| Death By Stereo / Over My Dead Bodylive in Richmond, VA2003 live show Review by: Chris See others by this writer Only registered users can post comments Published on June 27th 2003
If one truly positive experience, and one horrifically negative experience collide, which will set the opinion one has of an event? Little did I know this would come to fruition as I went to see Death by Stereo at good ole' Alley Katz. Please login or register to post comments. If the guy below me is really a band member I would like to let you know that you had no place on this tour because Death By Stereo is 1000 times the band you guys are. Thank You. i don't know why anyone would care to read this so long after the fact but someone read this review and told me about it so i wanted to check it out. i play in over my dead body and just wanted to say that our intentions have obviously been grossly misinterpreted in this situation. yes we're a straightedge band and no that doesn't mean we have any negative feelings whatsoever toward people that aren't. we sing about sxe cause it's something we believe in and we damn sure don't try to exclude anyone at our shows. we mention at least once at every show that we're not there to exclude anyone. if we were that militant about it then we certainly wouldn't tour with our good friends death by stereo who are, for the most part, polar oppisites when it comes to narcotics. so everyone just calm down. it's rare that you're gonna go to a show where you like every single band but that doesn't mean you have to bash bands that you're not into. death by stereo and ourselves are simply good friends that thought it would be fun to do a diverse tour and hopefully some people appreciated that. thanks for reading. Yo I've never been to a show where a band has gone on and on about drinking and drugs and then heard a straight edge kid complain about it. It's only when a straight edge bands talks about being straight edge does anyone ever complain. For being sxe the lead singer of OMDB has one helluva beer gut. I really hate to keep posting on my own review....well, no I don't. But I just thought of something. Someone a few posts down said I was insecure of seomthing like that, but I'm not the one labeling myself "drinker" or "drug-user" or what-have-you. Before my newborn son's 18th birthday I swear some straight edger will have started a straight edge church. The First Church Of Mackaye or some shit like that. You people are turning it into a religion. Just like every other religion it's nothing more than a crutch. Living a healthy lifestyle is one thing, constantly preaching about it is another. Anyone else a little disappointed with Death By Stereo's new cd? It's good, but it seems like it's missing something.... Well, -c..... sickboi, quit crying. sxe is a personal choice that is very important to each of them. if it's not for you thats fine. if you were in a band i'm sure they would support you going up there and talking about how straight edge is not for you. they use their music to explain why they feel like they do...there's no presumption that other people should agree or change because of it. Somehow I have more respect for the bands that are sXe, and don't talk about it, if it is a personal choice, then keep it to yourself jackasses. Don't get me wrong kids. I don't mind if you don't drink or do drugs, because honestly, some people just shouldn't touch either. But god damn. You people make this whole SXE thing into some kind of cult. Its absurd. Basing your life on the ideals of "poison-free" is just as shallow as the people who you say make the wrong choices. Its fine to to be clean, but why must there be a "scene" to go with it? Lame. I think the reviewer is the ignorant one. Did he stop to think that maybe OMDB IS doing it for the straight edge kids and NOT for him? Thats the way I see it, if you don't like it then don't listen to the music, bitch. am i the only one who can't STAND dbs's vocals? hahahahahhahahahahahahaha. Give it up kids, i dont whinge when T(i)NC get on stage and talk politics or when dropkick murphys talk about getting Shitfaced. Here's a solution to this problem: Everyone just smoke a big fat doober! Thats what I wanted to tell OMDB when they kept saying shit about "drug free adults" or whatever. Fuck those guys. They didn't even sound good at all. Death for life! That sounds like Anti-Flag. I live around Pittsburgh and I never picked up a cool British accent like they did, I feel cheated. Over my dead body will I listen to this feces anymore. It gave herpes to my migraine. Death by Death by Stereo is the execution method that almost-ALMOST-surpasses the Electric Slide. Do yourself a favor and castrate yourself now before this excrement can seep into your impressionable minds. You really aren't missing much, but it is amusing to hear them dedicate every song to being drunk. That and they are from what, NYC, and yet they sound like they have thick british accents. 2nd worst crowd I've ever been involved with was at a casualties show. Liberty spikes, leather jackets, and studs everywhere...now tell me something, why the hell would you wear a leather jacket in the middle of August in Phoenix? I've never seen the Casualties live and I plan to keep it that way. "It would be just as annoying for a band to say "this is for the drinkers in the audience!" over and over." Drinking and alcoholism aren't one in the same. "seriously, on every "real" show i go to at least one bands say something about "yeah, this is for the people who are wasted" or something in that line atleast 3-4 times" i think drive thru records should buy the copyrights on beer. No amount of preaching will ever stop me from downing beers and smoking joints at shows, period. Death by stereo are fucking amazing and more people should come to their shows. dude, are you saying alcolism isn't a world problem? Not drinking and world problems are 2 very different things my friend. "It would be just as annoying for a band to say "this is for the drinkers in the audience!" over and over." I was gonna say the EXACT same thing. But check this.....have you ever heard of beating someone up for not drinking? I haven't.... I don't care if someone is straight edge or not, just don't bring it up every five seconds. It would be just as annoying for a band to say "this is for the drinkers in the audience!" over and over. It seems none of you know a thing about Over My Dead Body, or Straight Edge. There is already a culture built around straight edge and it has been here for many years. Over My Dead Body are a great positive hardcore band, so what if they gave shout outs to the Straight Edge kids in the house. None of the comments you quoted were militant or offensive. As for the thug core comment if you listened to an Over My Dead Body cd you would know there against that. I urge you all to give this band a chance... do not just ignorantly turn your noses at them because they've mad choices in there life that are different than yours. it's pretty fucking sick that not wanting to hear other people's opinions must equate to obnoxiousness. Who gives a shit if you did or didn't want to hear about sXe - what's wrong a band or any kind of entertainer speaking their mind and their passions. Forty and Sickboi's shallowness is disturbing... OMDB were obnoxious when they played here. Not so much musically, but like sickboi said, "Straight edge this, straight edge that" first of all, thug rock? dumbass.this aint skarhead.its more of a posi type of core. as of the sxe thing, i would rather listen to somebosy talk about their chosen lifestyle then whine about girls, ala most of the mall pop punk emo garbage that is being churned out. omdb is a great band, im an alki and i would still rather listen yo this or better than 1000 any day as compared to taking back sunday or whatever flavour of the week you nerds are into. if you're quoting "jay/silent" bob movie quotes then Hotwire loves the cock. just another damn used clone. OMDB wasn't too bad at the nyc show but then again those drug-free speeches can really get on your nerves just like goldfinger always spreading the message of vegans at their shows. DBS was worth the money and just a lil fact, i was up their screaming with efrem on the "patriot punx." a big 10 for DBS. Amen to the unity thing. You see straight edge divisions at shows quite a bit now and usually I would get pissed off but I'm so piss-drunk I can't do much but smile. Is the guitarist from Boxcar Racer still in OMDB? Wow, the guy below Forty sure is putting that "word of the day" calendar to use.....bravo! "I say this, only because of the continuing antics onstage of "This one goes out to all the kids who stay drug-free" or "Here's one for the straight edge kids." You know what? I paid money to see the show, I don't mind how you feel, but to cause division amongst fans, to send songs out to only the kids who don't like a certain type of beverage, fuck you. Take your fucking whack-ass religion elsewhere. Whatever happened to unity and positivity? All this pseudo-scene of "edge" does is promote a further division amongst those who drink, and those who don't. Is your life that meaningless that you have to constantly scream about being edge? Move the fuck on, build a model, collect stamps.....fucking christ." wow Sickboi - great to see that your reviews are just as insular as your typical msg. board comments. congrats! Keep em coming kids, its gonna be a boring day at work, I need something to read to pass the time. You the reviewer are a fucking moron. This is by far the worst fucking review ive ever read in my life. Serious dude, you suck at life, just go die. Well, thats good to know, it just wasn't the impression I got. uhhhh... if you knew anyhing about OMDB you'd know that they are against thug hardcore and against the division of sxe and non sxe kids. they've written a few songs about it. they are very much about unity within the scene and banding together for a common cause. that being said, they are sxe and are proud to be so... i guess you simply write and speak about what you believe in. Haywire is a Canadian 80's hair band. Good to see that they are still bringin' it. I saw them at some town fair back in the day. DeathByStereo is jock rock crap, (sorry). And Scott, you cut out my begining note. Bah, I have no clue who they are. But change the name if you like. Thanks. I believe the band is called Hotwire, not Haywire, but I'm not 100% sure [since we don't have a pop-up ad shilling their album every time you come to this website]. |
