But where most would wither under the pressure of such high honors, MCR prospered, coming out with one of the most original and overall best punk-inspired albums of 2002: The introduction to the album sounds like something out of Leitmotif (the first studio album from Dredg) mixed with an older western-type movie, and leaves the listener kind of bewildered. However, all feelings other than excitement exit as soon as the first chord of the second track bursts through the speakers - and from that moment the listener is hooked, and stays there for the duration of the record. Songs like "Vampires Will Never Hurt You" and "Skylines and Turnstiles" instantly mold themselves into your head with catchy lyrical schemes and guitar work that you end up humming for the rest of the day. Now, after all is said and done, it's obvious this band shows a lot of promise. But the sad truth is that unless they get some decent label committment, you probably won't get a chance to hear them, considering their album is probably available in .01% of stores throughout the country and isn't even available to order online. I happened to get this after seeing them live at a WSOU-sponsored show here in Jersey, and I've been hooked ever since. I'm sure if you search far and wide you can find mp3s somewhere - and the band would want you to.Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
(To pitoresco) hate this fucking band. just because this album is more hardcore and metal than the others doesnt make it better. I'm in love with My Chemical Romance. haha it is pretty funny that back then you couldnt find their music anywhere and know you cant not find it anywhere. as "mainstream" as they have become, as many goth mall kids that now listen to them, they are still pretty good. gerard way has a great voice. Great album. Great review. one word AMAZING! this album is one of the most sad/amazing ever. before i ever really liked them; this was the album to stick in your cd player && just sit && listen to the nicely done lyrics. at points they make you want to go crazy on how beautiful life really is. this album when your down, you put this is, makes you change your mind about everything. im not fucking emo or shit like that but this album is truly amazing. on my list of top favorite cds ...&& an amazing band. this album rocks!! "Now, after all is said and done, it's obvious this band shows a lot of promise. This album is so awesome! people who leave those lame comments about how shit they are need to get a life, why did you even read the reveiw if you don't like it? Freak. this cd is fucking awsome!!!! Some of their song on this album lack, but other are truly great. The songs have meaning, and are good overall. This album is way better than Three Cheers, no doubt about it. I've seen MCR 3 times in concert, and I've loved everyone of them. I hate seeing people only listening to them because they are 'oH sU HawT', and not their music. YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!! "I am Completly in love with these people, they are *ucking hott all of them,Gerard, Mikey and Frank especially. and who ever disses them even ONCE will have bats all over they *ucked up ass. curtessy of ME! hey, i honestly didnt know that there were 3 records, i've only heard 2. are there 3? it seems dumd since i love them so much but i'm in scotland so there's limited resources. if there is a 3rd record could you please tell me the name of it so i can go and buy it. thanks! this album does beat Three Cheers.... but i love both records just because i do. i don't have much of a reason for it except the concentration and focus i get when i listen to MCR. I pretty much agree with the guy below it does beat the shit outta Three cheers for sweet revenge which is way too fuckin commercial. This album is raw and artistic i fuckin love it. xXx I loved it. It beats the shit out of "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge." Thank you labels are for soup. I love all three albums, and for you guys who hate them, you can have your oopinoin but please don't be too mean.some people like the severina person sound like they would go pshyco on your ass. I am Completly in love with these people, they are *ucking hott all of them,Gerard, Mikey and Frank especially. and who ever disses them even ONCE will have bats all over they *ucked up ass. curtessy of ME! idc to much for this band but im not into them an di dont kno much bout them besides the one guitar solo in im not okay is weak and totally out of place but hey the guys ugly so it sok lol but idk th esinger looks like a bert who i also dont like i saw bert live and it seemed he needed help on his screams they werent screams they were very loud talking and mouth is right up close to the mic. But guys Saying bands try and copy another band do u really thik that You think th eband sat down and said lets copy that band? no they just play and all the music out nowadays its goign to sound close to it this is my favourite album of the three. the best song is demolition lovers. this band is sick and i can relate to the lyrics. this band is amazing and im pissed they arent coming to barrie for warped tour this year. Good band but this CD is lacking certain things. A good flow and a few good songs. A little killer and lots of filler. Get Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. Good band but this CD is lacking certain things. A good flow and a few good songs. A little killer and lots of filler. Get Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. I concur with the below poster. Remove that "assholes" from the last post. >_> Didn't really help my case of non-sensical, hunh? o_o The other comments posted are shocking, some people refuse to accept new bands. It seems as though some of the other people are just defending their favourite bands by criticizing other. Of course, people are going to jump in an say: "no they just suck shit lol i r so original". People are entitled to their opinion but assholes reading non-sensical bashing like that makes my retinas bleed. You call people "fucking losers" for making an attempt at a joke, and that's great. Next time you manage to coordinate yourself enough to manage a comment other than insulting anything that isn't underground or hardcore enough for you I'll make sure to let you know how stupid you will sound. Crap. Saw them in Worcester, MA. They sounded like shit. The dude had a jean jacket with one sleeve ripped off...what a tool. unoriginal music, horrible live show. Actually I wouldn't call them re-hashed. Their sound is kind of different, they remind me of an AFI with way better guitar work. Everyone is calling them emo/hardcore. I think that's not even an appropiate label. They're just a really odd punk-band. Damn. I like them, So shoot me... what about "the boys are black in town?" the title of this band's next release: ha! that is all there is to be said. this band takes credit..not for the music that they play ...but for the bands that they tour w/. heavy hitters such as thrice and FATA. nice try mcr...but not even close. they are on the horizon to be picked up next tues. along w/ the trash that encompasses them in my street-side bins. this album is hype. and now... Reprise... "my chemical romance is awesome!!!! my chemical romance is awesome!!!! i was at the detriot show and i loved them. when i first heard this band a few months ago, i was amazed. i don't even like this kind of genre really but the really hit me. i went straight to the merch table and grabbed a copy of the album (they were going pretty fast) i love my chemical romance and i can't wait to see them live again. of course they're gonna stand up for themselves if people give them shit. they work hard at what they do. even if you don't like their music, respect them for that. i'm sure you're favorite band would do the same if they got heckled. any one that wasn't a coward would. they're not some sissy, cry baby emo band. they have balls. production sucks. Mr. Thursday can produce a band for shit. What kind of "nice guys" challenge people to fight them or say/imply that they want/are going to kick someone's ass just because they got heckled? That happens to all bands at some point and these guys need to grow up and deal with it. Also, I saw them last week and I think they are one of the most horrible bands I have ever had to hear. And whats with that motorcycle thing the singer does like 25 times in 1 set? Fucking gay. franks tough? really? must have been all that running away from fights he did in catholic school amazing band i've been in love with since the first time i heard them ... then i saw them live and now im obsessed my favorite band could rise up from the dead and suck your bands blood. bullshit actually frank is pretty goddamn tough. blah. blah. blah. One, frank couldnt hurt a fly cause if anyone is a pussy its that kid, second they are very very boring live, just riding the hype machine and their "connections" with Thursday. people, listen to the album before you call it good. what the hell....? captain change her mind...its b79corgan@aol.com this is her friend lauren..she says i can't leave her screenname..sorry! Hey, this is the guy that met Brett in Cleveland. Does anyone know how i can get ahole of her? She was really rad.... what a cutie.... ...i forgot to address the fact that when they were playing their set, THE WHOLE BAND was screaming and howling and just going crazy simultaneously. it's really fucking good to see people who can freak out together and still make good noise. the set was enegetic and just plain fuckin great. Gerard wanted my girl-nuts. i just know it. wow, you guys need some new reviewers. hey, i know nothing about the band but i can tell by reading this thread that their fans are fucking dorks... This band has a little too much charisma. Have you ever seen them live? Terrible. great band... very shitty name.. there is also no need for "this band sux" misspelled in a thousand different ways. but you don't see me complaining. until now, that is. Wow. I've yet to hear this album, but ask yourself is this really worth getting this upset for? There is no need for one hundred word essays enitiled "These are the nicest, most talented, most acrobatic, freindliest, well hung, band in the world." Relax people it's just music. Yeah, her name is Brett...and I was with her while she got the tattoo, and in Cleveland.. That was a 10 hour drive, and well fucking worth it. Yeah I was at the Cleveland show and i met one of the girls from Nashville (Brit i think? Or Bret?) she was really cool. If you don't think that MCR has hardcore fans, check her out she drove all the way from Nashville and has the MCR logo on the CD cover tattooed on her arm. She and her friend were right up there singing with everyone else. Really cool. And that show owned. MCR is probably one of my favorite live bands and I love the cd. And I asked for their autograph because i know that they'll make it big soon. I love My Chemical Romance! "Scott, overgay and underknowledged" "Overhyped and undertalented." to be honest, i had never even heard of these guys before i saw them play with piebald back on dec 18th This is the "girl from nashville" to the asshole from Cleveland...Did I really talk to you??? thats rather weird.... I listened to the album. It wasn't bad. I couldn't really get behind the whole thing, but there are a few songs on there that kick ass. There are a few that blow too. For me they're a band that I'd see live if someone else that I liked was playing with them and there were no tough guy hardcore bands (The current fad here) on the bill. I'd probably buy the cd if I found it for under 15 bucks. Yeah. I haven't heard any "Hype" for them, other than when I played them on my radio show. Maybe that's because I live in the middle of nowhere. I dunno. I really hope all the long comments sticking up for MCR are really written by different people, not one really bored fan. If it is a bunch of different people I have to say I'm very impressed, not that it takes a lot of effort to type a response to some stupid kids, but the responses are certainly better than the, "i like tis band a lot they r reely nice and have good songs you gys are fuckrs for badmouthing them" kind. Seriously, when's the last time any of you have read anything remotely as long and heartfelt as the few comments I'm refering to? Never probably, cause I know I haven't. They actually give me more respect for the band, knowing that they really are super nice guys and whatnot, which I'm sure most band members are. Anyway, just figured I'd give props to the few who wrote any of those long winded compliments about MCR. This is of course assuming they're not all written by the same bored person. By the way, MCR's cd was number 8 on my best releases of 2002 list. ok, im the asshole from cleveland, so far down. to the person from nashville or whatever.. i think i even talked to you. its too bad that you're so narrowminded to think i form my own opinions on bands i see. i saw them in their hometown (well, close, the electric factory in philadelphia) and they put on a reasonable show, but not enough to win me over. As razor sharp white teeth rip out our necks I saw you there. gag... O.K for those of you making a comment on the lil comments Gerard makes.... He's JOKING! If you didnt catch that then obviously your dense... These guys are the greatest guys you will every have the pleasure of meeting... I am from Chicago and everytime they have been here they have been nothing but awsome.. My dad had a massive stroke 2 days after Thanksgiving.. I saw them a couple days later and I told Frank about my dad... that night they dedicated their set to me and dedicated a friendship song to me.. Our Lady of Sorrows.. it made me cry and after the show all of them were telling me they would keep him in their thoughts and giving me alot of love... then this last time they were here the 1st words out of Gerards mouth to me was "hey!! how's your pop?" I couldnt believe he even remembered let alone cared!! When I told him he was doing better he was genuinely happy and kept hugging me... I got to the show just as they were about to get on so I didnt get to see any of them before the show.. so after the show when Frank saw me he was like "did you miss our show??" and seemed upset about it..I told him I didnt and he was happy and asked how my dad was... I mean I have met these guys 3 times and I feel like they are friends of mine.. for them to care that much about me... then before we left they were doing an interview and Ray poked his head out of the van and was like "are you leaving??" when I told him we were he told me to wait a second so they could do the interview... When they were done they came out to say goodbye to us... when I was saying good bye to Frank he told me to keep in touch and he told me he was happy about my dad... then while saying goodbye to Gerard he just kept hugging me and telling me how happy he was about my dad and if he would have know before hand he would have said something on stage...he just kept huging me and he told me that he loved me and I said it back I was almost crying cause of the things he was saying... we also had some friends of ours with us who were in a band also (Detour) and each of the guys took their time to talk to our friends and even thought the music was different then theirs still gave them props ( I gave them a CD last time they were in town) and even suggested a show together...these guys are the best!!! and if you cant see that or take the time to get to know them and look deep into their music and realize the true message to it... then that is sad cause you are missing out on great music and great people... and don't compare them to anyone... they cant be classified!! They are MCR no one else.. and Phil!!!! Their " roadie" some one ripped on... he is also a sweet heart.. he felt left out and wanted pics with us and signed my cd LOL... he too is a great guy and he does his job well... those guys love him and so do all of us!!!!! We love you Gerard, Frank, Mikey, Matt and Ray and yes Phil and I believe his name is "Big Ruff" also! him saying every song was about "killing the head cheerleader to get a hard on" was a joke! i was there sunday. it was a fucking joke. read the post right before you....and they will do beautifully on the next tour. beleive it or not these boys can hold their own. they have been on tour with the used before. they will do great because they will have all their real fans out in the crowd every night cheering them on, no matter what the song is about that night. I saw them open for Piebald and the ghost last week. Thier cd is not that bad and they have a great energetic stage presence I haven't seen in a while. after reading all these posts i can say i am pretty fucking homicidal. half the people on here don't know what the fuck you are talking about!! i will restate what has been said already because it just NEEDS to be said again. mcr are five of the nicest guys i have ever met. they actually care about their fans. its crazy like that. they talk to us online and hang out with us at shows and treat us like friends not like we are their paycheck. how many other bands do that? that guy that wanted to kick your ass? he should have you fucking loser! frank is one of these five incredible guys. he is a truly nice and caring person. and he probably wouldn't have beat the shit out of you although we all know you deserve it you asshole. and as for phil. all i have to say is that guy rocks more than any of you could understand. he saved my life. he cared enough to save my life. he cared enough to threaten loser hacklers like you jackoffs. he is a great guy and isn't even part of the band so should not be brought up here. i saw them on sunday at the chicago show where all the songs were about "killing the head cheerleader to get a hardon." its a joke. so you're not informed of how or why it is a joke. just know that it is and appreciate the music. now who was the fucker who said they had no stage presence? are you blind? and even if you are you would still be able to feel the amount of stage presence these boys possess. they can get even the smallest fucking crowd or the most boring crowd riled up to the point where they can stage dive in a bowling alley. that has to say something about the band. i don't know if any of the people who only had negative things to say ever bothered to go to the site and read the lyrics, but you might want to do so before you post again. they are geniuses. they write poetry. they write beautiful emotion and express it through music. and then they are even nice enough to let us listen to is. and all fuckers come on here saying bad things about them?! these guys have saved me with their music alone. just playing their cd, their wonderful underhyped beautiful cd, and thinking happy thoughts of the fireside has been whats kept me alive for the last few months. in closing, my chemical romance are gods to me and friends to me all at the same time. MCR is fucking amazing, and if you think they suck oh fucking well stop bitching. I found this cd at Tower Records in VA so you might be able to find it some places, who knows. Yeah there not as good as the hype there much better. I totally agree. And My Chemical Romance owns every band. One more thing, somebody needs to calm down and stop doing speed before they post. Yeah, I saw these guys live in Erie opening for Piebald. The singer opened every song with "This is about suckin dick for coke." They were good live, but not as good as the hype. I think I need to say this one more time My Chemical Romance owns every band!!!! My Chemical Romance owns every band!!!! And have a nice day. Oh yeah and My Chemical Romance owns every band!!!! My Chemical Romance owns every band!!!! And I don't care about anyone elses opinion. My Chemical Romance owns every band!!!! To anybody that compares Finch to this band: Please don't. There is no comparison. I love this band!!!! They are extremly talented. I have seen them twice already. And I am going to see them again feb. 7. They amaze me. There my favorite band. They are the nicest guys you will ever meet. And after they perform they always go out in the loby to greet there fans. Who ever says there assholes and untalented WOW your dumb!!!! I saw these guys opening for Taking Back Sunday in Boston a few weeks ago. Pretty good stuff, and their singer has a good presence and spazzes out a lot. He also swears a lot in between songs. The band gave me a strong AFI vibe, both in terms of music and the singer's appearance. "Vampires Will Never Hurt You" - just the name has AFI written all over it. But I like AFI, so its all good. I wouldn't mind seeing these guys again. To the guy who thinks the MCR guys are assholes.... one of the best fucking bands i have ever heard. if you want the record go to MCR rocks my socks...u commenters are a bunch of pop tarts who dont know music! beside putting on a amazing live show (i've seen them 3x, to be 4 in feb) they are awesome guys, they are so dedicated and loyal to their fans! they are the nicest band i've ever met...gerard, mikey, frankie, otter, and ray ray...i luv u guys! cant wait to see ya feb 7th! for the record...nate from finch doesnt scream "shut up" over the string section on what it is to burn, he screams "she burns." sounds like your jealous... or you're really out to destroy them. pick one. I saw this band open for piebald, elliot, and koufax reccently and they were easily the worst live band I have ever seen in my life. There was absolutely nothing redeeming about them whatsoever. Their sound was totally boring, unorginal, and really derrivative. To me this band represents everything that is wrong with all this nu-emo bullshit. If you have never heard this band think of any reccent band that is slightly punk or emo in any way, and take that sonically and make it ten million times worse you have this band. To go along with their total lack of talent and unorginality they have no stage presence. At the show I was at they had some kind of technical problem and their lead singer, who is so ugly I'm not sure if he's a girl or a guy, was all like: "geez, I better tell a story or something" while his guitarist fixed something, and he just kinda stood there, in total silence for a good 30 seconds and didn't say anything, and then he goes "well I guess I don't have one" and laughes like an asshole. This makes my friend yell, SHUT THE FUCK UP, and this loser flips my friend off and goes "this is for you asshole" and starts playing this really boring song. Oh yea and I forgot to mention they have this roadie that wishes he was chris carraba except he's too much of an ex frat boy, what a tool, he was like beckoning on the hecklers. If this band is opening for a band you like go late to the show, I wish I did, and if you see this band you will wish that you did too. I just got this album from Interpunk so you can get it there. I find this record as a little hit or miss as well. Do remember that this is their debut. They can always get better. It'll most likely stay in my rotation for awhile. Catchy melodies and pretty good lyrics keep me interested. i had the privledge of seein them live recently, with fairweather and piebald. the lead singer wore one of the shirts that they were selling.. and he was like spitting water on the crowd and signing autographs like he was on a major label or something.. it really bothered me. Say what you will about them, but I really like these guys. I got into some of their songs (especially Headfirst for Halos) and then saw their live show... they really worked the crowd well. Meh...I dunno. Hit or miss with me as well. I saw these guys opening for Piebald the other day. I was unimpressed. The singer obviously felt like the song about "letting old guys watch you jack off for bus fare" was supposed to be shocking, but the crowd sure didn't. Ya know, it's not fair to call a band like this overhyped. They are a good band and they had some good songs, and it raised a buzz. That's what happens in the music industry, it's not a crime. They got people excited, then delivered their attempt at a CD.. and I like the CD a lot. I think it lived up to the excitement, and I definately enjoy it. I like this album, but I don't understand the hype everyone pours on it. The songs are very hit or miss for me. I think the first three songs are the best on the album, I dig the vocal lines and the guitar work. After than, the middle part of the album is kinda boring, I only like "Headfirst for Halos." "Early Sunsets..." is the low point for me, it just wanders. The last 3 tracks finish out strongly, but it's hard to listen to an album when the middle half is just blah. Still, I think they show promise, I like the singer's voice and and the spastic squeals they through in once in a while. good band...too bad i'll never get my fingers on this cd...i'll save precious time and not even look. I heard this band and it reminded me of the first Glasseater CD. Mreh. I saw them once and they weren't that hot.. they remind me a whole lot of Finch minus the very few screams Finch even has... i agree with scott, overhyped. When i saw them, though, i along with the majority of the crowd (keep in mind this was at a The Used show), didn't know who they were when they got on stage, but at the end of their set, i was surprised no girls threw their bras up there or something... they had like the whole crowd in their hands.. it was crazy.. but then again.. god the crowd at that show was stupid.. good thing it was only $1 for the show. I can see these guys on MTV2 soon though.. The only thing I'm looking forward to here is whether or not they can follow this album up with an even worse title. way to shout out SOU i'm seeing them on feb 10th....can't wait... this band is amazing and hopefully will be bigger some day.. Overhyped and undertalented. |
