The Rock Against Bush 2004 tour through the southwest was aimed mainly at colleges and universities and this stop was at the Bren Events Center, UC Irvine. With tickets only $6 if you were a student, I'd guess the show attracted just over 1000 people to nearly fill the floor and the stands about halfway. The show got started early with openers Aggro Tommy, from Long Beach, with their female-fronted melodic sound. The singer is evidently married to Erik of NOFX and the drummer used to play in No Doubt way back in the day. They weren't bad and entertained the early arrivals. Punk is not about not being a pussy No one gives a fuck about you or what you think lieutenant, kill yourself now please. Punk is not about not being a pussy I support Bush a real man, not a pussy like kerry or kuinich or nader, buncha homos, being a pussy is not punk, "tolerance" and talking about it all the time is not punk. BUSH is punk! san diego "kicks my black ass bitch"...really, bigot? hmmmm......i stand corrected, me and my black ass will go post elsewhere. i'll leave punk music to white kids who still live with their moms in university city. Great Concert. Great Cause. Support Rock against Bush tour and buy the cd. Now on a side note, I feel that I must comment that I hate 'mosh pits'. Don't get me wrong, when I am watching a band I love perform live there is a big stupid grin on my face and Carebears are dancing inside my head. Maybe I will even dance if I feel inclined. However, running around in circles seems to be the most ridiculous concept ever. It's like professional sports. Fine if you're into them, but I really have no idea how you can find entertainment in a bunch of guys essentially touting, "I'm better than you." "Oh yeah, eat Touchdown!" The Rock Against Bush comp is really weak. There are a couple of standout tracks (though that notion may be heavily dependent on which bands you like), however as a compilation itself, it is incredibly sloppy. The track listing seems to follow no such formula and there is zero grace to be found. The New Found Glory song sticks out like a sore thumb and ending the album with an acoustic Ataris song really seems to go against any spirit the album had attempted to maintain. It's a haven for unreleased material of bands you may like, but it's really better suited as a mixtape you made on the go for music on the subway, as opposed to a 'fully functioning' comp. jello sang too drunk to fuck at santa barbara and im pretty sure at berkeley too. alkaline covered the damned's "wait for the blackout" it's on their split with one man army too... the san diego show was only better in the set list but the sound was better at uci. did you really expect most of the "asian" population of uci to show up to this even if they only had to pay six bucks?? i mean come on say if michael bolton played uci and it was a buck would you go? and did jello come up on stage to sing "too drunk to fuck" anywhere but in san diego? just a question i wasn't sure of if anyone else saw him hop on stage at any of the other shows let me know. The Rock Against Bush comp is not nearly as good as I thought. There's only like 6 or 7 songs that I like. no you fucken suck...san diego kicks your black ass bitch Key word- almost - he's going down in flames. "Umm, uh, I'm sure something will come to me...." -bush Watch Bob Woodward on Larry King tonight. "I will vote for George Bush, and I am a Republican. I am still more punk than any of you little bitches. So there." Yeah, I mean come on, after watching his press conference do you think he really has a chance in a serious debate with anyone? Also with all the credible people suddenly coming out and exposing Iraq for what it really was I think he is done for... san diego sucks and so do you Go ahead and vote for Bush... if that last press conference of his was any indication of how he'll be dealing with press come November he's going down in flames. The man cannot answer a question straight. alright review...but the san diego show was better bitches I will vote for George Bush, and I am a Republican. I am still more punk than any of you little bitches. So there. is this known to hit anywhere besides california yet? Forgot how to play the decline.... puh. I agree with the last comment in the sense that being punk transcends (sp?) party lines, but Mike has an opinion and he was definitely stating it last Wednesday. I agree with him, and he presents the facts in his support, but they're still opinions and he is trying to promote them. i don't think fat mike is telling you that you must vote democrat to be a punk. and those impressionable enough to even believe that shouldn't even be voting in the first place. i almost listened to you until you pulled out the 'u'...learn some spelling and grammar and we'll talk... I genuinely love NOFX and i have for years. However, i hate this whole punk voter thing. I think Fat Mike is using his influence by saying to be punk you must vote democrat. While i will most likely always vote democrat, i dont get why fat mike could get pretensious and tell people how to vote. He's a good guy and all but i dont think he realizes that he's doing the same thing that the government does everyday-tell u what to do. I'm not hating but i think i make a fair point about an organization that tells u to register green and vote democrat. In my opinion politics are a personally choice and making up your own mind determines who is actually a "punk" just figured id throw in my 2 cents. Plus i really cant buy Fat Mike's politics after so many years of apolitical stuff. I have alot more respect for bands like Propagandhi and LOC personally. oh, yeah..."newbies" nice buddy what've ya been seein shows since, what your senior year which was ummm...let's see...oh yeah 2001. old schoolers rule. ha ha. shit, i bet you can remember way back to when the decline came out, huh? wow. what was punk like all the way back then? inform me oh sage like wise man.......ass. One last thing. There were lost shoes, lost wallets and "that guys" everywhere. Newbies.. Bemused, you are a moron. Green Day has a second guitar player on stage too and I've never heard anyone bitch about that. How bout no. The guy doesn't deserve any credit, all he does is help out Skiba play the parts. Skiba still wrote all the guitar parts they play, so I think its enough that he introduces the guy at the start of the show. alkaline trio need to actually introduce the fourth member and change their name or something I respect NOFX, and their live show is probably real fun. Oh, and the 4th member of Alk3 was on stage the whole set. I thought I mentioned that in the review. Sorry about my memory... I do remember "Six Pack Girls", "My Heart Is Yearning", and "The Brews" being played. I'm not sure what the cover Alk3 did, but I remember "Blue Carolina" being played. And yes, Peace, Unity, and Your Mom is the best show on KUCI but now we got Indie 103.1 at least, so we aren't stuck with KROQ. Yeah, at Warped 2 years ago I saw Chris from the Bosstones jump in during The Decline. punk rock at the university of chinese immigrants. I remember hearing something about Chris from the Bosstones playing trombone on "The Decline" for some of their shows. I wish I could have seen that The one song i want nofx to play more than any of their songs (yes, even decline) is "kids of the k-hole". That was the first nofx song i ever heard and besides decline, it's their best. Have any of you ever seen it played live...? -mateo didn't know elmo was so political ? why would all the republicans come out to a show thats sole purpose is to ouste their candidate from office. Thats pretty shallow of them if they are willing to drop their morals just to watch a show by a bunch of washouts. yes washouts, add pennywise to that list too. Oh yeah, and political mike has about as much useful information as political Elmo. I just saw a new live clip that Alkaline Trio put up on their website. Seems this 4th guy now actually appears on stage, was it the case on this tour as well, was he on stage? great show both bands didn't dissapoint. alk3 played great but too short like he said. nofx threw in a couple of really rare live songs that he didn't mention. rico, scavenger type, falling in love, 6 pack girls, i wanna be an alcoholic, and bleeding heart disease. i've seen nofx way too many times to count and seeing those was a treat. the kids sucked but what else is new. i go to UCI and i went to the show and it was kick ass....fuck all of you that run your mouth about nofx. anteaters rule and totally reek of awesomeness!!!!! Yea I saw them at UC Riverside a few days before this...great show...Mike said Jello was supposed to come onstage for a Dead Kennedy's cover at their Irvine show. Guess he was lion... Last couple times I saw NOFX they played for nearly 80 mniutes, so yeah, I'd say 45 is shorter than normal...but 1000 ppl is pretty big crowd and it prolly got real tiring real fast moshing it up with that mob, especially if they played mosdtly fast stuff I'm patiently waiting on a Colorado show. NOFX played for 45 minutes and and Alkaline trio played for....eh, who gives a damn Hey, little "I-hate-NOFX-and-that-makes-me-hip" fagtards, you'd be fucking nowhere, if not for bands like that. Whether or not you admit it. nofx sucks. YES, 10 SCENE POINTS FOR ME. Hey punk insider has some audio interviews with Jello, Erik Melvin, and Greg Heston. In Jello's he talks about a newalbum he's making with the Melvins, anyone heard about that? what cover song did the alklaine trio do? Was it "Blackout"? I hate those Orange County young neo-cons....most ignorant self loathing fuckers you'll find. Why oh why oh why doesn't this go everywhere in the USA? This score is for the fact that this tour isn't coming to my time. Speaking of Jello Biafra, can anyone out there dispute how fucking great the Dead Kennedy's were? Fuck man, most records in my collection lost a little appeal over the years, but the DK shit just gets better with age. People may bitch how you can buy their shit at any mall; but fuck, they are just so fucking awesome. This vote is for NOFX not being dead yet Ha. I ruined your day, and I didn't even say the cursed word. First. Fuckers. You all suck. Why oh why oh why doesn't this go everywhere in the USA? |
