”Now the skies such a sweet blue, you made this come true. My heart feels so new, whoa...It’s now wonderful to see beautiful views. Like skies that are so blue, whoa, whoa! I'll never leave us you know!” - The Rocket Summer

Whether it’s on a hamburger, a cracker, taco, or just by itself cheese is the best condiment ever.

And that’s just what the Rocket Summer’s debut full length “Calendar Days” is – Cheesy.

Ever hear of Dashboard Confessional? Are you familiar with Onelinedrawing? Perhaps you know who the New Amsterdams are? Well that’s where Bryce Avary’s solo project fits in. A few more cute little love songs spilt out over acoustic guitar melodies and that’s not a bad thing!

Picking up the acoustic guitar and doing your own thing is as popular as screaming in music these days. Even though it’s becoming redundant the Rocket Summer pulls things of well. In addition to just acoustic tunes, Avary applies his talents to the drums and keyboards to brighten the mood up some. He was also able to get a 42-piece 6th grade girls choir group to apply vocals to the song “What We Hate, We Make” and it’s surprisingly good. Lyrics are just what you’d expect from a pop-rock record like this, but they’re cute and fun, just like the music itself.

Don’t expect to be blown away by the simplicity of the record. The guy is just out to have a good time and that’s just how you’ll feel after listening to “Calendar Days.”

yeah, im a long time TRS fan and i guess he can't please everyone. I personally find his album quite pleasing besides a few cheesy lines here and there. But thats ok, its good quality music to sing along to and brighten your mood. I guess what I mean is, cheese can be very good, any style.

    My Score:

I personally love The Rocket Summer. Even if it can get a bit cheesy, it can put you in a great mood, and some of the songs have some good meaning- "Skies So Blue" is deticated to and written to the memory of Beth Dupertis. The song is about learning to be happy again after someones death. And by the way, the line is "I'll never leave THIS you know."

Back to cheesiness- who really cares? Its not extremely overdone, and maybe the songs are they way they are because Bryce writes them from his own thoughts and feelings. He is extremely talented, not only playing every instrument on the cd, but he writes it and sings it all as well. He doesn't sound horrible live, he sounds almost exactly like he does on the cd, all the while dancing around like crazy. He's one of the most talented guys I've ever had the pleasure to meet(and yes, I HAVE actually met him). He's extremely nice and just writes his music to make HIMSELF happy- so who are you to complain about cheesiness?

Oh, and the confetti guns rocked.

You're absolutely right. The best condiments are those that you can eat by themselves...and not be considered weird.

I love the first song on this CD. There's some other gems on here too, but there definitely is a lot of cheese on this CD.

His live show is ridiculously over the top, as well. He has two girls that shoot confetti cannons during his set, it's mad crazy.

The girls are hot, though, so I'll allow it.
