| NOFX / Swingin' Utters / Epoxieslive in London2004 live show Review by: Joe See others by this writer Only registered users can post comments Published on May 11th 2004
It had been a while since NOFX had undergone a headline tour of the UK, and I was waiting in anticipation for months for this show, because NOFX are my favourite band (regardless of whether this makes me un-punk or not). The evening was soured by the fact that I had money stolen from me on the way to the gig, but I tried to put on a brave face and let the show take my mind off of it. The Epoxies, a synth-punk band recently signed to Fat Wreck, kicked things off and seemed to go down well with the crowd but were a bit samey and forgettable in my opinion - the singer seemed to try far too hard to stretch her vocal chords to their limit to no real effect. I was at the Newport (wales) gig. The utters sucked, they seemed like they really didn't wanna be there (they had the whole "lets get this over with attitude"). The Epoxies were entertaining, but crap none the less. NOFX were near perfect. Funny as fuck, interesting, crowd interaction (they let some gut propose to his girl on stage), and a fucking amazing setlist. i just saw NOFX last night at the brighton gig my god it was fucking amazing, i saw them in brixton but last ngihts show pissed all over that. It was quite an intimate venue and when i saw the stage i knew we were in for a good show. Thge epoxies got a shit deal as power was on and off all the time so there set was shitty but they were still cool and kept the crowd going. Whilst waiting for the utter at the bar el hefe walked by and nobody even noticed, he is actually a fucking nice guy and spoke to him for quite awile about things. The utters came on with a ton more energy from brixton and this time dident have me bored. Nofx were fuckign awersom i met mike jsut before they went on as he walked through the bar and was completly hell yeah. When they came on the crowd went wild and the atmosphere was awersom. They played for well over and hour could have easily been almost two. They played alot of things they dident play in london and said they wernt going to double up on things. Fucking so rad thoguh and it will take alot to beat that show. sarah from aggro tommy pardon me oh yeh the setlist in manchester on the 2nd nite was different. nofx were a bit shit. ohwel. the epoxies rooled tho. i was really lookin forward to nofx aswel i didnt go to this show cause it was fucking expensive. this score is for sarah sandin of the epoxies. hottest girl in a punk band, hands down. Dude what else did Fat Mike say? After the great Swingin'Utters played i knew my time at the show was coming to an end as NOFX put me to sleep...........................snoooooozefest! Seems like almost the same script they had for Newcastle. Kept talking about us crazy Scot's, and so they should.. Leaving us out of their tour. Still, it was was a good laugh anyway. - smit the epoxies were fucking different and sounds alright and its gay all the shit some arseholes gave them. The utter were very forgettable and left me looking at the time wanting nofx. came out all like it was a pub gig which was cool to see u know NO-FX (no light dimming no feedback guitar or some tune). played some dumb tune and then bust out there set overall was good leaving me wanting more but the crowd was shit, it was the brixton academy and there wasent even a pit going on just a big crush like it was some fucking blink show at wembley or some shit then there was some cunt throwing full bottles on stage of which mike got hit in the head and he almost took it also the drummer got hit on the hand and looked like he was in pain (u twat id haven been pissed if they left the stage after 2 songs cause they were a musicain down) but there set was good with alot of classics and great chat with the audience so lets hope there is a better crowd for any shows they do in future They played Green Corn too moron. Yeah it was a good show, but who else thought the utters were assholes?? And whats that silly tune NOFX opened with? hehe, NOFX are the only band that could make you dance to really silly music. How about when Fat Mike told under 18s to piss off, and got hit on the head with a bottle! i heard they suck live... Kill all the White man is on The Longest line you dumbass. I appear to have upset a lot of people. I don't care. " NOFX are definitely a good live band to check out." PS. The Epoxies were great live. I wasn't sure when I heard the album a few days ago but they're far better as a live act. The chick is hot, too. For all the idiots who think Fat Mike was being an asshole; I was talking to him after the Newcastle show and he said that him and GC are great friends; "funny guys, like brothers" yet GC's manager called him up a couple of weeks ago and told him that they wouldn't be on the Rock Against Bush compilation because it would hurt their careers. He left four messages on their phone, they didn't reply. Apparently they're no longer speaking to him for no reason. Jackoffs. El Hefe and Mike are the nicest guys to talk to in person. My respect for the band has gone even higher. Fat Mike goes golfing with the guys from Good Charlotte. He should make fun of himself for that. Yeah go to a show for NOFX and call The Epoxies "samey" (whatever that means). Fuck you. woo, i was there, someone broke their back apparently, and i thought swingin utters were nofx as i was tres wasted. what did that fat fuck say about scotalnd? the guy below me: How have so many people downloaded the new bad religion album already?? I haven't been able to download anything the past few months. Does Kazza just suck now or is there a new one out there thats better or are people just paying to download now? I'm just dying the see the utters again here. im going to see em in newcastle too I believe they open with a song called heart and soul. im going to see them tomorrow in Newcastle. Just to clear a couple of things up..(i wrote the review) - The Utters played more than 4 songs but I knew those ones, and Good Charlotte are no longer on the RAB comp because their label wouldn't let them do it, which is why Fat Mike insulted them. Thanks NOFX is awesome. So there. And last time I saw them they played "Im Telling Tim". for a long time I thought NOFX would go down as a credible band in the "history of punk music" if you will. say what you want about NOFX, but they are still an incredibly entertaining live band. go see them whenever you get the chance. I saw them on this tour last night, review tomorrow. I'm amazed NOFX would risk insulting Good Charlotte when they're on the Rock Against Bush comp. The Utters only played 4 songs?WTF "Kill all the white men" is from the Longest Line EP I was in Brixton too. They started with a sax intro actually. I thought it was flossing a dead horse at the time, but it wasnt. Rofl! they played the exact same setlist out here Good review. Short and sweet and well-informed. The Utters rock. I'll say it. The Utters are my favorite band on Fat. |
