Sam Russo details Red Scare debut (Exclusive)

Sam Russo, who recently joined Red Scare, has provided us with the details of his debut for the label. The record is titled Storm and is due out October 30, 2012 digitally and through Red Scare mailorder. He'll be celebrating the release with an appearance at The Fest in Gainesville soon after that release day.

can we get an mp3? Toby I think it's cool that you signed this guy upon hearsay, this next comment has nothing to do with you, what the fuck is up with the last few years and 10 tracks albums? I miss the 90's with 14 songs or even rap albums with like 18 songs, I feel cheated as a music buyer haha

maybe it has something to do with the vinyl resurgence? CDs hold 80 minutes, records hold about 40 -- with bands using vinyl again as the primary or, in some cases, only physical format, maybe they're being more conscious of running times? also with the need to offer digital bonuses and itunes exclusives and all that nonsense, maybe there is a tendency to hold back a few tracks instead of throwing everything on an album. this is my semi-educated guess.

While vinyl is making a resurgence, it is far from the primary format for most bands. I doubt that ten-track albums are any more common than they were five years ago; I think this guy just happens to be noticing a lot of them at once. Also remember that number of tracks does not determine the length of an album.

Sam comes highly recommended, but we didn't pair up with him purely on hearsay. We heard demos, of course. We'll have new music available to hear next week. Sorry there's nothing to listen to yet, but this is all coming together super fast and guerrilla-style. I see your point about 10-track albums, but in the case of "Storm", it's actually 38 minutes of music, so that seems about right. Hope that addresses all your thoughts!

true, I'm not complaining if it's 38 minutes that's a good length for an album, I guess it's just marketing? people gotta do digital bonuses and random 7"s, I appreciate you sticking to releasing cds first, I can't play vinyl in my car!

Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather have a ten track album that leaves me wanting more plus the opportunity for b-sides to find their way out and stuff than a fourteen or eighteen song record that overstays its welcome.

Stoked. His stuff was my favorite from the Chuck Ragan 4 way split. I've heard a few of these songs before. Are they going to be rerecorded?
