Rise Against switches guitarists

Rise Against has announced that guitarist Todd has left the band due to creative differences. Replacing him will be Chris Chasse, formerly of Reach The Sky. The band is still working on their Dreamworks debut up in Canada with GGGarth Richardson, currently titled Siren Song Of The Counter-Culture. They'll be re-entering US soil next week to play a show with Guttermouth and Authority Zero in San Diego.

That's 'cause AFI suck, and Rise Against don't. Although "Sing..." was pretty good in the end, very reminiscent of Refused (at least to me). This sounds really bad, for some reason. I'm still getting the new album, though. Seen 'em 2x, both awesome. Though I broke my eyeglasses the second time on the floor, eh.

I dont know about that, I listend to AFI for years, back when Very Proud of Ya First came up, and I dont consider them moving to Dreamworks to be selling out at all. It was just a more creative approach to the same formula that they have been using in their previous records. Some people need to stop classifying bands and sticking them in one and only one style of music, and when they change it a little bit they are automatically 'sellouts,' (a la AFI). Or if they do keep repeating the same style they are boring (Pennywise). A lot of people need to get their heads out of their asses and appreciate music for what it is.

RIP 88FL. You're absolutely right...none of them get along with people. -88FL went through three or four drummers -Their guitarist joined Rise Against and couldn't get along -Their singer started two other bands and quit on both -Joe seems to be doing fine in Rise Against -One of their drummers left Alkaline Trio

Dreamworks was purchased by Universal. It's at most an imprint of UMG now, at least it's being dissolved into Interscope or Geffen (I dont remember which) adam

He played from like summer 2001, to summer 2002. He was a good guy. I was at a party a few months ago, and he was there, though I didn't bother to talking to him at all, since I'm not a stalker of musicians. He recorded "Obstructed View" with Rise Against (from the Your Scene Sucks comp on Go Kart Records), and I believe that's all.

Although I don't follow your stencil of making fun of emo "and all that shit," I would say it's the other way around if anything. Rise Against is a lot harder in some spots and way more technical when they want to be. Although, I love both bands (Strike Anywhere considerably more) and neither are inches within any defintion of emo.

those of you who think rise against is going to lose something with todd leaving obviously have no idea whatsup. Joe and Tim write everything. Todd (and Mr. Precision) were good guitarists but aren't really responsible for any of the music when it comes down to it. No idea what this new guy is gonna be like but I doubt it will make much of a difference, unless he can sing (the one thing rise against is lacking.. a good backup vocalist).

I just got done reading Rise Against's bio on their site, and to be honest it pissed me off. It said that the band was formed by Joe and Tim. I always thought that the band was started by Joe and Mr. Precision. whatever.

i should have been more clear. when rise against was formed, joe had written all of the music for the unraveling already. tim joined with most of the music having been completed. dan never wrote anything. thats why it was called joes band. cuz he wrote everything for the unraveling aka when the band started. tim and joe now write the music together. rpm and the new one is both of their writing. tim has writeen all of the lyrics for every album.

I like Rise Against a lot, but I haven't listened to them nearly as much as similar bands (Strike Anywhere, Good Riddance). Since they could obviously be better (in my opinion, obviously) this could be a good change rather than a bad one, but I'm with the consensus on fearing a watered-down sound for their new album.

Definitely my favorite band.,.put on one of the wickedest live shows, (even make fun of emo "cryfest" bands....nice)....i hope as well as all of u Rise Against fans that their music won't suffer due to this change The fact that they got signed to Dreamworks got a lot of ppl's backs up...but i mean, i have faith in them...i HAVE to....cuz if they end up putting out some pussy music, and having all the fears in a lot of the fans come true, and sell out, then that will just be the end of an absolutely incredible band. And like one Annonnymous commenter said, Todd didnt have any creative difference BEFORE they signed to Dreamworks, and compltely ROCKED, so what else has changed other than signing to a big label? i mean, maybe there is more to the story than us little unknowing fans know, but it just seems to be an obvious equation to me: Band does amazing work on small labe

uhhhh, i don't think rise against will change much at all. they've pretty much stayed the same between the unraveling and revolutions per minute. they switched guitarists from mr. precison(kevin) to todd mahoney and that cd was just as original and pure rise against as the last. stop your bitching, rise against owns no matter what happens.
