Whatever it is that makes punk rock so appealing to me, the Blind Pigs have captured on this album.

Writing the band off as Brazil’s Rancid does so little justice to the amount of rock this record delivers. On one hand, there are plenty of songs here that wouldn’t seem out of place on a release from The Forgotten or Rancid. Indeed, the tone of the album jumps between the instant catchiness of the Oakland foursome’s “…Out Come The Wolves” and the blistering speed and anger of their 2000 self-titled album. However despite the heavy influences the Blind Pigs never get stuck sounding derivative or uninspired. There’s a youthfulness and energy here that’s captivating. Both vocally and in terms of enthusiasm the Blind Pigs call to mind the qualities that make The Explosion so endearing. That is if the Explosion freely interchanged Portuguese for English.

I love how no effort to is made to hide their culture here. About half of the 18 tracks here are in Portuguese, yet they’re presented with such passion that it never seems any less believable or coherent than the rest of the CD. “Blind Pigs” comes off a little short, with 18 tracks speeding by in only 23 minutes, but with no glaring missteps in terms of songwriting that’s entirely forgivable. This is one of those records that works far better as a whole than when dissected apart into individual tracks.

So often an album will show up on my doorstep only to find it’s way into this dark limbo realm that is half way between “deserves a place on the shelf” and “pass on to friends.” The Blind Pigs went straight to the shelf, overlooking my room from a high vantage point in the B’s sandwiched between Black Flag and Bouncing Souls.

    My Score:

Blind Pigs was my band of the moment and I have to say, I don't know what this record sounds like but Sao Paulo Chaos definitely does have more of a Screeching Weasel vibe as opposed to Rancid.

Its actually pretty good pop-punk too

    To the fuckhead below me,

You never mentioned in your first post that you had no money, only that you won't spend money on the cd. I think the other guy's reaction was fair in saying that just because the record is short doesn't mean that it's not worth the money. There's no need to be a dickhead. Interpunk has the cd for under 10 bucks. It was posted on here. Try reading more.

Fine. Go ahead and enjoy your 20 minute CD's. I'd rather spend that same exact amount of money on an album that's going to give me 45 minutes of music.

    Dickhead.

hahaha, yeah i'm just loaded. anyway, the length of an album means absolutely nothing. the descendents' "milo goes to college" is like 20 minutes long, and you can't tell me that it's not worth every penny.

    My Score:

It's interesting that you feel that your money is only well spent if the length eclipses some length barrier. I have plenty of CDs that are long as hell, and in some case double CDs, but I still like my 20 minute punk CDs more. I think if the only thing you are basing the worth of an album on is length you should stick to buying greatest hits of U2 1990-2000 (which I currently own).

don't you hate it when you're listening to a great CD that you don't want to turn off, but then you read two reviews of bands that sound interesting right in a row? and you don't know wheather or not to turn off the CD, therefore ruining the flow of the album that's on (which is mellow and actually matching your mood), and listening to the new music, or to just leave the cd you're listening to at the time and just hope you remember later. i hate it when that happens.

"Don't expect me to buy that thing. Way, way too short especially considering the number of tracks listed."

who fucking cares how long it is? if it's good, it's good. i've never heard this band, but that comment pissed me off and deserved rebuttal.

Actually, I do fucking care. Considering the lack of money I have right now, I can't afford to spend 12 bucks on an album that's only 20 minutes long and considering how I can't burn any songs on an album right now, I'm pretty much stuck, aren't I?

Sorry, not everyone has money like you.

Douchebag. It's people like you that piss me off.

18 songs in 23 minutes? I just got the F-Minus self titled with 20 songs in 17 minutes, that make me punker!

In all seriousness, if the album totally rocks just enjoy it regardless of the length... play it a couple times in a row then pretend it's a longer cd...

and the cd is under ten bucks at interpunk, so it's not like they are charging a ton of money for it. often punk rock like this is short and fast.

I must say....they are a lot like Rancid.....big time. Most of the songs on this album remind me of "Maxwell Murder" or songs off of 2000.

I heard "Last Call", "Borderline", and "Sete de Setembro" and while these songs do rock, they are also very short. The score is for the time limit. But I would give the album an 8.

18 tracks and only 23 minutes?

Don't expect me to buy that thing. Way, way too short especially considering the number of tracks listed.

Rancid's "and Out Come..." had 18 tracks and was near or above 50 minutes.
