by Barsuk

As reported here earlier this month, Barsuk Records would be releasing Future Soundtrack For America, a compilation assembled by They Might Be Giants frontman John Flansburgh to raise money for MoveOn.org, Music For America, and Common Assets. Along with previously announced contributions from Elliott Smith, Blink-182, Death Cab For Cutie, Bright Eyes and more, the CD will also contain exclusive songs from Nada Surf, Jimmy Eat World, Ben Kweller, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Sleater-Kinney, and others. Future Soundtrack For America will be in stores August 10th.

McSweeney's Publishing will also be releasing a book entitled The Future Dictionary Of America around the same time as the CD's release; the book will contain contributions from over 200 writers including Kurt Vonnegut, Paul Auster, Joyce Carol Oates, Wendy Wasserstein, and more. Future Soundtrack For America will be included inside every copy of The Future Dictionary Of America. 100% of the proceeds from the book and CD projects will go to the previously named charities, as well as The Sierra Club and others.
