Over the last two years, bands such as Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, and New Found Glory have helped shove punk right down mainstream America's throat, with their pretty faces plastered all over MTV's hit show TRL with Carson Daly. Unfortunately, Pop-punk, as this sugar coated music came to be known, wasn't accepted by everyone in the punk community. Cincinnati, Ohio pop-punk outfit Harley Quin embraced this widespread movement, and it shows on their debut full-length, I've Got A Bad Feeling About This.

Not that this is necessarily a bad thing...

The 12-track disc is filled with sugary harmonies, that will have you nodding your head, and singing right along for the next thirty minutes. All the cliches of pop-punk are there including songs about falling in love, songs about falling out of love, and songs about summertime.

Standout tracks include "Without You", "One Last Summer", and "No Immediate Consequence." Evan Sharfe's vocals, albeit a bit whiny, work rather well for Harley Quin as his voice stands out on almost every track. Never over processed, I've Got A Bad Feeling About This is solid from beginning to end.

Also, Mark Lienhart's crisp drumming really seems to stand out on most tracks. Mitch Wyatt, a music engineer from the Cincinnati area, did a great job mixing the album. After listening to the album thoroughly, I would have never guessed that this album was mixed locally. Hell, it sounds like something from Drive- Thru Records lineup of bands such as The Starting Line, and Allister.

And the point is: Pop-punk fans will love every second of this album, as I did... but beware pretentious indie rockers: RUN FOR YOUR LIFE.

The record is available at the band's website, along with mp3 clips: www.harleyquinrock.com

wow, people are ignorant. Do you realize how hard it is to put out an album and to get into the business? You don't or u wouldn't make those kinds of comments. I think HQ is doing a pretty damn good job. Instead of judging based on what your preference is, open your mind and your ears and listen to THEIR music for what it really is. They are making the music for themselves and for the fans not for you assholes. You guys keep up with the hard work. Mark's drumming talent is kick ass and the vocals rock. The mixing sounds professional and im really impressed with the overall product.

really fucking aweful. i doubt any girl wants your hoodie

    Anonymous (October 3, 2003)

the cd sux really freaking annoying and the guitar parts are cut straight out of blink 182 songs. i'm glad i burned this cd.

    Anonymous (October 2, 2003)

From the sound of one of the mp3's, this sounds good but sounds exactly like this band i listen to in the late 90's called Funsize.

and there is nothing wrong with that but it is nothing really new from what i can tell.

    Anonymous (October 1, 2003)

damn this disc rocks. Kinda like blink but not super poppy and overproduced. It'll give the emo kids a run for their money.

Not a filler on this disk! It rocks. The production and mixing is great on it as well.

    Anonymous (October 1, 2003)

oh man this band is so bad

    Anonymous (September 30, 2003)

This is Erik from On Side Red. I appreciate the compliment, and the guys in DIG are friends of ours, but so are the HQ guys. That was a pretty dick remark. While I don't agree with it, you have every right to say it. Water under the bridge now.
As for reviewing our music, we honestly don't have anything new out except what we did for the Warped Tour. We should have something new for the holidays though.
The order for the Mustard Plug show at The Void back in February was Deceiving Ralph, On Side Red, Allister, Mustard Plug (a very drunk and sloppy Mustard Plug.)
Hope that clears up any confusion. Later.

    NoUse (September 30, 2003)

Also... On Side Red only has released demo's so far, and I've never heard of Keystoned.

Other good Cincy bands are Mint 6 Ten, Junior Revolution, Thistle, and The Light Wires.. Well, a bunch more too.

look at the review section... They posted my Death In Graceland (DIG) last week and it is still in the column on the right.

    Anonymous (September 30, 2003)

why dont you review a good cincinnati band like On Side Red or D.I.G, or even Keystoned makes better shit than this

    NoUse (September 30, 2003)

yeh, that girl is hot.. the website, www.harleyquinrock.com has more pictures.

also- to the guy a few down. how is the cover a poor attempt to look punk? it is a picture of a school girl in her uniform.

    Anonymous (September 30, 2003)

Hey whats up, This is Mark. I play drums in HQ. I just wanted to let everyone know a few things.
    1. we have never played with mustard plug.
    2. no one in this band is 14, or under 18 for that matter. im 22, evan is 21 and jamie is 19.
    3. that is a girl on the cover, she is the same girl on our website. (www.harleyquinrock.com) so, hand over that $10. hahaha

    cool, thanks.

    Anonymous (September 30, 2003)

    Anonymous (September 30, 2003)

you guys are really assholes. judge a book by its cover...sweet. way to be "punk"...

    Anonymous (September 30, 2003)

All the ingredients to a pop punk cover:

    A girl

    A fashion model pose

A poor attempt to look "punk"
