So NOFX comes to the sorta famous Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. This was the last place I would expect NOFX to put on their show from all their previous turndowns to come here.

After waiting about half an hour, the video screen turned on for about an hours worth of anti-Bush video. Authority Zero came on stage and the crowd was pumped up to see somebody on stage that wasn't a video screen. They started fast with "A Passage in Time" followed up by "One More Minute" and the pit started to grow as they tore up through their set. They continued their set with "Everyday" "Skys the Limit" "Super Bitch" and topped it all off with the surf guitar sounds of "La Surf."

Another hours worth of Anti-Bush video came on and then the whole venue went dark and The Alkaline Trio came on stage bursting in with "Armageddon" "We've Had Enough" and the pits started to grow bigger. Unfortunately, some large drunk college guys started to take out the smaller people in the pit. In between songs Matt S. told the big guys to fuck off. They slowed down a bit with "This Could be Love" and "All on Black." Then finished with "Private Eye" and "Radio" as well as a cover by The Damned. The Alkaline Trio are a very amazing band and are very amazing to see live.

Jello came on stage and most of the audience had mixed reactions about him and the political rants. He continued with his talk about the media and the recent Condoleeza Rice issue which was quite humorous. He continued talking about Bush's plan to send people to Mars and also commenting to become the media instead of hating it.

As soon as Jello left NOFX came on playing "Franco Un-American" but followed up with "The Seperation of Church and Skate" which got the crowd going. And for the first time in our small little city, two circle pits formed. Every so often they commented on how bad their visit to Bakersfield was because Eric was pelted by a slab of concrete. They played the song "Idiot Son of an Asshole" about none other than Bush. They continued with classics like "Bob" "Green Corn" "Leave it Alone" "The Brews" "Liza and Louise" "Stickin in my Eye" "Linoleum" "Too Drunk to Fuck" along with Jello Biafra (who is like over 200 lbs now and tries to be as energetic as he was in the Dead Kennedys era.) And a 3 minute version of "My Heart is Yearning" due to El Hefe losing his trumpet mouth piece. They ended the night with Eric Melvin playing an acordian and El Hefe on the trumpet for about 5 minutes.

Overall it was a good show and very humorous. It's good that they are getting people to register to vote but they could take it easy on the one hour ads between sets.

I didn't see the show you are talking about but i saw the same bands nofx, alk, and az on the rock against bush tour in tempe a couple of months ago. The fucked up thing was that i remeber az and alk and jello but god damn it by the time nofx came out i was so belligerently drunk that i don't remember what songs they play i only remember mike had orange hair i was and still am so pissed that my drinking fucked me over that night or maybe i fucked me over but the show kicked ass from the few bits and pieces i remember and i registered to vote bush ass out of office go kerry and free stern

That's brilliant.

"I know let's only rock against Bush in a state that usually votes democrate!".

As soon as they start spreading the word, I'll respect it a bit more. NOFX have more power than most any other modern pop-rock band, if they cared so much about stopping Bush, they'd leave the West Coast.

My friend goes to this school and he said he would have gone to the show but when he found out it was the Rock Against Bush tour he changed his mind.

Needless to say he's a neo-con.

I like the fact that this tour is going to conservative schools...ala UCI, San Diego, Cal Poly SLO......it would be a waste of time if they just went to the progressive schools.

I was on that tour, so let me begin. You drone on about how the videos between sets were an hour long, when in fact one video is EIGHT MINUTES LONG and the other is ELEVEN MINUTES LONG. And you neglect to mention that the videos were shown during the set changes, so they didn't delay the bands in any way. I don't know if you go to many shows, but it usually takes about 20-30 minutes to change the backline and shit, so the idea was to do something engaging during a time when nothing normally happens. An hour...puh-leeez! And Jello isn't 200 pounds, he's not even overwieght for crissakes, but it should be noted that he used to sing for a band called the Dead Kennedys, so show a little respect. So this is how the youth of America perceives things: 8 minutes equals an hour and a guy in his forties is disgustingly overweight. Great review."

I attended the same show, and i would agree on the part of the videos because there was music videos which was about 10 minutes, about 3 news clips about the 2000 election which was about 30 or 40 minutes, and a david cross video from last year for about 10 minutes, so it really was about an hour or so. But i think he did exaggerate on Jello being 200 lbs. or so, but he does at least look bigger than around his time with the Dead Kennedys.

can someone dwelve into David Cross's involvement with this tour. i'm just so fucking curious.

David Cross did a 30 minute comedy set at the first Rock Against Show in Austin, TX last month. If you buy the Rock Aganinst Bush comp. it also has David on it...

That's a really shitty Alkaline Trio set list, aside from Private Eye and Radio. But Matt's fucked up Radio live whenever I've seen them, so even that's sketchy.

I saw the last show of this tour and NOFX played a really strange setlist:
SCAVENGER TYPE!
DON'T CALL ME WHITE
I FUCKED YOUR MOM
WHOOPS I OD'd
The Longest Line and some other weird ones
and then they played some of the songs mentioned in this one.. (the brews, Franco unamerican, seperate the church and skate, Liza and Louise)
It was really cool to see scavenger type.. i was psyched about that

Anybody in Ann Arbor want to smoke some weed with me? It's 4/20 and I smoked the last of mine on sunday. This fucking sucks.

Also, the Trio songs on that new split are kinda weird and kinda weak. I'd say 2 out of 6 are dope, 2 are OK, and 2 are dreck. "Warbrain" kicks fucking ass though.
