I arrived at the Avalon Ballroom at around 7:45. That means I had 45 minutes until the opening band, Against Me! was up. I noticed that the Avalon Ballroom was definitely not the best place for a punk show. It had fancy white pillars, chandeliers, the whole ballroom deal. But it was bigger than the famous Slim's of SF. So that was enough to make me happy. It was a NOFX show, and I expected some pretty bad things from the crowd. It consisted mostly of 15-17 year olds, with the occasional 12 year old running around. When I was done exploring the area, I sat down and waited for the most anticipated part of the show (for me, anyway), Against Me!. Please login or register to post comments. Hey man i was there at the show and i liked all the bands. Against me isnt my prefference to listen to but they put on a good show. As for Manic Hispanic they also put on a kickass show They are a good live band to watch. Of course NoFX kicked even more ass because they are one of the best bands ever. so there i thought all in all the show was good. "i don't have enough money to get a marshall or a mesa." Why do you bitch so much about everything? a guy gives an opinion about a show he attended..so there's no way you can say he's wrong.. it's just an opinion. he has his and you have yours..it's that simple... i usually read this show reviews when im going to see a band in a near future, and i usually don't post any comment about it. i just check what songs i can expect from the show ill attend and what can i expect about the interaction of the band with the auddience. I'm pretty sure ill feel old in the nofx show ill see in june like someguy said he felt like when he went to see them.. but what's wrong about it?.. i was also a 15-17 years old once and i enjoyed the shows as well as i enjoy them now. i like seeing lots of kids in the shows cause thats the way i know they wont let this kind of music die.. there will allways be new bands (some better than others) to listen to when the ones i listen to right now decide to put an end on their careers. Punks talk a lot about how people are elitists.. but you are being no different than those people you often criticise. Support the bands you like and forget about the others... if u don't like them, don't listen to them... there's no use in bashing those bands,cause the ones who like them will still like them no matter what your opinion is (they care even less considering you never explain your opinion, you just say it sucks). You will be doing a better job if you show some unknown band you know and like to people who don't know it, and they may eventually like it and start buying their stuff or going to their shows. You West Coast people get all the great shows! I've seen Against Me! twice, since they're a FL band, but never seen Manic or NOFX ... ever. Against Me! is great live, even if it's not the music I usually dig; they know how to entertain. They all need better equipment, though, especially the drummer. His kit blows. Well what do you expect from a show with NOFX? Of course their idiot fans wouldnt be able to comprehend the greatness that is Against Me! Against Me sucked major ass! They couldn't even play some filler music while their dipshit roadies tried to fix the amp head. The drummer was running all over the place and looked like a freak from 1969. Shave that stupid fucking beard! MANIC HISPANIC made this fucking show great! Yup. Fuck you 12 cent. Never heard ya, and never will now after that stupid ass stupid display of stupidity. Have you heard the clean tone on a MESA? I pity you for having paid for one. Pretty much the only place you're gonna hear people talk shit about Against Me! is on a Nofx board. This score is for you boring ass 13-20 year old pieces of shit that are ruining this scene. Nofx is a kickass band, ten years ago. Uber you're talking out your ass about the amps. Everyone and their mom's play Mesa/Boogie Rectifiers now... look at almost any band and chances are they switched from Marshall to Mesa. I have owned both, and have had way more trouble wiht my Mesa than my Marshall, so you can't really say they're overpriced, especially since Mesas cost several hundred more than Marshalls in general. I think Fat Mike does so much cool shit (sign some of my favs like Lawrence Arms, D4, Rise Against) but I just cannot handle NOFX. This review on the other hand made me feel like I was at the show and I didnt have to hear that music. So good deal. I saw the show in Hollywood and it was great, except for Against Me. They were very bad. Manic Hispanic was great, as was NOFX. I don't see how people can dislike Manic Hispanic. They play their versions of classic punk songs,and they play them well, so musically, they're great, and they are funny as hell. It's probably just as expensive maintaining an old amp as it is to get a new one. So while youre trying to be all PUNK by reviewing this PUNK show, you insult Against Me for not using a tour quality amp. So now having money and being able to buy fancy amps is punk rock? Come on, gear breaks down weather or not its old. This amp may have been serviced and in perfect quality and then had something go wrong... it has happened in the past, even to brand new amps!!
