Despite events at the I Heart Music Festival earlier this year -- where Billie Joe became distressed, assured the crowd he was not "Justin Bieber" and smashed his guitar -- I Heart Radio's website are streaming Green Day's new album ¡TRE!.

Goddammit, I was trying to think of their name the other day but couldn't for the life of me remember it. Does/did Heks Orkest ever do any touring? The few songs I heard from them I loved and I love all the previous bands those guys have been in. I was always hoping they would make it out to the midwest at some point. Maybe they did but if it was some basement show, I'm sure I would have never known about it.

Thanks for reminding me and apparently there is a record that I need to order.

They've literally played something like 5 shows ever, and they've all been east coast. 2/5s of the band is in NYC, the other 3/5s are in Richmond. They don't get together very often, unfortunately. I know they've been working on a full-length for the past year-plus, but I imagine with Sparta getting active again, Keeley has been busy with that, so I honestly don't know when they might want to release something next. I'm just honored I got to do their 7-inch.

First off, 39/Smooth sounds like ass, sonically. So that's a strike against it. Secondly, sure, there are some killer songs on that record (primarily "Going To Pasalacqua" and "Don't Leave Me"), but remember, the actual album *doesn't* have "Paper Lanterns," "409 In Your Coffeemaker," the "Knowledge" cover, etc. - those are on the 1000 Hours and Slappy EPs. The album itself, as 39/Smooth, isn't that great.

I like Sabotage a lot too. I just happen to give Vol. 4 the edge because of "Supernaut" and "Cornucopia". Also, Dio Sabbath is definitely worth a listen.

I think "Oh Love" is a fine song. I don't know why everyone dislikes it.

"Kill The DJ" sucks but is nowhere near as awful as "Nightlife." That's legitimately the worst song Green Day has ever written. But the rest of the material on Dos, I think, more than makes up for it. Even "Fuck Time," as dumb as it is, is just that-a dumb, loud rock song. If it were on the Foxboro Hot Tubs record, none of us would care.

Yes, I know. Those first two albums just don't click with me. All the songs on '1,039' blend together in my head, and while 'Kerplunk!' is definitely superior, I tend to remember more songs from '21CB'. I'd rather have a half-decent pop album than a generic punk album. Provided, depending on my mood, 'Kerplunk!' could place right behind 'Nimrod' on that list.

And "21 Guns" is arguably a rip-off of Electric Light Orchestra's "Telephone Line". Doesn't mean it's a bad melody.

Regardless, I can say the same about, say, the title track, "Last of the American Girls", "East Jesus Nowhere", etc...like I said, it's hardly my favorite Green Day album, but there's a lot of catchy singles with more variety in the rhythms, and, even if that doesn't make it good, to me it makes it more memorable than their earliest, strictly pop-punk work.

Gotta give tre more time. For the life of me I can't figure out why people are shitting on these albums so much, given the last two and that direction this band was heading in.

I am totally unapologetic in the fact that green day is my favorite band, may be totally subconcious nostalgia. Dookie was the first cassette tape I ever bought, and was also the first Compact Disc. I HATE Blink 182 with unbridled passion, but I guess I can understand people younger than me feeling the same about them.

However, songs like nice guys finish last, brain stew, minority, and especially that fucking horrendous king for a day make me absolutely want to fucking PUKE! You can also add Nightlife to that list now. "don't be afraid to cum inside" ...(douche chills). Without that blemish, and if tre fires on the right cylinders these things could be a goddamn fucking masterpiece. But haters must hate I suppose.

Okay Tre turns out to be the 'shitty new greed day' part of the trilogy. I do appreciate the three album concept for precicely the fact that they tossed all the arena rock stuff on the last one so I can leave it out. When billie joe said the third one is when the partys over(paraphrasing) he wasn't kidding. All of these songs are about missing someone, walking away from someone/thing, going away, getting old, etc.. and for the most part, very boring. Not only worst of the trilogy, but worst green day record.

I can now say that 97% of these albums have been a huge disappointment. This album sound like they're trying too hard to recapture the Warning era sound while having the lyrical prowess that appeals to 10 year olds. 99 Revolutions is okay. Stray Heart, Nuclear Family and Stay the Night are tunes I also like. Other than a few tracks here and there this stuff is pretty bad. The records are way too over produced. Someone on here said the songs sounded like a bowl of plastic fruit. Great analogy.

Minus the female vocals on "Nightlife", I don't think it's THAT bad... The guitar parts and solo remind me of the Las Vegas grind stuff, just more generic than ever. I honestly think its a much better song than "now that's loud", or "hey that's loud" or whatever... I never way to hear that song ever again! Can't hear tre until I get home, but 99 revolutions sounds dumb and repetitive... Please tell me there are better ones?

Are you talking about Joe's Garage? I like that. I usually skip "Outside Now" and "He Used to Cut the Grass," because they're nearly formless guitar solos with the same introduction, but other than that it's very good.

That, and I also count the 'Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar' trilogy as one. Neither are 100% perfect, but neither have enough filler to be successfully condensed down to a single album.

Also, what about 'Sandinista!'? 'All Things Must Pass'? '69 Love Songs'? It's been a long-ass time since I've listened to any of those, but they're hardly poor records.

Oh, I realized I just missed the point. By "condensed into one album," I thought he meant not releasing the three records separately and instead as one package, rather than cutting out filler so the running time reaches below 80 minutes.

wow, harsh.

nah, I dig a lot of Alk3 but after Infirmary, they sort of just sound like every other pop-punk band ever, so I don't really see how they would sound like Alkaline Trio in particular. I suppose a lot of these chord progressions would have been at home on Good Mourning, but that was a pretty generic album.

I will say, however, that every time I hear 99 revolutions, I keep thinking it's going to suddenly go into Surrender by Cheap Trick. I don't even know why.

Yes, this could have been one really good album rather than three mediocre ones. They undoubtedly aware of this, so the interesting question is why they did it.

In this day and age, only the most diehard fans are buying full albums, but diehard fans also want all the b-sides, which can be a royal pain in the ass to track down, particularly if you are trying to hold the line on the iTunes boycott. So, if one were generous, you could view the decision to release 3 albums of little-killer, lot-filler over one all-killer album as a favor to save the die-hard fans of finding the b-sides.

It also saved them the trouble of having to decide what to put on the album and what to leave out. The band's entire recording history provides ample evidence ("Desensitized", "Espionage", "Lights Out", "Hearts Collide") that the band is truly terrible in making such decisions. No doubt, if they had gone for the one album option, it would have come without the likes of "Nuclear Family" and "Let Yourself Go". So, for one, I'm happy for the three albums.

A lot of the b-sides from Shenanigans came from the Nimrod sessions, and Billie doesn't like those songs much. But I agree, they leave out good songs in an attempt to form a coherent "theme" far too often.

Interesting theory, only, there are unreleased songs from the trilogy. Olivia, Dream Catcher, etc. I personally love the new albums, Dos being my favorite of the three.

First, the phrase in this day and age is such a cliché. Whoever said that in the comments above me, stop.

Secondly, go on Grooveshark and only select the songs you like off the three albums. Or buy the three albums, convert them in MP3 and make a playlist with only the songs you like. Or whatever, there are so many ways you can actually make a good album (or EP) out of this. Then you even get to name your newly created album. How would you name yours? Mine would be "1206 F-words" because that's the number of times Billy Joe uses the word in these three albums.

If I took my top 12 or 13 songs from the Trilogy and put them on one disk, it would be one of my favorite GD albums. The rest would be a long B Side like "Shenanigans." Which I still listen to once in a while.

¡Tre! is undoubtedly the best record of the "trilogy," but just in the sense that it's the only good one. "X-Kid" in particular is a great song, probably the best song GD has done since the American Idiot album.
