Tours: Counting Crows / Mean Creek

Boston's Mean Creek have been tapped to provide support for Counting Crows on their upcoming tour. The band has been described as "the grandeur of Springsteen and the rebellion of the Replacements." Their record, Youth Companion, is due out October 16, 2012 .

God, I'm sick of hearing about bands that sound like "Springsteen and the Replacements"..As if those two sound anything alike. It's just like a few years ago when every new band sounded like "Hot Water Music and Jawbreaker".

They're similar enough. And, if I remember correctly, this band is actually a rootsy rock band and not a band who actually sound like a third gen jawbreaker/hwm ripoff pretending to be a rootsy rock band.

I actually love the counting crows. That being said, the last time I saw them Adam Duritz didn't seem to know where he was and forgot the lyrics to his own songs. That combined with the absence of "round here" from the set made the experience really disappointing.

Duritz is known for destroying his vocal rhythms and changing the words around. For some bands it can add to the experience but he does it so much that its just distracting and annoying.

The girlfriend would want to go though so I might be down.

No doubt...if you were around in the 90s you would not be into the nostalgia trip for Gin Blossoms, Third Eye Blind, Everclear, Spin Doctors, etc. These bands were shit then and they are shit now.

Sorry kids, toad the wet sprocket was the best band of the 90s. Gin blossoms were great too. Counting crows might sneak into the top ten. Third eye blind was shit.

I can think of a million "alternative" bands of the 90's that are waaay better than any of those that you listed. Shit, I'll take just one R.E.M. album over the whole discographies of Toad the Wet Sprocket, Gin Blossoms and Counting Crows combined. (No offense, I just was never into any of those bands.)

The last time I saw the Counting Crows was when they were touring with Maroon 5 in like '08. I'm excited that Mean Creek is now opening for them and also, that there are 3 dates in NY. Another band I'm trying to see soon is The Wallflowers. They're new album Glad All Over is pretty solid. Anyone else with me on that? Reboot The Mission has a sweet vibe.
