Videos: Trash Talk: “119”

Hardcore act Trash Talk have released a video for their song "119," the title track to their latest album. The record was released this week via Odd Future Records.

Be warned, the video contains some graphic imagery.

Pitchfork pandering generic/fake hardcore for people who don't listen or know anything about hardcore. "Oh, they're so wild and crazy!"

I wouldn't call it hardcore, but it's just modern So-Cal thrash skate punk, with maybe a bit of hardcore elements. Despite the legion of dipshits this band attracts(thanks to Odd Future) they aren't doing shit any different than other So Cal punk bands by getting together in an alley or warehouse, bbqing, and playing a couple of free shows on a saturday afternoon for all ages. In fact, this was just enough to make me want to hear the record. Fuck Pitchfork and whatever they have to say...

You're all wrong. Their an Olney, Maryland surf-Prog-jazz bop band. It's pretty typical for this area. Overrated.

I can dig what you're saying being a fan of hardcore since I was 13. I really don't like pitchfork at all , but what I don't agree with is the fact that you're shit talking a band for using a magazine to get promoted. Even if pitchfork is a hipster media outlet who cares because typically these endeavors mean extra money for records and touring. I like trash talk, but I don't like pitchfork. What I do like is pitchfork turning new people onto a band like trash talk so maybe they will hear other hardcore bands. I mean what's so bad about not knowing anything about hardcore? Listen to yourself you're just a jaded fuck face. I'm sure before you heard your first good punk band you were off listening to george strait and cheap trick.

They're make generic music and their whole appeal is based on schtick and hype.

A typical Pitchfork reader considers him or herself to be knowledgeable about music and in order to complete this concept needs to be into at least one band or artist of every genre. Trash Talk is their hardcore band and Trash Talk panders to this aesthetic. Not one person who gets into Trash Talk because of Pitchfork will get into any other hardcore band.

Lastly, I would listen to George Strait or Cheap Trick today. Those are talented and original artists. Trash Talk is a caricature. Genre is an illusion.

Oh please enlighten us, mighty Hardcore Gatekeeper, what does qualify as real hardcore? I'm not defending Trash Talk, I just love it when people become rule makers for punk/hardcore. I will wait with baited breath for your response, as I really want to know what "hardcore" bands I can listen to.

OK, maybe hardcore is a really loosely defined, but i'll just say, that in my opinion growing up, thrash to us(my group of friends and I) were bands like DRI, Suicidal Tendencies, Anchorwatt, Possessed, SOD, and Nuclear Assualt and what we considered hardcore were bands like Dagnasty, Agnostic Front, Minor Threat, and Bad Brains.. This was in the late 80's for us, so fuck off...
I like Trash Talk, and i actually like Odd Future, for as immature as they are... maybe it's their youthful factor and demeanor that's appealing in the lyrics, but I'm was just stating in response to guy above that Pitchfork is lame. I don't care anymore.. do you?

You missed my point completely. I'm not making rules. I just think that band and their schtick is bullshit. I'm sick of hearing about how wylde they are and how much drugs they do. Their music sucks.

I think their music is as good as anyone out there doing this style of hardcore/punk. Yes, there's a lot of hype and gimmick, but they back it up and are very solid live.

i personally like their music, some of it is generic, some of its creative. i wouldn't call it 'hardcore', but then again, who fucking cares what music is called if it generates a change of the senses. i could care less about some magazine or website approving of them, even if i liked or disliked the website, it has nothing to do with the music they're making. its not as if they're putting out splits with waaves or changing their sound in any way to accomodate hipster crowds, writing lyrics for them. i'd gladly take some hipsters money if it was made available by doing the same things i have been doing for years and i think its actually pretty cool that they're doing so.

Their schtick is being "wylde" and doing lots of drugs. They present it in a way that is palatable to the Ptichfork crowd. I have said this multiple times.

I don't give a shit what you "care about." I'm just pointing out the obvious. Also, how the fuck is their music not hardcore?

Next point: You don't care what a website or magazine thinks of them, but you really seem to care what I think. In fact I daresay you are butthurt over it. Interesting.

Last point: you're a fucking liar if you say there is no music you actively dislike. You're only upset because you think you have good taste and I'm pointing out that your taste is shit and that you are as susceptible to the hype machine as anyone. Rationalize it all you want. Throw all the ad hominem attacks at me all you want, your sheep wool is showing through your cool jacket.

119 is a terrible record, some of the most uninspired riffs I've heard all year long. There is only 3 or 4 decent tracks on there and thats not even saying much. Keep in mind this is coming from someone who loved everything Trash Talk put out.

Some people on here are ridiculously bent out of shape over nothing. I don't particularly care for the newer Trash Talk stuff but this band has been touring constantly since their first record came out...they put a ridiculous amount of work into the band and I'd rather have this coming up then most shit that does nowadays. Trash Talk was already ridiculously big for a hardcore band before they even MET Odd Future, period.
