This is it, right here. This is what the Midwest is all about. I'm proud of where I'm from, but at the same time, I know we're the armpit of America. Black Print has captured the angst of living in said armpit, and is lashing out with this, their 5-song EP on Quincy Shanks Records.

The band features members of John Brown Battery, The 4-Squares, and Last Day Parade, but don't expect your basic punk rock formula. The songs are well crafted melodic post-hardcore that bring to mind some of the best of their subgenre, like Small Brown Bike or perhaps the Ghost.

Vocally, the singer of Black Print sounds like he's been smoking since the womb, blasting lyrics like "Wash your hands off / my blood will stain" through his shredded vocal chords. You can't help but be affected.

This hits hard and hits deep. This is real. This is the dark side of Chicago, captured on a single compact disc. You owe it to yourself to indulge in Black Print.

Nice chaps, they be. I felt really bad when they played in NC and grand total of ten people actually showed up. Blasted Alli With An I! I love "Small Disguise" but the rest of the tracks are a bit lacking. They're not horrible, by any means, but just a let down compared to "Small Disguise".

I live in MO, I must say that it is a piece of shit. Also, my used to inhabit the KC slums... Yeah, in fact my aunt is the mayor of KC, K... I don't live there so she didn't let my dad have a nice job.

The midwest is a terrible place to locate your family.

Hey Scott, I'm a midwesterner too, and I know that the residents of indiana and ohio give us a bad name, but how can the southeast NOT be the armpit of the country? No wait, maybe we ARE the armpit, but they're the asscrack.

Black Widows/Black Cross, Paint it Black, None More Black and I'm sure a million others from the past year I'm forgetting.

We need to have a "black band" fest, either in Philidelphia or somewhere in Ohio, and then tell everybody to get a bit more fucking creative with their band names.

I saw this band one time and Nick was exerting so much energy he puked off to the side of the stage, while still playing his guitar and then continued to rock out.

their singer's voice annoys the hell out of me though.

I saw Black Print play at Small Brown Bike's second to last show, they were okay. Almost typical contemporary emocore, but with lots of energy.

I can see the Ghost comparison, but really that's the only thing you mentioned that reminds me of music in your Chicago review. I enjoyed the mp3, though.

    Scott, that shit was pointless.
