Yes but they signed to a major after like 4 shows. Their debut was on Ferret but they were already signed to a major at that point.

According to Wikipedia, they signed to Island/Def-Jam after only 12 shows.

Yes, this is exactly accurate, which is why I was asking if it was a joke. They've been a major label band since the very very beginning.

I have their first album and it's on White Drugs, a label they formed themselves. From what I remember, they felt they weren't ready for a major at that point.

HAHAHAHA to someone complaining about this in 2013. How long before they tour with Katy Perry? How long until they start wearing suits? A major label will restrict their creativity, like say they wanted to side-bar into mexican mariachi for a few albums, a major label would never....oh wait.

More importantly, a major label will take almost all of the money that should go to the band, and use it instead to line its own metaphorical pockets.

I would imagine that The Bronx are getting much more FROM the label than they are giving back to it. They can't even fill the House of Blues or Metro here. They usually play the Double Door, Reggie's, or even SubT. I can't imagine that they sell a shit ton of records either. They get a ton from the label (Distro., etc.) and I would assume the label barely makes any money off this band.

A whole lot of assumin' goin' on here. I could totally be wrong. A kick ass band either way.

They were allowed to release their first material on their own but they were already signed. It was a strange arrangement.

White Drugs was an imprint they were granted in their deal with Island. I think all of their releases have their logo, much like Reznor's said "nothing" and Interscope. They signed to Island, Island then went and found an indie to release their first record to help "develop" the band. The record is on Ferret. All the money came from Island. Second was on Island proper. Then I think 3 is actually "self released." I'd really need to look, but yeah, this band is famous for having signed after being a band about a month.

Should also be noted, this is the exact same arrangement Fall out Boy had with Island, who brought it to Fueled By Ramen to "develop." Capital had paid FBR to release music by Jimmy Eat World and Yellowcard to help develop the bands or, depending how you look at it, "build street cred," esp in the case of Yellowcard. There are other bands who were signed to majors, had indies release the first records, and then were never actually brought back up. I'm pretty sure Island did this quite often.

You shouldn't give up on them. They're one of my favorite "rockin'" live bands to see right now. They put on such a fun show. I, personally, love all of their albums but if you don't want to check any of that out, you should at least catch them live next time they roll through your neck of the woods. I can almost guarantee that you'll change your tuuuune. If not, I'll buy you a beer next time you find yourself in Chicago.

Honestly, I've never seen them live, so maybe I should give them another chance. If they're ever in Madison for relatively cheap, I'll put aside my distaste for the music industry long enough to check em out.

If Every Time I Die gets a pass than The Bronx should DEFINITELY get a pass.

Fuck majors but a good band is a good band. I don't think you'd be disappointed seeing them live.

I also thought you were joking, as they were on a major immediately, but haven't been for quite a while now. I've been a fan of this band since I, and this record is fantastic, could end up being my favorite since I. It's worth listening to.

ATO is, more or less, a major. I forget who the actual owner is (may be their management) but pretty sure it's in one of the major families.

I think it's within the RCA/Sony family and it was founded by Dave Fucking Matthews (ugh).

I was wondering why Mariachi played that Dave Matthews fest awhile back.

If any of you had been playing in bands for years, worked a shitty job, had no college education or rich fucking parents, you'd sign to a major just as fast as they did. Being picky about what you listen to, based on what label it comes out on is fucking retarded. I don't care if you're against corporations. Most of the Indie Labels you people go so apeshit for are ran like Major labels anyway. So, what's the fucking difference?

Exactly. If you like it then what's it fucking matter? It's not as if bands aren't capable of being on a major label but still being a great band that has artistic merit. Maybe a majority of major label bands are absolute garbage but that doesn't mean it's impossible for good ones to exist. Really just makes one look like an elitist asshole who is more concerned about their own cred than their own enjoyment.

I mean, it's not like it's totally clean like on El Bronx, but.. I get what you mean. His vocal tone just sounds different, and I don't think it's necessarily for the better.

I like this a lot though. Never got psyched on The Bronx (III) but this has a little more pull. Still can't imagine them topping (II) any time soon though.

also, in the right setting they really are one of the most intense / thrilling live acts you can witness
