A Psychological Anaylsis of No Motiv's Daylight Breaking and How Past Emotions of Releases Led to It

Preface

This study is a mere attempt at analyzing No Motiv's newest album and how his past emotions have progressed positively to this point. The three main parts rely mostly on pure description, but offer anaylsis in the dealing of the subject as (1) his basic past emotions, (2) this line of emotions and why it came to this point, (3) the current state of affairs.

No Motiv - His basic past emotions
Dwelling in cynicism [Cynical] and resultant trauma [Scarred], the subject's early, basic mindset was that of starkly negative overtones that offered minute signs of hope. After this period of misanthropic scarring, depression [...And the Sadness Prevailed] immediately followed. An era of reconstruction [Diagram for Healing] eventually followed.

The anaylsis of this line of emotions and why it came to this point
There was a trend in the emotions that were showing normal graduation, in both senses of the word. Placing the cynical outlook on life led to the trauma, and sadness followed. It was a normal pattern, so sadness following should have been expected. The reconstruction was the first sign of positivity, and represents on a smaller, metaphorical scale the real-life trend. It was perfectly normal for the reconstruction of emotions to follow.

The current state of affairs
In regards to the title, Daylight Breaking offers recurring hope. The subject attempts conveying a more positive outlook, yet puts melodies across in songs that clash in moods. These said moods divide into two main stables; (1) upbeat, capturing happy motivation (see: "Robot Eyes," "Life Goes On"), and (2) seamlessly captivating harshness (see: "Death in #'s," "Audition"). All emotions are framed by fluid, restrained rock tempos (see: "Independence Day," "Brand New Day") that the subject had shown previous to current work. Tendencies of speaking in extrovert manners, or less personal foundations, are no longer mainstay; the subject wishes to acknowledge more widespread mannerisms. The subject appears to work magic at times (see: layered harmonies in "Grey Notes Fall," swiftly mercurial dynamics in "Death in #'s," surprise keyboard in "Life Goes On," hushed vocals mixed with haunting whispers over a solemn bass line and swirling guitars in "Audition"). Maturity is shown stronger than ever, by way of lyrics, musicianship, and variation shown. Overall progress subject has shown may prove to be best effort yet.

ok grammer fag. and age does usually matter, theres literature supporting that. throughout the history of rock music, the best bands have written their best works in their mid to late 20's, after that it usually goes down hill, gets boring, stagnant, redundant or overly experimental. and before that it is usually undeveloped and immature sounding. look through your cd collection and tell me otherwise, there are exceptions, but overall, mid 20's is the best time for songwriting, look at the beatles.

i think the review is really good. its obvious he is a fan of the band, and he is familiar enough with the old material to see the connection. he is just trying to comment on the bands progression (which is hard enough to do given that each one of their albums have different sounds and themes). the psychobabble may have been a little too much, but it doesn't replace the fact that the review is solid and full of content. i liked it almost as much as i like this album. i bought it yesterday, and its amazing.

to the guy complaining about brand new day... the first real version they recorded for the album (after the demo) was actually much slower and less punchy. the label then asked them to go back and re-record the song for a more radio friendly sound... and when it comes down to it, thats what the final album version of the song is. i actually think the demo sounded way too poppy (seeing how it was produced by john feldmann of goldfinger). i think they definitely nailed it on the album.

For fuck's sake! I have no issue with Inagreendase's reviews, however I would really prefer some greater variety with the new batch of reviews! While I have no problem with them, I will admit that his writing is not exactly that favorable to myself personally; I really am a greater fan of the work from other staff reviewers. Now I know this is not quite my place as no service is owed to me, and that other reviewers may not have as much time, but really, lately the new reviews seem to be dominated by a noteable amount of user submitted reviews spliced with a few from Inagreendase.

These dudes put songs together much more effectively than Hey Mercedes. Both bands are great, but I'd have to give the edge to No Motiv.

    three observations:

    1. i couldn't tell you which was worse, hearing the latest offspring or this on the x-games.

    2. whoever made the point about vagrant's promotional decisions is right, these guys don't get any attention - its because vagrant realizes that they have to promote better albums like the new get up kids offering more than this. ugh.

    3. well, when i think about it, this isn't the horrible offspring song that i kept hearing on the x-games. so that's a plus.

I like the record. Just bought it today.

I'm just extremely disappointed in the new mix/recording of 'Brand New Day.' The original version that has been out for the past year or so (on the Vagrant DVD and sampler) was much more intense than the one on this record. Great song. Horrible weak mix.

'Into The Darkness' and 'Laid To Rest' border on Hoobastank territory. That's kinda scary. That's not exactly what I expected. Thank god it's just evident on these 2 songs.

Overall, I think it rocks. My anticipation was so insane for this though that I must say that it didn't live up to all of my expectations. I'll get over it.

yea i have a degree in psych from pitt, your review rely's heavily on bullshit. definately wouldnt fly as a real psychoanalysis.

as for no motiv, their first album sucked both in recording quality and bland songwriting save maybe 'the waiting hurt' or 'nostalgia'

the second album was better, but many of the songs again seemed to fall flat and some of the more 'rockin' songs sounded like face to face covers with a different singer (maybe something to do with trevor keith producing it), however, 'throw in the towel' and 'get a life' blew anything off the first album out of the water and there were a handful of other strong tracks, but i would put them a tier below other dark emo pop bands (maybe in the same tier as hot rod circuit or moneen...hmm, vagrant records) but not in the same tier as say, saves the day or get up kids or alk3 (vagrant again kids)

i might pick this up out of curiosity to see if they delivered on the potential heard on their last album, their 24 now and should be coming into their own as songwriters.
