety of disagreements, disputes, and apparent misunderstandings, spread over a number of years, but mostly focusing on New York. The clip, which came to our attention via our friends at GlueHC, clocks in at 4:40 seconds, and can be streamed below.

I live in New York and always liked the song "Fuck New York". Aside from one mildly offensive line about 9/11 it's pretty funny- didn't think anyone took it seriously but guess hardcore isn't known for its sense of humor.

To which "Lord Ezec" (big DMS gangsta crew dude in the NYHC scene/singer for a band nobody listens to) responded by calling for people to never book Slapshot again, as well as a (barely) veiled threat to beat Choke until he needed facial reconstruction. Funny enough, that all happened a few years ago, and the only time I hear about Slapshot touring, it's been Europe. My guess is, shit finally caught up with them. Or they want to tour the US, but can't for fear of the shit that happened to Integrity happening to them (getting beat up at their shows).

Honestly, though, my biggest problem with Slapshot is that they've sucked since around the time I was born and just kept getting worse. Everything up to and including "Step On It" is gold, though. Choke pissing off people and getting banned everywhere is practically the only thing I liked about them at this point.

It goes back to the late 80s/early 90s. When NYC hardcore scene started getting really big and getting more "thug" he started, very openly, talking shit about it. Boston and NYC had a rivalry/fought going back to the early 80s. It's not to say dudes didn't totally overreact and act like neanderthals at times, but this dude basically brought it on himself. His "Fuck New York" song was years after he'd gotten tossed around by some dudes and, it was basically a done issue.

As for Europe, they're really big there, like significantly bigger than they are any where in the states and there's definitely been the "Integrity factor,' you mention.

Yeah, I know he'd gotten slapped around prior to "Fuck New York" and that throw up, but it seems like those things were just his bitter way of not accepting total defeat. To me, though, it seems like one of the few things that made Slapshot seem relevant at all... I think the reason they tour Europe all the time is because it's an easier tour circuit if you're looking for money.

You're right, too; America is a tough touring nut to crack. Lots of long drives if you're playing EVERYWHERE. You can hit TONS of major cities in Europe in similarly distanced drives in Europe. And Europe for old hardcore bands is like the midwest for washed up radio rock bands; people eat that shit up there.
