The first thing I want to say is that this album is good, but not great. If you like Goldfinger, get it. If you are just getting into them, buy their self-titled (most people will agree with me there). I am not sure whether I like this more than “Hang-Ups”, but definitely more than “Stomping Ground.” It’s a good straight-up punk album, it does not seem to be as diverse as their others, especially the first two. It may be the lack of ska, and though I may get some nasty comments for this, I miss it! There is a teeny bit in “It’s Your Life,” but not much. They were pretty good at ska in my opinion and they should have kept with it since it kept the albums mixed up a bit.

Well, my favorites on this album are “Spokesman” of course, and “January,” even though it’s kind of cheesy lyrically. I’ve noticed that quite a few of these songs’ lyrics are cheesy- were they like this in past albums and I just did not notice it because I was younger then? I’ll have to go examine the earlier CDs. Another song I get a kick out of is “Woodchuck”, especially the ending, which reminds me of Thursday. Even though I like Thursday, the gasping for air at the end of “Woodchuck” kills me!

Some of the rhyming in this album gets to me, and I usually don’t have a problem with that kind of thing, it just seems a bit overdone at times. Like in “Happy:” “ If that was then/ We could pretend/ our differences would be the end, / I take it back/ Full-blown attack/ And now it all just fades to black.”

Another thing that bugs me is the political stuff. It’s fine that John’s vegan, but it is presented in kind of a rude, pushy manner. Even the enhanced CD has a section with pictures to show the horrors of eating meat. I always thought songwriters were supposed to convey their message in, well, a song maybe?

The music on this CD is enjoyable for the most part, and I would suggest picking it up. If you haven’t already, take a look at FatTony’s review.

    My Score:

last guy had it right. except, even when the non major corporations have the cash to put out their adds, they still get veto'd by basically all means of communication. Examples...see www.moveon.org and www.peta.org 's non-offensive super bowl adds that were canned for voiceing an opinion.

Back to the album. Not goldfinger's best work (and by the way...does anyone know why that whenever the word goldfinger is written online, finger comes up as a hyperlink? im baffeled)

Still a good album. But it seems to me, even as i am one of their most loyal fans, that they are trying to turn into a political version of good charlotte (who i cant stand...but thats neither here nor there).

I miss the first album and Hang-ups.
Change is not a bad thing for a band, and i do realize that this is not the same goldfinger from those two albums (charlie and simon have left making way for ben and kelly). But i would love to see another album similar to either hang-ups or goldfinger.

i give a ten based on prior history and their still awesome live preformances.

It may be unfair, but remember...this is my favorite band. So fuck off.

The difference between plants and animals? Try a central nervous system you fuckin idiots!

Treatment of migrant farm workers? Guess who's working in American meat processing plants: immigrants, most of which can't speak a word of english. Read Fast Food Nation immediately to hear some of the horror stories yourself.

got milk advertising/no tofu ads? That would probably be because these major corporations/industries have an endless supply of cash.

plants may not feel pain or have brains.. but they are living oragnisms and they are being killed on a daily basis.

if you shoot a cow in the back of the head.. it wont feel pain... so is that ok? it didnt suffer so theres no problem? becasue thids is what youre basing your plant arguement on

I eat meat and i think its fine... but youre saying if it feels pain we shouldnt kill it.

also i would liek to ask how vedgetarians can not be vegans.. if theyre doing ti becsue they are against animal curelty, then why are they drinking milk and eating cheese.

you should be either a vegan or nothing... being in between makes you a hypocrite

that's actually a very weak argument for several reasons. just think about it for a while. do you honestly believe that if we stopped eating vegetables these conditions would stop? no, these people would be out doing other miserable jobs for shitty pay. you have to get to the root of the problem, and boycotting vegetables is far from being the root. poverty is the problem here.

also, the vast majority of vegetables we receive here in the United States are not picked by migrant workers slaving under a hot sun. maybe 50 years ago, but not today.

Fish and chicken are high in protien, especially fish- therefore they are good for building muscle. But beef and pork are death for it. If you don't wanna eat the animals then fine, there is nothing wrong with that, I love animals too, I only eat fish and i respect and appreciate the sacrafice that fish made so that i could eat it. If you dont wanna eat it fine. You guys should stop bagging on other peoples way of life it's not like they're attacking you!

s/t was really good, hang-ups was OK, Stomping Ground was fucking amazing and one the best albums i own, open yours eyes was ok. If they keep this pattern up, the next one shoudl be really good. But its not bad considering the circumstances. 1. year strait of touring, its real hard to write an album on the road. 2. There label went under, so they didnt even know if there would be a next CD and where and when that would be. 3. charlie, one of the most insane lead guitarists ever, left the band 4. its the first album goldfinger recorded without a producer and in John's Home studio. 5. when the new deal went down with JIVE records, all record contracts were all of a sudden valid again. And the contract with MOJO said they have to release a Full length every 2 years. So they took whatever new songs they had, and everything that didnt make it on Stomping Ground, and taught it to there new guitarist during recording. I dont think many bands would be able to weather that storm and still come out with a decent album and get right back on there greuling tour schedual.
So in the end, its an ok album, nothing great. But i dont hate them for it, im sure the next one will be better.
And the vegan thing, how come whenever any vegiterian or vegan tried to say somthing about what they belive in, they are automatically an asshole? Theres no good way to word it because no matter what your telling people what tehy dont want to hear. Theres nothing wrong with eating meat, thats the way the world is set up to work, but people shouldtake a little more responsibilty into how animals are rasied and cared for. Im not going to get into thsi shit now though.
