They actually have better ballad type songs. If you're interested I'd say just check out their albums chronologically. The new albums are decent but there's some seriously fun quirky sci-fi pop-punk/metal-ish stuff on their first couple albums.

I don't know if the new bassist is a permanent replacement but he's pretty boring. Mic Todd, for all his personal problems, was a fantastic player and had a wonderful stage presence. This guy looks like he should be in the Postal Service or some other drivel. Glad Josh is back in the band as, in my opinion, he made the early records much more interesting with his style...
