On July 31st, members of Sworn Enemy and Walls of Jericho who were scheduled to perform at Lyons Group Club Axis in Boston were told that they could not take the stage wearing Boston Beatdown t-shirts. They were ordered to remove it under penalty of being ejected from the club. Furthermore, they were told that any references made to Boston Beatdown, or local performing artists Blood For Blood and Death Before Dishonor would result in the show being terminated.
During this time, a member of Walls of Jericho's touring crew was told by a uniformed police officer that if he did not remove his Boston Beatdown t-shirt or turn it inside-out, he would be ejected from the club and arrested. We attempted to get clarification on this incident. We contacted the Lyons Group and they denied there presence at that event. Lyons Group told us to contact Clear Channel. We did and were told by Clear Channel to contact Lyons Group for more information. Neither group offered any information regarding details of the incident. We want to thank all the bands and labels that have continued to show their support for us. Free Speech is very important, and I think we deserve an explanation when these rights are taken away. Visit us at Crosscheck Records if you want a further scoop or have any questions. This is one of many incidents. Crosscheck Records (260 comments)

Good. Boston Beatdown is continuing unnecessary violence in hardcore, and it's making a joke of the entire hardcore scene, including Boston's. It's basically a wank fest for everyone involved to show off. 2+ Replies

On one hand, it's dumb that PC restrictions have been taken to such extremes, on the other I'm pretty sure that Boston Beatdown promotes intolerant, violent behavior. Covert racism for Boston fuckholes, not at ALL what the scene is about. But the club is still assholes. -BSD 2+ Replies

At shows like hellfest the big muscle men run into the sides of the pit and punch kids to look tough. Its not about the music at all. this boston beatdown society or gang or whatever you wanna call it is the most retarded and most pathetic thing i've ever heard in my life. the hardcore or punk scene to my knowledge was never about standing up for yourself or enforcing your beliefs by using violence. sure if 10 nazi skins are beating up my friend, i gotta throw down but it sounds like you could accidentally bump into one of these guys on the street, not say sorry, and get beat down. these meatheads really need to listen to some 7 seconds and chill the fuck out. 1+ Reply

yeah Boston Beatdown and FSU is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. They might say that there are a few bad apples or whatever but if they knew about it they would do something about it. Hardcore isn't about how good someone 2steps or throwsdown too. Its about the music. I congrats you on your fucking backflips and your cool spinkicks but actually listen to the words and watch what the band members are doing. People didnt come to watch you dance or wait for a fight to happen. People actually go for the band. At hellfest I saw the FSU crew and they were a bunch of skinny ghetto kids wearing 5x white t-shirts jumping into the crowd and randomly hitting people. Someone who would retalliate then had to go against 10 guys. I am ashamed and I look down on anybody who acts like this. Good. Boston Beatdown is ridiculous. I don't see why anyone would think this is what hardcore should be about. I mean, doing the "angry white boy" during the breakdown is one thing, but all this violence has to stop, or it won't just be Boston who starts getting their shows fucked up.

I'm glad everyone pretty much agrees that the tough guy bullshit in any scene, especially Boston's is out of hand and simply ridiculous. One of the reasons I personally bailed out of Hellfest at the last minute was because I heard a large Boston hardcore population was visiting for the festival and planning on causing trouble and seeing I planned on going solo getting punched in the face randomly by some guy that has about 7 of his "crew" backing him up for standing and watching a band play punk/hardcore music doesn't seem like my idea of fun. I was at the Fear Factory show at Axis. Walls of Jericho and Sworn Enemy both gave shout outs to FSU, and the show wasn't terminated. There was at least two kids on in the pit wearing Boston Beatdown shirts, and could've sworn some in Wall of Jericho was wearing a BBD shirt during their set.
I don't care what FSU does, or what BBD is about. The hardcore scene at Boston is what it is; in the pit, or around the pit you are going to get hit by kicks, punches and flying bodies. Be prepared or stay away. And every show I've been to on Lansdowne St, always has bouncers inside the pit, making sure we play nicely with each other.
There were no problems on Lansdowne St, and all the other venues in Boston and Cambridge that book hardcore shows until Boston Beatdown Volume II was nationally released by Cross Check Records. And it's such a coincidence that FSU Nat show rest of comment 2+ Replies

none of you guys are from boston seriously.
You have this mental image that Boston has FSU running amuck beating on defenseless Finch fans.
Anybody that lives here knows, the FSU guys are all nice guys. Just the name itself keeps trouble from happening. Jeremy of Diecast finally convinced the Karma Club of Lansdown St to let him put on Sunday Matinee hardcore shows. The first few shows all the wanna-be kids got out fo hand and underage drinking almost ruined it. So then Karma gave them one last shot, but instead of hiring bouners, they had a half a dozen FSU kids bounce. Not a single problem since. And FSU didnt beat up one kid or anyone at these shows.
Its not FSU thats bad, the wanna-be's that are the trouble makers. you get kids form the suburbs in or just out of high school, who take three letters and start a crew and think they gotta be tough and mak show rest of comment 5+ Replies

First of all, anyone that thinks Blood for Blood is sexist needs to read up on the concept of metaphor. If that's what your analysis of their music is then you shouldn't be entitled to an opinion. "Bitch Called Hope" is a metaphor. "So Common So Cheap" is not about women; it is about a very specific woman. To be sexist then they would have to be generalizing and directing their opinions at the entire sex. Its an angry song about a person. There are many songs out there that are angry and directed at a person. This band just pulls no punches and doesn't fluff up their songs to be on MTV. Please retort with your evidence of them being truly sexist.
As for Boston Beatdown, you are looking at this all wrong. This is simply a documentary letting you in on a perspective that exists in a small corner of the scene in Boston. No one is trying to recruit you so yo show rest of comment 3+ Replies
