High on Fire cancels summer touring, guitarist enters rehab

High On Fire, who earned a four-star review for their 2012 album De Vermis Mysteriis, have been forced to cancel their summer touring plans including the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. The band made a statement to explained the cancellation:

High on Fire would like to thank everyone involved with the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival for the opportunity to be a part of this year's tour. We regretfully will have to bow out as our friend [and guitarist Matt Pike] begins his recovery, but very much appreciate having been asked to be a part of this summer's festival run.

The band has put all touring plans on hold indefinitely as Pike takes the necessary steps towards regaining his health.

Damn, I saw Sleep last weekend and he killed it. It was even his birthday, there was a cake at the end. Crazy. Though I guess I might've been tripping too hard off brownies and heatstroke to notice he was in bad shape.

I hate 12-step cultism and weepy self-help bullshit, but alcohol addiction is no joke -- I'm pretty sure it's actually the most dangerous drug to withdraw from if you're truly dependent. Good for him, he has to live so I can cling to hope for a "Dopesmoker" sequel.
