The Slow Death/ The Brokedowns; Bruce Springsteen; Eternal Sleep

Ohhhh yeah! This is John G back in tha house and this week we are starting three reviews per day. We'll see how that goes. Plus, next week, we've got something pretty special planned. Here's what's on tap for today:

First, staff writer Matt B checked out the new The Slow Death/The Brokedowns split:

Who didn't see this one coming? It was only a matter of time before two of the Midwest's more prolific punk outfits released a split together.

Then, editor Joe Pelone wrote about the new album by the Boss called High Hopes. He wasn't blown away:

By not calling it a new full-length, Springseen implies that High Hopes is intended for diehards and not casual fans. But few diehards will look at these overproduced recordings of live staples as definitive versions.

Lastly, yours truly continues his exploration of modern, underground hardcore with Eternal Sleep's Dead Like Me:

The music here is firmly rooted in modern hardcore, with influences drawn from bands like Converge. But, while so many bands do follow in those tracks, Eternal Sleep realize that they've got a great number of peers. So, to keep things interesting, across this four song release, the band abandons traditional song structure echoing the shifting style of grindcore.
