There are a few geniuses in punk rock and Ben Weasel is definitely one of them. Whether it's in Screeching Weasel, The Riverdales, or his solo shit the man can write a kick ass tune and he has been doing it for years. Television City Dream is a bit of a change for Screeching Weasel. Gone are the Dan's (Vapid and Panic) and on board are Mass Giorgini and Dan Lumley as well as some dude who has not been seen or heard from since. As a longtime Weasel fan I have to say I was a bit skeptical at first since the Dan's have been there for most of Screeching Weasel's best days... but the newcomers do a great job and TVCD is actually a pretty fantastic album.

Another bit of a change is TVCD is a total mix of punk compared to "Bark Like a Dog", their last full length album which was almost all straight up pop punk. With this album Screeching Weasel is back with their fast and furious songs which you will notice right away with the opener "Count to Three". There is also the sequence of "Plastic Bag", "I Don't Give a Fuck", and "Only a Test", all of which clock in at under a minute. But of course there is also the poppy punk that Screeching Weasel made famous. Gems on this album include "Outside of You", "Burn it Down" and one of the best Weasel tunes of all time "Speed of Mutation".

This album is a great mix of songs and has some great lyrics. It's good to see Screeching Weasel back with some bite and attitude which this album provides. While it might not be their best album it is certainly a great album and a solid release.

This was just recently reviewed. Cool. When I first listened to Sw I was in 7th grade and my buddy bought "Bark Like A Dog" cause we knew they were a punk band. We knew shit. He hated it (or maybe just didn't like it that much), but I fell in love.

    My Score:

Honestly, the production on this album steals it. "My Brain Hurts" and "Anthem for a New Tomorrow"are right there, but there is just something about this album thats almost, well, magical. Whenever I here 'Count to Three' lead into "Speed of Mutation' I get shivers. Every drum beat, ever chord, every snooty croon from Ben, man it all sounds soooo perfect. I have even referred to this as the best PRODUCTION I have ever heard on an album. And I'm not even a rabid SW fan.

Dan Vapid sings and plays guitar in the Methadones. THey are really good. Although they don't sound like screeching weasel, they are definitely worth checking out if you like sw, because you will probably like them. THeir two albums are really differenct from each, so just check them out

Great album, kind of has a "Major Label Debut" feel (which was only recorded a few months before TCD). I've always liked SW at their fastest and most clever, and this album has alot of thoes types of songs.

Is there anyone here who's favourite SW record is Bark Like A Dog?
    Just curious.
I don't think it's a bad album--I wasn't even bothered by the fact that 9o% of it is drum-driven pop. But everytime I pop it in, I end up cracking back open the CD player and throwing in Teen Punks or Emo instead.

Um, i don't believe i said anything they did after was crap - did i??
Anyway, the other post I put something like SW=Love...All their records are wonderful - I even love their BEAT ON THE BRAT LP. Awesome. I just like Boogada because it's pretty hardcore. But again, so i'm not unclear - i love the Ramones-influenced pop-punk too. Riverdales=Love too.

"what the hell is with the lyrics to Nicaragua?"

Sure the lyrics may reek of apathy and shit, but you're talking about a song on a CD that's only one track away from another one called "I Wanna Be Naked". Or howwa 'bout the classic "Mad At The Paper Boy", or "I Love To Hate", and better yet "Used Cars"?
Point is, don't take to heart everything you hear in a stupid punk song. I seriously doubt Ben Weasel stands by these lyrics today, and wouldn't care if Nicaragua was blown to bits tonight. It's just a song about being fed up with hearing about Nicaragua. Keep in mind, Ben Weasel was about 16 when he wrote most of these lyrics. Nothing to worry about here. File this one next to DESCENDENTS' "I Wanna Be A Bear". Gotta love those stupid punk tunes.

what the hell is with the lyrics to Nicaragua? from what i remember, there was crap like "i dont give a fuck about nicaragua" and "i dont give a shit" about this and that...those lyrics have always pissed me off... "suburban white kids trying to show theyve got compassion", i mean, thats funny, but if you think about the attack in any depth its fucking stupid.

    Why?"
    -Janelle

    JANELLE,
    It's because BOOGADAx3 isn't Screeching Weasel.
Sure, the tunes were written by Ben Weasel. And yes, it's a good record. But to say it was their best--come on, now. Screeching Weasel wrote Ramones-inspired tunes, and they were better off doing just that. Even before reforming after their first break-up, Ben told SW that:
(paraphrased)"The only way we get back together is if we all promise to stick to the RAMONES-inspired tunes."
    Boogada wasn't Ramones-inspired.
Now I recognize and respect that your opinion says BOOGADAx3 should be SW's most-mentioned record, but to say that it was their best is to say anything they did after was crap. Why? Because BOOGADAx3 would have been easily passed off with another band's name on the cover.
    -MATEO D'CAY
    PS-
"Teen Punks In Heat" was their best.

This album is decent, but I would have to rate "Wiggle" as my favorite and "My Brain Hurts" a close #2. I like both bands, but Blink owes these guys everything. Also, the "Boogada" album cover T-shirt is probably one of the best I ever owned. It was plain, but that weasel face with the leather jacket fucking ruled.
