On August 10, it was once again time for every New York punk's pilgrimage to the Woodside train station, where busses were waiting to bring us to Randall's Island, site of the Warped Tour. With the sheer number of big-name punk bands playing this year, the crowd was as large as ever. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
yeah i woulnt say its the best concert ive ben to but it was good and for all you peoples who said punk rock is dead your dum dums YOU'RE ALL FUCKING INSANE!!!!! i love the Descendents. All was ok but they should have called it quits years ago. seriously, it's been tired and generic for years now. ALL is generic? No, ALL (and the Descendents) helped create the pop-punk sound. If you play a style you created, it's not generic. "PUNK IS DEAD >>I think I'll just listen to my Sex Pistols records instead. There's more talent in one song on that record than there is of any band performing at the Warped Tour I think I'll just listen to my Sex Pistols records instead. There's more talent in one song on that record than there is of any band performing at the Warped Tour. All you hardcore bastards, give me a break. Stay at home and listen to the Sex Pistols record you bought back in 1979 or some shit like that. The Warped Tour is not hardcore, get over it (although the teenyboppers are kind of annoying). By far the worst Warped Tour I've ever seen.Where do I begin.Hmm,let's see! im having a problem with kids just going to warped tour and paying no attention to the small local shows happening everyday, time and time again i go to "big" shows and see loads of people there and then go to local shows and theres 8 maybe its different in other places besides utah, but i think its pretty fucking sad that no kid in utah that ive talked to has heard of the used (have played in and around SLC for about a year and half) until a month ago, and that my friend, i believe is the downfall of "the scene" pat i like ur brother Oh well...thank good im an european.... Lagwagon, randy, Mighty migthy, All, Mad Caddies and others that i don't remember went here in my country portugal, to preformance at warped tour.... Yea me and my brother. This a problem with you Mike? I mean HandsDown313. If any of my friends actually enjoyed punk I would definitley go with them. -pat41 I went today to the Warped in Boston and it was fuckin great. I was a bit disappointed with Good Charlotte.. actually.. really disappointed. I didnt stay for New Found Glory, but my friends did i'll hafta see what they thought... Flogging Molly and MXPX were easily the best bands of the day... and From Autumn to Ashes was awesome except for the fact the drive thru bitches drowned them out.. but hell whatever. PAT41, u and ur brother huh? cool kid... didnt one of those guys in NFG leave Shai Hulud for NFG? what a sellout. punk is trendy now. sucks that the nu-metal curse is now upon all of your bands. enjoy! uhhh, wrong thread man. go to the revelation review. Yeah, 7 seconds were a good band, but Start Today owns anything they've ever done. To THAT_GUY down there who said people shouldnt complain about the heat. There is a BIG difference between Texas heat and New England heat during the Summer. Last year I went to Warped and it was 95 degrees out but with humidity I think it was up in the 100's somewhere. It was ridiculous. This year is supposed to be even hotter. And you know what a bottle of water costs $2.50... and then they run out of ice so you are drinking 95 degree water. I couldnt even feel the water in my mouth because the 2 temperature were so close. But I have never complained, in fact I have always wanted it to be hotter. I want there to be no clouds in the sky and 100 degrees so that all the wimps will not come and leave room for me and my brother to actually have fun. I hate it when people complain about heat too but dont call them wimps for it. Id rather be hot than freezing like in the winter. WARPED IS TOMORROW FOR ME! woo hoo!-pat41 did you say "awesomely?" Yeah. During Nofx I saw the biggest mixes of age. I saw at least thirty kids that were 12 or under (some looked like they were 9). Some were in their thirties. The majority were 13 - 20s. I think fat mike would be joking about the punk is for adults thing, cause well it's not. Not to mention more than half his fans are not adults. why is punk only for adults, Im 16 and i have been listen to it since i was 13. I DONT fucking listen to poppy shit, I work my ass of at my job, just like you, I goto shows just like you, I buy CDs just like you, I dont go to Hot Topic Unlike you (Mailorder rules). you're also fucking dumb for complaining about the dust. what the fuck did you think was going to happen? anti-flag all work for the govt., if you don't know that you're pretty fucking stupid. the best was when NOFX said "IF YOU'RE 18 OR OVER GO REGISTER GREEN PARTY AND VOTE DEMOCRATIC SO WE CAN GET THIS FUCKER OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE 'CAUSE OUR COUNTRY FUCKING SUCKS NOW. AND IF YOU'RE NOT 18, IF YOU'RE LIKE 15, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING AT A PUNK SHOW? PUNK ROCK IS FOR ADULTS." nofx doesn't give a shit what you think fucker, damn man..you're into allister? you casually enjoy bad religion? you have no fucking idea what punk rock is. you should be killed along with the thousands like you who think they're emotional and depressed because they listen to dashboard confessiona. I like the Gorge but there's too much damn walking involved. It's like 10 minutesd from the main stage to some of the other stages... Makes it hard to see all the bands I wanted to see. I was fucking pissed, I missed BigWig i was at that show, the dust was terrible. is it true that that drummer for blink 182 drummed for the casualties? LOL i agree with the guy way the hell down there. the gorge fucking rocked this year. it was great. except, when i shit my pants. that sucked. I got into a bit of a scuffle at a warped, but then I realized the guys wearing black leather from head to toe, and its 98 degrees with the sun beating down, and I sort of understand why hes so angry, anybody that fucking stupid has got to have issues with dealing with his obsession with image over function. did anyone else notice a whole bunch of ice cubes or something like that being hurled at nfg, i couldnt tell exactly, i mean i saw all the water bottles being thrown at them, but it looked like before that a whole bunch of ice cubes were being thrown from the side or something, i dont know maybe its just me....p.s. yes flogging molly seemed in my opinon to have the best set of the day, they just seemed to have tho most fun in a genuine way, while it seems like other bands try to force it hey i'm going on Sunday in detroit. Can you bring outside food/water/backpacks in??? and what time does the show end? yeah, apparently flogging molly didn't play The best band at NYC Warped was SWORN ENEMY. They tore shit up especially when they played IDS. I went to the Asbury Park show on the 11th, and it wasn't that good. The Bosstones, Flogging Molly, and Bad Religion were the best acts. I can't stand talking to friends from my town after the show. If I ask who they saw, I get answers like Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Something Comporate, The Starting Line, etc. I hate my town. Flogging Molly was easily the best act there, shame on you for missing them. They never cease to amaze me and the pit was more intense for them than any other band, you literally couldn't see a thing from the massive dust cloud (four days later, I'm still coughing up dirt). Rx Bandits also, as always, put on a great show, and Five Iron Frenzy surprised me with an excellent performance as well. The Bosstones also rocked, and Bad Religion did an amazing job with their set. NOFX was indeed disappointing...they just couldn't get the crowd going. I should have gone and seen the Planet Smashers instead. All in all a good review, but you should definitely check out Flogging Molly, they were the highlight of the day for just about anyone who saw them. -ctmaro Yeah, I agree with that guy below me. The Deviants were awesome, so much so that I purchased a CD even though I can get them for free. I had never heard of them before, but they were great even though only 20 people were in the crowd to see them. I'm a bit disappointed in the CD though, live they were so intense, but the album was kinda weak. Warped Tour was awesome! It has been awhile since I've gone to a really good show. Man, Bosstones and Flogging Molly rocked the most, by far. Flogging Molly was really fuckin insane. Guttermouth was pretty good, as was mxpx, reel big fish, finch and even Ozma. Bad Religion was alright, same with Alkaline Trio. I left in the middle of NFG - I don't even know why I stayed that long. NOFX came after them so I missed them too, but after talking to some people about their show, it seems I made the right decision. The only thing that sucked was the fact that The Used went on like 11:45. With the NYC traffic, I'm sure most people missed their set, just as i did. Thats a shame because I heard they rock live and I have never seen them. I also missed Thursday because of the traffic, but I've seen them a whole bunch of times already, so that was okay. "30 CDs for around $30"? To that guy who said - it was 90 degrees,oh my GOD,I was gonna DIE !! HAHA,what a fucking PUSSY !!I live in Texas,in the Summer, that's a GOOD day. When I went and saw LTJ last month, that was the only show,I have EVER complained about heat, and you can ask ANYONE from Houston who went,it was probably 110-120 degrees, literally, even their singer had to take a break.I'll admit though, our Warped was inside, but that's only cause the outside stages were rained out.But no more fucking whining about heat, unless you live in the South, and even then,SHUT THE FUCK UP AND GET USED TO IT !!!oh,and Warped seemed to suck to me this year, except for the dirt-cheap prices on merch(compared to stores and such-I got about 30 CDs for around $30)and the chance to have a place where bands interact with the crowd more than usual.(I met guys and girls from Never Heard of it,MxPx,Casualties,Something Cororate,Trust Company,3rd Strike,Eyeliners,Thursday, and a couple of others)To me,Warped seems more like a big "punk" flea market, with a background concert, than a concert with merch booths, anyone else get this idea ? When you talk about the best performances and bands on this years bill, how can you forget the deviates. They put on the best show in my opinion. They had the most energy and passion and to top it off they were on the small stage. aaa played pretty well- but dont have much prescence on stage. i saw the river ciry rebels at nyc warped last year and they rock out. alright people- when reveiwing warped tour i think it's really lame when you tell us all the lousy bands you saw. for anyone who missed this warped- there were great performances by non popcrap bands as follows: out of all of the warped reviews, nobody mentioned AAA. i'm curious to hear how their live show is. same goes for the casualties and unseen. Elliot you did an amazing job reviewing this event. It was so beautiful. In DC the dust was really bad, especially during NFG's set, but otherwise it kicked ass. Best band I saw was probably The Used or Allister. woops i thought it was great. this was my first warped tour, and i had a lot of fun. Flogging Molly was probably the best. Bad Religion was great, Nofx was good, No Use was good, Alkaline Trio was good, hell even Something Corporate was alright, and i can't stand that band on album. I walked out on Good Charlotte, and wanted to walk out on New Found Glory (i don't like either of them, some of my friends i went with do, however). I swear to god, i've never seen so many fucking flying waterbottles in my life. And the crowd surfers at NFG were annoying too. i got kicked in the head a few times. god, i hate crowd surfers. one good point about this show was the free water. for most of the day there was a water truck that just gave out water for free. Towards the end it ran out, though. oh well. i had fun. MXPX, NOFX and New Found Glory all played after Bad Religion? You guys got screwed... "there are probably more kids from Long Island at Warped than from NYC or Jersey" The dirt...the unholy dirt!!! Dust boogers man! Anyway, it was my first time going on the Warped and it was good, but not great. To be out there at 90 degrees with a bottle of Pepsi cost 3 bucks. They are trying to kill kids. Thursday's set was good, Reel Big Fish stirred up the crowd, and Bad Religion had a great set. On other stages, Five Iron Frenzy had kids going, Prevent Falls played a real good set (too bad ppl didn't notice them), Sky(came)falling had ppl's attention, Rx Bandits made ppl dance, while Quarashi made ppl flip the bird more than moshing. From Autumns To Ashes had the best set with raw energy leaking from their ears. Back on the main stage, Lagwagon was goofy off as one would expect, NFG had kids singing, Flogging Molly represented the Irish kids, and NOFX performed procrastination at their best (gotta love El Hefe's Speedy Gonzalez accent). Probably the only band that sucked was Good Charlotte (most of the ppl waited for Mxpx to perform). In closing, my first Warped was good to see your favorite band while discovering new ones. However, with the dust bowl happening and having G.I.T.F. (Genitals In The Face) at the 2 main stages, it wasn't good as expected. Warped in NY kinda sucked. Best venue in the world : THE GORGE you should of not seen those pop-punk bands,(alkine trio,Alister, etc.)and you should of seen bands like the casualties, the unseen. Hell, even Anti-flag. You can't capitalize letters at the beginning of sentences; that alone removes the validity of your comment. you like NFG, that alone removes the validity of your review. |
