To start, I have to be honest. OMA would have to take a dump, put it on cd, package it with artwork, and market it to the public for me to give them a lousy review. It just seems to me that these guys can do no wrong.

'Rumors and Headlines", the band's 3rd full-length studio release and debut on BYO, is nothing short of spectacular. The band has seemed to mature further into their unique blend of street punk and classic rock n' roll. Produced by Kevin Army, who also had production credits on the band's debut album 'Dead End Stories', the album has a more subtle and grittier sound than the production work offered on the last album, 'Last Word Spoken' by Billie Joe Armstrong.

Most noticeable is the new inception of shout along choruses, with vocals provided by all three band members. Any OMA fan may be a tad thrown off by the different sound, but eventually it begins to grow on you and seem completely natural.

The song structures have also been modified to reflect a more relaxed sound. Additionally, Jack has done some experimentation with his voice, which now seems to have less of the biting edge of previous work, yet bring a more melodic flow that compliments that overall sound offered.

'Rumors and Headlines' is not a sequel to 'Last Word Spoken', so to those expecting that, as I partially did, you will be surprised. Luckily, the surprise will be combined with the pleasure of listening to one hell of an album.

Whaaa...? You really piss me off.

Last Word Spoken got a 7 and this got an 8!? Can't believe it. This ones slower, a little less street in it. A little shittier in my opinion. S.O.S is the track off the warped compilation. Cool song. I also like Victoria. Awsome song. For new OMA listeners, pick up Last Word Spoken or Dead End Stories then move on to this.

Raise your hand if you have the new unreleased Blood Brothers album that doesn't come out until sometime next year.

Hmm, guess I'm the only one...

Everyone please check out the Blood Brothers, they are fucking incredible. A cross between ATDI and Mindless Self Indulgence. I can't stop listening to it, every time the CD ends I can't help but want to hear it again instead of putting something else in and losing all the energy I've built up listening to it. Fucking incredible.

I want to smack Wuss Emo Rock in the mouth with his Something Corporate CD. And as the blood dribbles down his chin, dodging the sprouts of hair of his post-adolescence latino heat and onto his oversized Andrew WK shirt, ruffled because of the ropes tying him down to the chair as I gleefully giggle over the noise of The Blood Brothers being pumped into his ears while he screams for mercy, never realizing it is indeed what I am giving him.

The only song that stuck with me was "S.O.S.", the rest of the album was pretty forgettable. "S.O.S." is a killer song, though.

Nice review. I thought the album was too melodic and was disapointed by it. I was hoping more for the older oma sound.

    My Score:

This album is not all that great. Too much call and response. Not as amped or fast as Last Word Spoken; slowed tempos throughout the hole album. This album is mediocre punk. Chip Hanna is cool however.

This album rocks and so does Chip from U.S. Bombs. Pick it up if you have 1/100th street punk in you.
