On Friday, the Blood Brothers kicked off their summer US tour in none other than Minneapolis' own Triple Rock. The venue is relatively new and provides a perfect intimate setting for shows. The Blood Brothers took full advantage of this and rocked everyone's face off.

The first act was Start/Destruct. Apparently, they are a local band. They played 7 songs (I looked at the set list) and put on a relatively good show. The sound would have to be in the vein of At the Drive-In mixed with Q And Not U (No Kill No Beep Beep Era). I have to compliment the bassist on not giving up even though at the beginning his amp didn't work and he later broke a string on his bass. Also props to the band for having a badass keyboardist who played a small keyboard and his Farfisa at the same time, just like Axl would've wanted. 8.5/10.

Next up were the Chromatics. It's a guy/girl combo. Basically, the girl just played simple bass lines and the guy played guitar and sang. All of this happened over a drum machine. Unfortunately, it was as bad as it sounds. The music was monotonous and mellow and no one really got into it. They did have some cooler songs near the end when the guy took over on the bass and the girl played this weird flute-like thing. But overall, it was boring and most of the crowd used the time to converse. 5/10.

Kill Me Tomorrow was the next band to play. I had downloaded a couple of their MP3s before the show and was wondering how the songs would translate to a live setting, but they pulled off their industrial/punk sound quite well. Their setup was quite interesting. On the left side of the stage, their guitarist was surrounded by pedals and drum machines. At the center, there was a stand-up drum set and an expensive looking set of drum machines and synthesizers, which were used by their lead singer. Finally, their stunning bassist rounded out the line-up on stage right. Kill Me Tomorrow got the crowd more involved than the Chromatics. Many people in the audience were bobbing their heads, but this was not enough for KMT as the bassist reminded the audience to move more. Near the end of the set, the lead singer reminded the crowd to vote Dubya the fuck out of the office, which was nice. Songs I know that they played: "I Require Chocolate" "The Best Siren is a Flash Siren" "Skin's Getting Weird" and "This Is A Movie". 7.5/10.

Finally, it was time for the Blood Brothers to come on. As they played the first notes, all the apathy in the crowd disappeared. A huge push came up to the front, sending the speakers back. It was a Blood Fuckin Brothers show, the band moved, screamed, and did everything perfectly. One glitch came during Ambulance Vs. Ambulance when Jordan's microphone stopped working, but he quickly picked up another one and screamed along. I also had an issue with the set list. Though they played a lot of new songs which were good, I really wanted to hear "USA Nails" "Kiss of the Octopus" "Six Nightmares..." "I Know Where the Canaries and Crows Go." Oh well, they still kicked ass. 9.5/10

Here's the set list I took from the stage after the show:
Trash
Fucking's
Peacock
Feed Me
Guitarmy
Birth Skin
Apocalypse
B. Horses
Rats
Ambulance
Teen Heat
Jenn
Cecilia

Interesting thing about the set list is that it's written on the back of Mapquest directions from Seattle to Minneapolis. Apparently, it's 1661.40 miles.

ok sorry then anchors but there are a fair share of idiots on here who would of thought that comment was the bomb jiggidy.

But the Blood Brothers really do look like assholes. They wear sideways baseball caps, and the Limp Bizkit connection is just too much.

    Fuck this band.

    Dude, I was being facetious.

He wasn't being clever, he was being a third grader.

I know text isn't the best medium for sarcasm, but that was pretty blaringly obvious.

anchors, you're an idiot and your anonymous pal is an idiot as well. Not that you hate the blood brothers but that you agreed with that stupid ass comment and called it clever.

The Blood Brothers are a bunch of fags. They dance like fags on stage and they have the most stupid lyrics/song titles ever. Ambulance vs Ambulance? What is that about? crying because your best friend's ambulance is cooler than yours? Fuckings greatest hits? whats that about? ALl of their greatest fudge packings!

    GREAT JOB BB!

Oh also, Kill Me Tomorrow was awesome. The Start Destruct suck balls. The new Blood Brothers songs are pretty sweet and my girlfriend bought KMT underpants.

    GT.

The Chromatics are one of my favorite bands, but there was no excuse for the steaming shitpile of a set that they played.

I was so incredibly dissapointed. Oh well, the crowd was just a bunch of middle schoolers anyways. Lame. I'm old.

    Grant's Tomb.

The setlist was pretty much the same for toronto... well they played all the same old songs... and since I didn't know the new songs I just gather it's the same setlist. Add Doctor, Doctor though.

ACTUALLY the blood brothers thoguh are entertaining...to WATCH live cant even play the songs on time, everytime ive seen them the songs are off...its not that hard...they do play on odd time signatures..but WHAT they play isnt that hard at all..and for how mcuh they tour youd think they would have that all worked out by now...but after five times of seeing them its still the same every show.

    BSD-

I hear you on that one. The Blood Brothers are getting a terrible new scenester fan-base due to the fact that they scream and are all young and cute. Back in September when I saw them in Chicago, I actually heard a 15 year old girl go "Ooooh...look at their pants!!" In reference to The Blood Brothers. I almost vomited, but then, instead, I dragged about 3-4 annoying little girls into a vicious pit that you KNOW was full of true fans of The Blood Brothers.

Great, now people are going to yell at me for fucking up little girls in a pit. Trust me, they deserved it.

Saw this show in Chicago. I dunno about you but I liked the Chromatics for what they were. Kill Me Tomorrow was hot. Blood Brothers were great but I really wish they had played more released stuff. I'm excited about that Against Me!/Blood Brothers tour though.

Go check this show out if it comes to your town.

seeing this thursday night in boston -- should be pretty good

    Anonymous (July 6, 2004)

blood brothers look like a bunch of assholes.

    Anonymous (July 6, 2004)

I don't know why the Blood Brothers have such horrible new fans. I guess they hear the screaming and think "oh man this is just like FATA" then hear the tempo changes and think "oh christ these guys are unique!"

To be honest, they're a pretty cool math rock band, but nothing too special.

I'm surprised there's been no "Blod Brthrz?!?>Tht's NOT PUNK! BUY THE NEW VANDALS RECORD!1111!!!1!!" posts yet.

Blood Brothers rock. I wish they'd tour the UK again, I missed them doing the joint tour with Pretty Girls Make Graves. I cried like the guy from Dashboard Confessional about that one.

    thriceequalsgod (July 6, 2004)

I'm going to this show in Brooklyn. I think I have one more extra ticket if anyone wants to come.

Just leave a comment here and we'll see.

hopefully, you live in the NYC/Long Island area.
