Videos: Suicidal Tendencies: “Cyco Style”

Long running crossover band Suicidal Tendencies have released the first video from their upcoming full-length 13 for "Cyco Style." The album is due out today.

I think if somebody ever told me that Suicidal Tendencies were their favorite band, I would have no choice but to stare at them, speechless, like I had just seen some rare/exotic animal for the first time.

Good thing they never have to actually tell you.
I've seen Suicidal fans everywhere I've ever been, essentially. I could make a top list of unexpected places I've encountered cycos.

I think the fact that you can spot them a mile away without even getting anywhere near them is why they're so easy to remember. It's not like I'm going to forget seeing a few in Iceland's swankiest gay bar or seeing their fan-base boo off Slayer in a very funny turn on events.

Just last week, I walked past a barber shop only to see cycos occupying every single chair.

Really? Is that a regional thing or something, because I can't remember seeing any ST gear in at least a decade. I don't really have any active dislike for them, they just get a "meh" from me. I've seen them twice (once was actually my first concert) and to be honest, I don't remember a single second of it.

Punk-wise, over the course of the music fan portion of my life, the standby has been Bad Religion, though there are many bands I have listened to more in recent years (currently really listening to the Menzingers non-stop). Frank Zappa is right up at the top as well though.

The opposite to regional. When I said everywhere - I mean everywhere. 90% of the countries I've been in. It's ridiculously spread out. Not even kidding when I'm saying I've seen koalas in ST baby onesies. I'd say they have a more rabid fanbase than someone like Iron Maiden, because they stick together a lot more due to ST obviously being a smaller band. People curate their life around Suicidal.

Imagine yourself being a bit more into metal then you are and you'd be "meh"ing Bad Religion right now, while saying you're stoked about a new ST record.

I've seen ST graffiti in barns in the middle of nowhere in Poland. It's definitely an off-line thing and that's the reason why I like them.

No kidding. You learn something everyday. I knew they USED to have a strong fanbase, but had no idea it still existed. What next, you gonna tell me that Crash Test Dummies still have a huge cult following ;) Look at that, we can be civil to each other sometimes.

I've always believed them to be much bigger abroad than here in the U.S., especially in the last 20 years or so. It seems like they barely tour the U.S. anymore but still make sure to hit Europe, South America, and Australia (and probably California still). Years ago, I remember stumbling on to some fan pages and there were people commenting from all over the globe. It's kind of cool, actually.

They're by far the most common in the states, still. You'd think it'd be a South American thing, but I guess they've either picked Morrisey or Madball already.

In fact, I recently bought a house in Seattle and I've encountered three cycos on the neighborhood already. All different ages and very different people.

They still tour the US, it's just not on the radar if you get all your news from the internet. They're completely off-line and I've got a lot of love for that.

Remember when we were sitting around listening to tapes with our friends? They still do that.

I went to a dive bar by my house last year and I saw a ton of cycos leaving the show that just ended. I was kind of bummed that I missed it but for whatever reason, seeing all those folks put a big grin on my face.

Suicidal has put on some of my favorite shows and I always make sure to see when and where they're playing but in my 20 years of going to shows, I've seen them only 3 times and one of those I had to drive 6 hours to see them at a Warped Tour.

I don't know why but seeing Frank Zappa and Bad Religion as someones two favorite bands got a chuckle from me. Two very different things.

Don't get me wrong, I have much respect for Bad Religion and I LOVE Frank Zappa.

Though I should say that I'm much more forgiving of them than I am of most the bands I listen to for whatever reason. Nostalgia maybe. They played a pretty big part of my upbringing, music-wise and just their whole philosophy.

That said, this song and video was cringe-inducing for me. I would imagine that I'll still pick up the new album and see them when they come through town though.

Seriously though, ICP never released anything near as good as what Suicidal released in their prime. I know why you said it but ICP doesn't even deserve to be in the same sentence as ST (except for when they're umm...er....touring...ahem...together.........goddammit, you win.)

Whatever, I've never heard anything by ICP except for that magnets song. I still stand by my ignorant statement.

First album is somewhat a punk/ hardcore classic in my opinion. Also one of the first cassettes along with BF's In My Head I ever bought. This is tough to get into. At least it's not rap.
