Its been nearly 5 years since the last Propagandhi album. What have these guys been up? Some years back Propagandhi went out and formed the G7 Welcoming Committee Collective (a worker owned and operated record label dedicated to the expansion of resistance culture through music, print, and spoken word) rather than putting out their own new material-until now. The big question here is that in music today, is there a need for these guys? While in the late 70s and early 80s you may be able to name off about 1000 Activism/America Sucks bands, today theres only a few left. Why is that? Bands have moved on from their roots and sing about girls now, times have dramatically changed. I myself can only think of a small handful of people I know who lives are all about activism and anarchy and their pool of supporters and fellow "comrades" are very tiny. Most people who like bands like Propagandhi or Anti Flag for example love their music, just not their messages that they speak of. There was a twinge of excitement when it was announced that this album could be downloaded from Napster. I must inform you that there is much more this time around to their c.d. as a whole. Besides getting new songs, stick your c.d. into the c.d. rom drive in your computer and its a multimedia experience. Although most people will care less about the multimedia features and just about the music you can't deny that you cannot experience this with just downloading the album off Napster. There are numerous video presentations on here including "Ward Churchill: To Disrupt, Discredit, And Destroy", "The G7 Welcoming Committe", and "William Blum: U.S. Foreign Policy-A Study In Hypocrisy". There are also various pamphlets you can view via Acrobat Reader which also comes on the c.d. The activist William Blum contributes a whopping 189 page essay called "To Disrupt, Discredit and Destroy-The FBI's secret War Against The Black Panther Party" and there is also a 16 page thing on why you should chose to be a Vegan. There is also a presentation from AK Press Audio where you can read all about Anarchism, Vegetarians, Animal Rights, Zapatisa, all written by "progressive intellectuals and activists". The music is the same, they mix together mid 80s political hardcore and early 80s speed metal. Like all the multimedia features, the themes are the same, "Fuck The Border, Bullshit Politicians, and Albright Monument Baghdad". There are some pretty decent songs on here. So is this c.d. for you? If you live for anarchy and activist issues I couldn't recommend anything more than this. Its perfect because of the added multimedia experience besides getting new material from Propagandhi. If you are not into hardcore and you especially hate anything to do with politics whatsoever then stay away. Please login or register to post comments. "Does no one realize these guys are totally the wrong gender? Seriously, Propaghandi is like taking a fucking grrlrock band and slapping on a few cocks and bad haircuts. I don't mean to be closed-minded, but there a few things guys just cannot do and angry chick music is one of them. I think they all need serious help in figuring themselves out, or perhaps some surgery. They are all very unstable. If anyone knows where they can find a good support group, please help me contact them. So the only part of this review that talked about the music was this: "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA! ! perfect Also, propagandhi are not gay! what a retarded review, this guy should be reviewing for kerrang or some shit like that. i admit i think propagandhi's earlier releases were lacking, but this album hits the nail on the head! Propagandhi are fags and i hope they all die from aids.......... I would have gave this album a score of 0. Bloody gay fag diahrea , but the score only went as low as 1, these guys do nothing but whine and cry and sing about themselves. If they had real balls instead of gay fag balls they would put a magnum to their heads and blow their gay fag brains out. 1: Political Punk does not Suck. political punk sucks big time first are there any bands that compare to propagandhi lyrically and musically? propagandhi have created an fuckin good album, powerful till the end FUCKING AMAZING This record is the best thing to hit the punkrock scene since The Decline! I just think anyone who complains about this record should carefully check out the lyrics and musical arrangements on Todays empire... not as good as the old shit, but still a good album. "bullshit politicians" fucking kicks ass. is the propagandhi record "i'd rather be flag burning" a bootleg? to the asshole that said propagandhi are just washed up drunks who think they're from thes states and should shove a moose up their ass, fuck are you an idiot man. they're canadian and have never said anything close to claiming they're from the states, although chris did live there for a few years while his dad was in the military. they speak out against the largest oppresing country in the world, which just happens to be America. If I ever meet you face to face I will fucking kill you, you're nothing but a donkey dink fuck face. HMMM.. Who is the fuck head who wrote this review.. I'm not waht ya call anarchist .. cause I don't conform to any name I'm me.. but Is there a need for this type of activism?? why dont u just take a look at the world around you .. YOU STUPID BRAINLESS FUCK@.. Man you are a dumb fuck.. You got any idea of what goes on?? how much oppresion there is... Go try learn something that MTV doesn't teach you dickhead. This album is my favorite of 2001 and I'll listen to it in 2002 for sure! There's a great political message and it's expressed by very intellignet lyrics. The multimedia part is very well made too. A very inspired album! Also, their music fuckin rocks! Actually emo bands scream all the time whole lot too. Just not indie rock bands. But thats common knowledge. these guys are just 3 old, washed up, drunken assholes that think they're from the states. go shove a moose up your ass. While I love Propagandhi, Im glad to see someone at least has the dignity to put some reason behind a negative review, instead of just whining about how Sum-41 is "punk" or how Propagandhi is going to hell for their beliefs. it's nice to know there's a lot more political punk bands out there that deliver their message in a far more interesting manner and have a lot better things to say than Propagandhi and other hacks like Anti-Flag, and yet those bands get the shaft. I tried to like Propagandhi but their hamfisted diatribes were irritating and musically they're not only lacking in coming up with a unique sound but what they do come up with gets dull pretty quickly. You hate when bands scream? Your name is girlgerms? Get the fuck off of here emofuck. This is a punk website. 99% of punk bands have screaming somewhere in their music. Speaking of napster and napster alike programs. I will buy any album , as long as its good and i believe the band i was going to go by this cd tomorrow, or i am, but peoples comments say they scream for the most part...i HATE when bands scream!!!i cant stand it, its shit, it sounds like pure shit that makes me want to puke. this is easily one of the best cd's I own. I am a vegetarian so i like it alot. fucking amazing..its much more thrash than the other records..but that aint so bad...if you want it to sound like less talk..then dont buy it..youll cry. You know... when I think about it... the extra hardcore makes a lot of sense. It had been, what, four years since they had had new material out, and everyone expected the same old, same old, from them, but they came right out of left field with a very angry, very inspired album. I respect that, but it just lacks that something that How to Clean Everything had. best of 2001...easy.- fathead Some of the people that are reviewing literally need psychological help. This album blew me away the first time I heard it. Propagandhi is one of the most professional bands out there today. The multimedia on this cd is amazing. Even with prior knowledge about American foreign policy, this will open up your eyes, and if it doesn't you are probably a facsist. The music is straightforward amd punctuated with bursts of power chords and timed screams. Amazing stuff. I like Propaghandi, but not their message. I do agree that their older stuff is better, too. Also, I would be able to stand vegans if they just lived their lives and didn't try to make everyone else feel guilty. Run you own fucking life, not everyone else's. sorry, i ate propagandhi. they no longer exist. mmmmm.......vegan music. Does no one realize these guys are totally the wrong gender? Seriously, Propaghandi is like taking a fucking grrlrock band and slapping on a few cocks and bad haircuts. I don't mean to be closed-minded, but there a few things guys just cannot do and angry chick music is one of them. I think they all need serious help in figuring themselves out, or perhaps some surgery. They are all very unstable. If anyone knows where they can find a good support group, please help me contact them. there is a lot of screaming, but it's not all screaming. there is singing too. their message is probably the most relevant and accurate of this day and age. at least they stand for something.- fathead Actually, take it to the AFI albums, please. GOD, PLEASE SHUT UP LARRY. TAKE YOUR STUPID, POINTLESS COMENTS TO THE SUM41 and BLINK 182 REVIEWS, WHERE THEY BELONG. YOU'RE NOT FUNNY! This cd kind of reminded me that were all in this together and no matter what hapens, we should always help out our fellow americans (and canadians). Well, all except AFI and The Strike. Have you heard The Strike? Man, it doesn't get much worse than that. Come to think of it, Propagandhi kind of reminds me of The Strike. Hmmmm..... Propagandhi is so weak. They don't even begin to compare to the hardcore power of greenday. Fuck propagandhi. very good...a little hard but still lots of politics and whatnot...especizlly liked the song todays empires tomorrows ashes...and back to the motor league.........so you should check this out....later Propaghandi are going to hell when they die and so are all of you. What an indadequate review. i own the cd, and i love it. i like the quotes in the book. and the songs reflect the inner child of those who i quote"in the corner in sweat pants" one word: perfection! Best punk rock band ever. it truely doesn't get any better than this. this buries all the classics. the best record released in the last ten years, if not ever. fuckin' A. Interesting way to put it, fathead, but funny as hell! Just bought the CD today. Awesome. One of the best Fat bands out there. Eh, maybe a little less time on the multimedia and more on the music.. This was a review of the cd, but the extras were exactly that, extras. 90% of the populace will buy this for music, and then discover the extras, not the other way round. Therefore, perhaps you should have reviewed the music a little more too... My apologies, I meant to respond to the poster second from the bottom. In response to the anonymous poster two messages above me: El mejor cd del 2001... y el mejor de Propagandhi... how is it that dashboard confessional managed a better review than this, and sum 41 was reviewed equally. what the hell kind of people are doing these reviews? *cough*girls*cough*. Really great album, definately one of the best ones released in 2000. this album broke into my house, kicked my ass, and fucked my mom. nothing short of unbelievable. all you blink41 fans should take a step in the right direction and get this album.- fathead This is one of the best albums all year...fucking great! Tight, melodic, thrashing, pissed off shit with an agenda and no apologies about it. i found the review fair except for the part about how there's only a handful of activist/anarchy bands. it's obvious you are not into any activism (which is ok!) but if you were, there are lot to be found. you just need to know where to look. if you look around, we need bands like this raising awareness more than ever. 5 fucking stars w/ out a doubt even though their first three cds are a little better! How you could give this CD a 3.5 and shit like Osker and H2O 4 ratings is beyond me. This is an amazing CD even if your not into poltical music. the explanation is simple, the reviewer for good charolotte was held at gun point, and the reviewer for propaghandi hasn't heard this cd yet. I really don't see how this site can give this only 4.5 and then give Good Charlotte 5. Only two words for this album: i love bullshit polliticions.so true, so true. i just heard this album, and damn, it one helluva cd. Propagandhi rules. This cd is the bomb-diggity. There are a few moments that could be better (Natural Disasters) but the enhanced cd portion is absolutely mind-blowing. Propagandhi have been dealing with extremely sketchy tour bookers lately and I am totally disappointed in both them and Smallman records. If you need more info ask me, this ain't no shit talking. So much for the revolutionary political issues they try to raise... it's all about the show business. |
