A monument of greatness that can be matched only by a few albums, this one is a total masterpiece. The Minutemen are a genre jumping trio that sounds like a mixture of Gang of Four, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and hardcore punk. Their lyrics are mostly about political issues, but they talk about all kinds of things in their music. The lyrics are sometimes metaphorically obtuse and the majority of songs don't follow the verse-chorus-verse structure. D. Boon, the lead singer/guitarist has an everyman kind of voice that sounds sometimes like conversation and sometimes like histrionic screaming. These guys are the definition of punk: unique, imaginitive, and totally out there. This album is their finest statement clocking in at around 70 minutes or so, and having 43 songs, 5 or so that are covers. All in all this is an essential album, and if you want to know how to make music that's totally original, listen to these guys and see how it's done right.

one of the greatest rock n roll albums of all time from the greatest american band of the last thirty years One of the true punk albums that to me totally defined and extended the barriers of this genre. They chose an approach without loads of effects but instead used whatever came to mind in terms of jazz, even mainstream, cover versions or funny stuff (like this strange George Hurley instrumental.) In my opinion they were three individual musicians each one doing his own thing. The way in which it all comes together makes the Minutemen so unique in what they did! 10 out of 10. Though I love Zen Arcade; TAKE THAT HUSKERS! (Did the reviewer use the CD?? Shame on you!) If you claim to be punk and don't respect the Minutemen, you're a poser and a terrorist. Double Nickles on the Dime is the greatest Punk album of all time in my opinion. I have had to buy the this album numerous times due to wearing it out on cassette a few times, now I have it on CD, unfortunetly the CD is minus two songs that were on the original. If you are into Punk and Punk History definetly without no hesitation buy this CD immediately. If you raise your children to MTX your children will turn into happy adults. Where are my MTX reviews! That's Mr. T Experience. It should be noted that most of Mike Watt's solo work after the Minutemen and firehose was really great too. this is a good review. |
