Labelling Decibully as ex-Promise Ring is rather misleading - sure, William Seidel and Ryan Weber were both in the last incarnation of The Promise Ring, but Weber was merely their millionth bassist and Seidel simply did backup vocals and auxillary percussion. Not exactly the heart and soul of the band [although former TPR guitarist Jason Gnewikow used to play drums for Decibully but left the septet shortly before the recording of this album]. So while it is a tad bit shady to call the band ex-Promise Ring, one can go one step further [and stranger] by labelling them ex-Since By Man, as guitarist W. Kenneth Seibert used to be in the Milwaukee progressive hardcore group. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
I saw them live at sxsw and they did the best ones from this cd, and I have to say they were really one of the best bands there. I suggest everyone go out and support these guys. I also like all the neat instruments they used , it was like they had a bucket of things they used in each song. They are very different and thats what I like At first I thought the cd cover was of a jail. But when I looked at it, I saw that it was more of a fun-fair type setting. I've been downloading the MP3's for the past hour or so, (slow, slow ass computer), and I've heard a couple of them so far. It's actually pretty damn good. Weakerthans showing new Promise Ring how it's done, sort of. Don't get me wrong I really liked the new Promise Ring and this is definetly influenced by Wood/Water, (or maybe Wood/Water was influenced by this?), but it also has that sort of down home Weakerthans feel. And yes a little Death Cab or even Postal Service with the electronic touches. Mind you the electronic influence is very minimal and from what I can tell used only to fill a song out or take a standard riff and make it a little more interesting. The vocals aren't as grating as I thought they would be either. All in all I'm impressed. On The Way To Your Hotel is perfection. I'll have to hear some more from this record to determine what I think though. Yeah, Camben is in England. I went shopping there once. It's called Camden Market, and it's really cool they're not FROM Camden you fag. It's cool that they're from Camden, but it would have been way cooler had they been from Compton. I know i will be crucified for this...but from what i've heard of them they are comparable to death cab, but maybe better best week for reviews in a long time......its about time |
