Due to the unfortunate necessity of college, we arrived at six and missed Common Rider, which somewhat bummed me out because I do enjoy seeing the opening bands. We made it just in time for The Lawrence Arms. I think I may have seen them live once or twice before, but I’ve never really listened to their music otherwise. The Chicago natives managed to put on a really energetic set. The crowd remained fairly calm while they played, but seemed receptive to their music. The songs were very accessible and easy to listen to. All in all, the Lawrence Arms was definitely a band worth checking out. Please login or register to post comments. or we could finally realize that we lost the argument and resort to childish name calling and threats. Just admit it: i never said the review was terribly written, i said that the review was imcomplete. yes, every band had the same message, but the fact that she missed one, took away from part of the message, and according to a previous plea for peace review, Common Rider expressed and showed the most positive messages. She missed an important part of the show. Not only typing an imcomplete show, but missing a band who could use the attention and/or at least some respect. Yes they are all sending out the same message. Therefore if I miss one band I can hear the same message from the other 5 or however many are playing. you cannot tell me that you can read only a few pages of a book and then review it. ebert doesnt watch half of a goddamn movie and expect his review to mean anything. Your argument is worthless. my argument is worthless? okay, can i just state for the record, that one of the reasons i missed common rider was that according to the metro's webpage the show didn't start until either 6 or 6:30? in which case i would've been on time, however the show actually started earlier. whatever though... See, your analogy with a book doesn't work. A book is a conglomeration of chapters that have interlying themes tied between them. A show is just a handful of bands thrown together. Unless all the bands are playing the same material but elaborating on each other's interpretations, your argument is worthless. well, the reason that I didnt comment about the antiflag/bouncing souls show, is because i dont fucking care about that show. im not gonna comment on a show that i do not care about. How come none of you are bitching in the Bouncing Souls/Anti Flag review? That guy said he missed Pipedown, the opening act. Why not go crucify him? I'm not pissed that she missed Common Rider, I am pissed that she still reviewed an incomplete show. Every single band any of you has ever seen has been an opening band hundreds of times. That is how bands are discovered. I always check out the opening bands, if I can. That being said give her a break. Like Scott said, she saw 5 of the 6 bands. A partial review is better than no review. And as for punk rock legends, she saw 2 of the 3 bands featuring legends from former bands... what you people fail to understand is that we're not pissed because she just happened to miss the first band.. it happens. This just isnt any show. There is a HUGE number of people who are going to see the PFP tour ONLY because common rider is on it. Not because of T(I)NC or Anti-Flag or Thursday or PTW. Maybe you like those bands or whatever, but this is the FIRST tour that a punk rock LEGEND has been on over a decade and the music he's putting out is quite excellent. She may have missed the opening band, but that band deserved a much much later playing time. He wrote the song that the fucking tour's named after and she doesnt even know who Jesse Michaels is.. thats why we're pissed. I think some opening bands can be entertaining, especially if they are opening for Pennywise cos anything has to be better than those fucking idiots singing the same songs over and over again i agree for the majority, but sometimes you find gems in opening bands... if anyone has heard of the St. Luis band Very Metal, i got into them after seeing them open for The Suicide Machines, and though i knew about the deviates, i didn't really get into them until after they opened for Pennywise About opening bands....If you want to watch your favorite sitcom at 9:30pm, do you sit down at 5:30pm and watch all the shitty shows before it? Personally, I would go see Common Rider, but normally I miss opening bands, for shows that I think will sell-out I go early to make sure I can get in, then leave and come back. There is no requirement or duty or moral obligation to watch some fuckers (who most likely should practice a lot more and write better songs) slop their way through songs and then have a 45m break before the next band. BORING! At Cleveland for the Plea for Peace Tour, The Lawrence Arms opened up with a half-acoustic version of "100 Resolutions". That was the only song they played off of the split with The Chinkees and the only song they played off of the Shady View Terrace split was "Nebraska". They only played for around half an hour and the rest of the songs they played were off of Apathy and Exhaustion. They really rocked but it was kind of disappointing to only hear their newer stuff. Oh well, I can't wait to see them again! Dudes who are pissed about the missing of Common Rider: NIce review even if you didnt see the whole show. whoa, whoa, whoa, what the fuck? To the person below me, what the fuck is going on? give megan an break. you guys are fuckin wired. she worte and awesome review so chill out. and to the persone who wondered if skiba has a wife, the answer is no. matt is not married. megan thumbs up, you review kicks ass, you are honest and a good writer. it's not you fault so many people are anal and narrow minded and hate anyone who dosn't like exactly what they like. keep rockin. Hey, if any of you guys have been to the Plea for Peace Tour yet and have seen the Lawrence Arms play, could you tell me their set list if you can remember. I just want to see if they're gonna play my favorites. Someone should review Common Rider's secret show at the chain reaction. It was pretty cool. Disappointing. I was hoping to hear more about Common Rider. Fuckin' tease. its funny cause everyone's commenting that the reviewers a "he" when in reality, its a "she". yeah. ha. to the guy below, shut up! who cares that he missed the first band, he had a good reason, and he wanted to be there, what more did you want the guy to do? Jesus man stop being so damn argumentative about everything. fuck I spelled that wrong haha. anyway, yeah thats it. Jesus Christ people should really stop reviewing shows that they did not see in their entirety. Its not fair for those bands. dan has a wife? "Mick Jaggar's not dead, the Stones are on tour right now. Jackass" Dan only played 2 songs off of the new split... Mick Jaggar's not dead, the Stones are on tour right now. Jackass Dan Andriano kicks ass!!! Correction: Mick Jagger WAS way cooler. He died in 1980. You guys DO realize that this review was written by a person named "Megan," right? I'm not sure when everyone refers to the reviewer as "he." Idiots. And The International Noise Conspiracy is caca regardless of what their lead singer's name is. Mick Jagger is way cooler. Overall this was a pretty good review, despite the knowledge of Dennis (and his huge impact on good music in general) and Jesse (same, but Refused is just so much better). To be fair though, Common Rider themselves are fairly new, while the Promise Ring are sort of established. Still, missing Common Rider is a really good band, and while it is pretty weird to enjoy opening bands, this tour is maxed out, where fucking Jesse Michaels is the opener. Poison The Well also sucks, they should listen to Refused and then try and 'revolutionize' hardcore. Emo and generic hardcore is just doubly painful. oh yea, and just so you don't give me shit i know all about jesse michaels and op ivy... dennis lyxzen and refused... check out the post from the analfuck below me... 1) he never said anything about finding "up and coming" bands like common rider, someone else said that a few more posts below 2) he didn't know the name of the lead singer to T(I)NC?!?! shit he should just kill himself 3) he never said anything about dashboard confessional or chris carraba in his review its a shame you missed common rider because.. you enjoy watching opening bands?? yeah its great to check out the new up and comers to the scene (like jesse michaels) when you go out to see these long-time veterans (like the promise ring). If you cant understand why missing common rider was such a horrible thing, and you dont know who the lead singer of the noise conspiracy is, then it is VERY obvious that you know next to NOTHING about music. Go worship Chris Carabba. did anyone tape INC or dan. or have any videos at all. i need ur bootlegs. (t)inc are the fucking best! i love swedes!! yay!! I'm a stalker who wants to have anal se with Mike Park. Why don't you like opening bands? Sometimes you discover new bands that you can end up liking. I do. It's not normal to enjoy seeing an opening band. Your wierd. |
