This release embodies essentiality. On this album Fugazi expands from Margin Walker and the self titled EP to more melodic punk with a different fomula to the songs (most tracks on the two previously mentioned releases have a prescribed fomula and it becomes redundant). Ian's singing is the most tolerable on this album as he sings most of the time as opposed to shout/scream vocals, the rhythm section plays tight throughout, and the dual guitar front produces distorted yet soaring music. Fugazi always pushes their own boundaries and at the same time remain accessable to most listeners (which is not the case with the highly overrated Radiohead) and in the process has composed the best punk rock on the east coast if not the US. Moving on to the tracks: every single song hits the bull's-eye down to the instrumental. In addition all of the songs sound differently (a bonus in my book) and follow nicely in order - a nice theme to the album. The only problem with the album's theme is the inclusion of the self titled EP at the end since Shut The Door fits nicely as an end song. This can be remedied, however, by simply buying Repeater as itself since the price is low. Simply put: this album belongs in your collection.

Everyone should have this album in their collection! What do you mean you don't have this album?! Log off and go get it already! Repeater is a definitive post-punk classic. Slide it into your car stereo and weld it shut. You don't need to listen to anything else. Radiohead? I thought this was the Fugazi thread. One of my all-time-favourites. This record is absolutely essential. Its a shame that these guys have basically called it quits (Say it ain't so!). absolutely phenomenal I got this CD today, brilliant ahh, another favorite of mine. this album is just flawless from beginning to end. these guys are almost too good. radiohead is awesome. yeah, they may not be that accessible but they are still a very creative and interesting band. the only band that matters in the mainstream in my opinion. your an idiot. radiohead is the best band ever. radiohead sounds like a dying lamb on acid. Radiohead has more talent in their collective pinky toes then most any other band going right now. And when I say "the great white hope" I dont mean skin color. I just mean that in a musical landscape pumping out rap-metal, teen pop, and yes, some crappy punk too, at least Radiohead have talent, integrity, and vision. Personally, I like Fugazi a lot, but I cant even put them near Radiohead in terms of skill, they are, like most bands, miles behind. I would like to disagree with your comments about Radiohead. First of all Kid A was such a joke of an album...sampling minimalism doesn't make you a genius and on top of that, defeats the whole concept of minimalism. WAY TOO MUCH PRODUCTION ON IT! Fugazi eclipses them totally. fugazi is the ultimate in progressive punk. this is a must own cd. radiohead is just too wierd for me. If radiohead is the great white hope for modern music, im glad cultural imperialism is coming to a close. I'm glad caucasian music (a stupid label in and of itself) is being represented by contrived and meandering, mumbling rock. Good review, but I gotta disagree with the comment about Radiohead being overrated, they are the great white hope for modern music. Anyway, I have been meaning to get this Fugazi CD for a while, I think I'll go snag it soon. |
