I would be genuinely curious to hear how this "math" works, or some kind of justification for why the new Reel Big Fish album lands at #10 despite an audience score of 2.5 against a critical score of .5.

Riverboat Gamblers is #1 but I really enjoy Masked Intruder and Holy Mess. I ordered them from red scare and demanded a free copy of Borrowed Time on vinyl to no avail.

Very deserving of #1. Regardless of 'gimmicks' they play and sing amazing songs. Their vocal harmonies are spot on (on the record and live, which you can not say for many bands (aside from Nothington)).

This band has usurped many bands from the pop-punk spotlight.

Which will be re-iterated if you see them live.

Go see them.

I am not a part of the band.

But go.

I view punknews every single day, many times multiple times a day. Somehow, I have never heard of Masked Intruder even though apparently the 'ol .org has a huge bone raging over them. I just started listening on Spotify and I will totally have to agree with your sentiment. This is some awesome pop-punk and the harmonies are killing it. I can't wait to get off of work so I can go home and find a copy of this somewhere!

I dig your suggestions, but unfortunately, there's a thin line between self-deprecation and total mischaracterization. There's not much The Skibz can do with his underweight frame and relatively decent complexion, so I can only rely on illustrating the negative/mockable aspects of my personality rather than physical appearance, which, considering I'm an online persona on a message board, makes a lot more sense. Sorry. :(

Even if I really loved this band, I'd have to concede that they are, at the very least, gimmicky. The masks, names, fake identities, etc. etc. Whether it's a fad or not, I don't think they've been around long enough to tell.

Pop music, by it's nature, is trendy and cookie-cutter. The whole Masked Intruder thing is a gimmick. So, no dictionary necessary, eh?

And btw, it's not like I hate Masked Intruder or anything (I'll admit that the songs are catchy and that I can stand it for brief periods of time). It's just strange how these things are generally frowned upon in the punk community, yet when one of our own does it, we accept it without question. These guys are really great dudes from another awesome Madison, WI pop/punk band. It's sad how their main project isn't even half as well-known as this gimmicky side-project, though their other band is much better than this, IMO.
