i heard "i dont know" and it sounded like these guys played the kind of pop-punk i like. it was fast, funny, and just awesome. i bought their cd at warped tour and after one listen despertly wanted to go back to their booth and get my $10 back. this cd was just a piece of trash, the songs all had the same formula and were just plain fucking shit. i felt really ripped off and i can see why this band was dropped from their lable and then broke up. i still really want my 10 bones back.

I saw the F-Ups play with Tsunami Bomb, and they were pretty terrible. The only song I remember from their set was like "1,2,3,4 DIE!". It was really funny.

I actually do like this album enough to defend them if someone gives them massive amounts of shit. Do they play the hardcore that most of you want to hear because that's "punk rock"? Fuck no, but they still play punk rock. Punk is anything with three chords and a kid singing something about himself or what he wants to see happen to the world. Bad Religion did that with their political songs. I won't compare these guys to BR, but they are a good example of how personal punk music is.
In any case, I can sort of see this becoming something like 39/Smooth in the scheme of things, and you'll see that when they start tightening up the songwriting. They put on a fun live show, especially "at home" in Minneapolis.

The F-ups are the Best band ever!! I love all their songs. My fav is crack ho. They need another cd for the ppl that already kno all their songs (like me).

I also agree. I am all for Greenday, but Kerplunk wasn't that good. Dookie is one of the greatest punk albums of all time, and makes later works like Nimrod look bad, but they were still amazing, but not "as" good as Dookie.

I only got to hear Kerplunk after I brought Nimrod in..1997? and so that may have influenced my decision however

Although I haven't listened to the album, I have seen their MySpace music video and listened to their songs and I can fairly say that this is really unimaginitive and unpinspiring. This just sounds very mid-90s melodic punk.

Hmmm... I kinda expected all these comments (as I already mentioned in the review). Really, you guys are so predictable! Actually, as predictable as you seem to be able to predict a band's sound upon their bandname, their age and clothes they wear. I gave this a 4 and a half star rating, and I'm not ashamed of that, even though these guys look propostorous indeed. After listening to punkrock for about 20 years (oh, and I love the FU's as well), I have come to the simple conclusion that I think an album is good when the thing is in my CD-changer for more than once, and I can tell you this one got quite some spins in recent weeks.

I have given up on the idea that a really good album should be something innovating, played by musicians that are highly skilled and that have a cool non-commercial attitude quite a while ago. You can try to do that for a few years, but in the end there's only one thing that matters: whether you like the sound that is coming from that album. I agree, these teens look a bit childish and the marketing that comes with this is not representative of what our scene is all about, but damn, give this thing a listen first before judging the sound.

To the person saying my ratings are always too high... to my shame I have to acknowledge that I only review about 5% of the stuff I receive. I never wanted this hobby to become a job, so I just review the stuff I like. And I just hate to disappoint people as well.

Oh, and this will sound nice in your ears: my 2 kids (age 3 and 6) just adore this album! It tells a bit about the catchiness in my opinion, but I'm sure you'll see it as a proof of something less positive.

If we have mohawks we'll look so much punker and tougher than those other salad tossers. i havent heard this album, but the rating looks a little high for a review that contains words like "pop punk" and "minnesota." granted its quite popular to rag on pop punk these days, i hate to wave the 'punk is dead' flag, but these kids definitely aint no saviors of the genre. i have a feeling the mohawks they don are less a statement against the dominant class (again: pop punk teenagers from minnesota) and more falling back into conformist fashion. i should at least listen to them first before i start trashing them, but i aint forking over 18 bucks for mere messageboard rant privelages.

This band is absolute crap.

Repeating what I wrote the first time this band popped up- there's already a Fuckups AND an FUs. Both 80s punk bands would mop the floor with these kids any day of the week. Here's details for folks who don't know either of these bands.

The Fuckups, from San Francisco, were most infamous for their absolutely great "FU82" 7inch on Fowl Records and their dodgy singer Bob Noxious.

The FUs, from Boston, were on the vital "This Is Boston Not LA" and put out 2 great hardcore classic 12"s "Kill For Christ" and "My America" before graduating to more rock-ish punk on later records. They've been kept in print by Taang Records. They had a right-ward turn politically later on in their career. "Unite and Lose" is an undeniable tune.

I'm really hating that singer from drowning pool - i want to run into him so I can knock that fucker out. leather pants and shoulder length hair? I bet he bangs a lot of underage girls, much like our friends the f-ups - maybe the name means Fuck UPS - as in united parcel service. maybe they worked there and some supervisor tried some funny shot with them and they wouldn't put out, so they got fired and when they were escorted out the building they were like "man F ups!"
