Rise Against has announced that guitarist Todd has left the band due to creative differences. Replacing him will be Chris Chasse, formerly of Reach The Sky. The band is still working on their Dreamworks debut up in Canada with GGGarth Richardson, currently titled Siren Song Of The Counter-Culture. They'll be re-entering US soil next week to play a show with Guttermouth and Authority Zero in San Diego.

uh oh, this can't be good... "due to creative differences"... he didn't have a problem with their creativity before when they rocked. I'm not saying their new album is deffinetely gonna sound different, but could this spell bad news for Rise Against?
Someone (April 28, 2004)
Do u guys realize that Tim and Joe wrote everything on RPM as well as this new record. Did it ever occur to you that Todd wasn't happy playing punk anymore? sheesh. these things happen, people change. 2+ Replies

i dont really understand why a political band like this can justify a jump to a major label. it just seems like the things they sing about dont go along with what major labels do, put out shitty music for the masses just to make money. maybe someone can explain it to me...? 5+ Replies
Someone (April 28, 2004)
aka the label is pushing them to probably be a pop punk band. i dont blame him. 2+ Replies

i can't see rise against selling the required number of records on dreamworks not to get dropped.
Someone (April 28, 2004)
What the fuck? If you like this band then have a little faith in them. jesus

Wow, if you search through the archives at punknews. The news of Dan getting kicked out/leaving, only had 7 replies. Also it said Dan's replacement was Kevin White. What happened to that guy? 1+ Reply

Tim rocks on guitar live on about half the songs these days anyway (or that's how it was when I saw 'em). Why not just go to it full-time, if nobody is up to the band's standards?
Someone (April 28, 2004)
heres where i know the truth about you all. You guys make fun of emo and all that shit. However you say that Rise against is an amazing band. Rise Against is a pussy emo version of STrike Anywhere. If you all want to stop being pussys listen to strike anywhere 4+ Replies

this is so depressing. I don't think Rise Against will be the same. I guess we'll all find out either at warped or in fall when their album comes out. :(( 1+ Reply

those of you who think rise against is going to lose something with todd leaving obviously have no idea whatsup. Joe and Tim write everything. Todd (and Mr. Precision) were good guitarists but aren't really responsible for any of the music when it comes down to it. No idea what this new guy is gonna be like but I doubt it will make much of a difference, unless he can sing (the one thing rise against is lacking.. a good backup vocalist). 4+ Replies

The biggest problem with this is the guy left for creative differences. It doesen't sound good to me if he didn't like the direction they are heading. Oh well. Who cares. Most people that post here have already written these guys off. I'll wait and see.

What does this mean for Tim and Todds other band The Killing Tree ??????????????????????? 3+ Replies

I just got done reading Rise Against's bio on their site, and to be honest it pissed me off. It said that the band was formed by Joe and Tim. I always thought that the band was started by Joe and Mr. Precision. whatever. 2+ Replies

I like Rise Against a lot, but I haven't listened to them nearly as much as similar bands (Strike Anywhere, Good Riddance). Since they could obviously be better (in my opinion, obviously) this could be a good change rather than a bad one, but I'm with the consensus on fearing a watered-down sound for their new album.
RsOmBiItNh (April 29, 2004)
Definitely my favorite band.,.put on one of the wickedest live shows, (even make fun of emo "cryfest" bands....nice)....i hope as well as all of u Rise Against fans that their music won't suffer due to this change
The fact that they got signed to Dreamworks got a lot of ppl's backs up...but i mean, i have faith in them...i HAVE to....cuz if they end up putting out some pussy music, and having all the fears in a lot of the fans come true, and sell out, then that will just be the end of an absolutely incredible band.
And like one Annonnymous commenter said, Todd didnt have any creative difference BEFORE they signed to Dreamworks, and compltely ROCKED, so what else has changed other than signing to a big label? i mean, maybe there is more to the story than us little unknowing fans know, but it just seems to be an obvious equation to me:
Band does amazing work on small labe show rest of comment 1+ Reply

PS-->whoever the hell said Rise Against is a pussy emo version of Strike Anywhere, is retarded....LISTEN to the LYRICS..that is not EMO..... (and by the way, Strike ANywhere is one of the best punk bands out there right now...keepig punk alive....Chnage is a SOund is one of the best punk albums in my opinion.....so i DO know the band, i have my fact straight, now you get yours please
NikoBart (April 30, 2004)
The only one thing I hope is "due to creative differences" doesn't mean Dreamwroks try to slow the band down. Whatever, I'll really miss Todd. 1+ Reply

i think its great that there are some new changes but the question is will the "old" rise against sound the same as they did before?hmmmmm i wonder signed hardcorechick
Someone (May 29, 2004)
uhhhh, i don't think rise against will change much at all. they've pretty much stayed the same between the unraveling and revolutions per minute. they switched guitarists from mr. precison(kevin) to todd mahoney and that cd was just as original and pure rise against as the last. stop your bitching, rise against owns no matter what happens. 1+ Reply
