The Jai-Alai Savant are a "Chicago-by-way-of-Philly" trio active since 2002. The band features guitarist / vocalist Ralph Darden, drummer Jeremy Gewertz and bassist Nash Snyder. Darden's DJ alter-ego Major Taylor is often credited with "beats, dubs & concepts." Darden long served in Philadelphia dub / punk / reggae act Franklin ("Major Taylor" being one of their signature songs). The Jai-Alai Savant follows in Franklin's footsteps, playing a groove-oriented reggae-inspired post-punk inspired by everyone from the Clash to the Police, to Trenchmouth to Fugazi.
