Metal outfits Opeth and Katatonia have announced a US tour beginning in mid-April. Both bands are supporting recent releases - Opeth with Heritage in 2011 and Katatonia's Dead End Kings in 2012.

How do you feel about Devin Townsend? After many years of being deeply annoyed by him he's started to really grow on me. I just can't decide whether his stuff has real merit, or if I'm easily tricked into liking bizarre outsider art. At the very least, we know what it sounds like when you give a virtuoso with chronic bipolar disorder unlimited creative control and gobs of money and free time.
Potentially using this as my wedding waltz. High hopes.
For the record, Epicloud was my 2nd favourite metal release of '12, just behind Ne Obliviscaris. Now that album, phwoar, that's prog metal Opeth would be proud of.
I've only listened to a bit of the Devin Townsend Project, and it's mostly hit and miss. I liked 'Ghost' but didn't care for 'Epicloud' or 'Deconstruction'. I'm not familiar with his wider body of work.
I've been meaning to check out The Devin Townsend Project for a long time now. I have a couple friends that love it and I've been meaning to check him out every time he comes to town but somehow I keep missing him. I haven't heard any of their recorded output yet.
I will say that I fucking LOVE Strapping Young Lad though. Their first album helped me get into a lot more heavy stuff than I was used to and City gets regular play from me. I love that album. I can totally understand why people would be put off or annoyed by him though. I went to see them in Seattle and live, he totally annoyed me. The good news? It was my first time seeing/hearing Napalm Death and needless to say, it was awesome.
He can be annoying and absurd, for sure, but I appreciate the humor considering how serious the metal scene can take themselves sometimes.
Mikael Åkerfeldt's 'Storm Corrosion' collaboration with Steven Wilson was phenomenal, though I seem to be in the minority. I'd rather see the two of them take their show out on the road than Opeth, to be honest.
ha ill be about 30 minutes from agoura hills that weekend.. i think ill go to that.. hopefully more heavy songs live.. teh heritage songs sounded better live.. but the album sucked..
