Maxeen / Don't Look Down / Somersetlive in Galesburg (2004)Side One Dummy Records Reviewer Rating: Contributed by: Scott (others by this writer | submit your own) Published on April 13th 2004
It's funny. No matter how far in the middle of nowhere a show might be, or how few people might be in attendance, there will always be "that guy." Last night at Knox College in tiny Galesburg, Illinois, out of the 30 or so people who came to watch the rock show, one was proudly wearing a Maxeen shirt. Amazing. I hate 'that guy', im in a town with nothing but 'that guys'. Yes I said 'that guys'. You know, I actually don't see "that guy" very often at shows at all. Really the only time I see them is at Tsunami Bomb shows, where there are always groups of chicks wearing their shirts. i still think that the vocalist from somerset sounds an awful lot like the guy from fenix tx don't look down is such a terrible band i was unfortunate enough to see them at local shows all too often a few years ago in south jersey. somerset is amazing. incredible good i checked em out at warped last summer, and they ruled. even though the singer was a little bit done by the end of the set they were definetly worthy of the title best unsigned band in north america kirby, Um...I thought Don't Look Down was becoming even more poppier with their music. 2/3 years ago I enjoyed them, now I proclaim them the next Simple Plan...sounds like Thrice...hah! kirby, Maxeen BLOWS!!!! and for anyone else otu there who plys the new MVP baseball on a regular basis, you know what I'm talkin about. Every time i hear that song, I want to poke out my ear drums with a pencil. Christ, thats an annoying song. maxeen gives me the chills. in a good way. please is one of my favorite songs ever. That's lame, because I think "Delete Lola" is probably my favorite off their album. http://home.comcast.net/~baglunch2/shows.html Yes, Galesburg has had a lot of great bands in the recent past. As for whomever it was that said they hear about who's playing until they were gone, I'm sorry! I am the UB music chair, so I've booked most of the shows this year. I've been threatened on a few occasions not to advertise in the paper or anything, so it sucks. But if you ever want to know what's coming up at Knox, go to http://home.comcast.net/~baglunch2/shows.html. sooo Don't Look Down is pop-punk recorded, and skate-punk that sounds like Thrice live...Yep that makes sense to me. God I would kill to have a small(ish) town where Def Jux acts were a regular feature. I just can't get into Maxeen. Do all these bands play at Knox when they roll through? I'm from G-burg, and I never hear of any of these shows until they're gone. ::crossess fingers so I can hopefully see Somerset in Cleveland on Friday:: "best unsigned band in America" = "best unsigned band that will let me hang out with them" i am from galesburg. sadly enough. we actually get lots of big acts. atmosphere and lots of def jux acts have rolled through in recent years. thursday made galesburg a consistent touring stop until their last album when they blew up. lots of hardcore acts grace galesburg with their presence. i don't really understand it, but the scene is huge at home. fuck yeah, g-burg w00t. | Features
