This abum has everything that it takes to be huge with 16-year olds nationwide. 4 kinda good looking guys playing 11 tracks of slightly-better-than-average emo-rock. The rocking opening track is there. The slower "ballads" are interspersed throughout the album. The vocals are perfectly in tune. The lyrics are appropriately vague, for a reason - are they talking about girls or Jesus?

Oh yeah, this band is Christian. But it's so subtle, you'd have a hard time noticing, if it wasn't for the fact that this release is on a Christian-only label.

The whole CD leaves a bad taste in my mouth. This is just another sign of the Christian community trying to take a commercially successful medium with youth and adapt it to help spread their "message." When it comes down to it, this band is just the Christian version of Counterfit [but nowhere near as good]. There's no real point to this CD. It's simply white noise, neither good nor bad. I suppose if you're someone who loves this genre, but is looking for a more spritual interaction with the music, this is for you. Otherwise, pass.

I just got the following email:

    "To Whom This May Concern-
My name is Kyle Circle and I manage a band you may or may not have heard of called Number One Gun. They are a indie rock band with influences that of Brand New, Further Seems Forever & Hey Mercedes from Chico, CA which is near Sacramento, CA. NOG played 262 shows nationwide last year which included touring with such bands as Acceptance, Noise Ratchet, Cool Hand Luke, Watashi Wa, Emery and also a tour with Don't Look Down, Anberlin & Relient K. They released their first national release "Celebrate Mistakes" in August of 2003 on an indie label Floodgate/Salvage Records with distribution through Warner Brothers. They have had 2 natioanl radio singles top the R&R charts as well as a music video for their latest single "Starting Line" to be released to MTV, MTV2, VH1, and FUSE in late February. The bands website is www.numberonegun.com where you can check out MP3's of the band. There you will find a fresh sound set apart from anything else you have heard before. The reason I'm writing you is to seek your interest in possibly doing a review on the bands most recent release or possibly an interview with the band. Also if you see that the band is touring through your area let me know and I'll put you on the guest list and you could do a live review of the band. Many respectable newspapers nationawide have dubbed Number One Gun a band to watch closly in 2004. Also I would be interested in seeing if you have an online store that sells music to possibly add NOG to your roster. If you would like to hear any further music than what is available on the website just let me know and I'll send you a CD for a review or for just your listening pleasure. Look forward to possibly working together. Your website is very impressive.

heh, your statement sounded more 'conformist' than the groups you are saying to avoid. way to go.

as for this review, fuck this cd. i'd rather suck my own ass than hear about jesus.

So yeah join punk and embrace the restraints of some other people in funny clothes? Fuck religion and fuck the scene... Two conformist bull shit things...

Christian punk bands are a waste cause if you're christian ou believe in boudaries and control....two things real punk rock is aggressively against. Mellow rock maybe....but nothing else.

    noreply (January 30, 2004)

this band makes me want to upload all over their interface.

hrmm, i wonder if you goto hell for making a semi-sexual comment about a christian band.

I know that band Discharge scares the shit out of me... What a scary name to have for a band.

Whether or not this band is a Christian band I don't care, because it's really about the music.

But the question that's staring me in the face is why are they called "Number One Gun"...creepy.

    dazed (January 30, 2004)

Jesus wants you to put it on a cop car's windshield.

Yeah! Go Scott! The fact that you reviewed this thing means I don't have to. This score's for you!

But now the question is what to do with my big Number One Gun sticker that came with the CD! Oh the possibilities!
