The picture is this: 4 Minnesota teenagers that just got out of high school get first place in a local talent contest and soon after start recording their debut album for Capitol Records and will play this year’s Warped Tour. My first reflections have been something like “punkrock marketing product” and “shitty pop-punk exploitation” and a slightly sorrow feeling towards the members in this band who probably will see their dreams getting shattered in no time and who can expect themselves a disappointing future where all the promises and money deals turn out to be fake. i heard "i dont know" and it sounded like these guys played the kind of pop-punk i like. it was fast, funny, and just awesome. i bought their cd at warped tour and after one listen despertly wanted to go back to their booth and get my $10 back. this cd was just a piece of trash, the songs all had the same formula and were just plain fucking shit. i felt really ripped off and i can see why this band was dropped from their lable and then broke up. i still really want my 10 bones back. I saw the F-Ups play with Tsunami Bomb, and they were pretty terrible. The only song I remember from their set was like "1,2,3,4 DIE!". It was really funny. I loved it I live in Rochester, MN and My older sister went to high school with them at Studio Academy. I'm a big fan! What are you on about? http://www.trinitytc.com/888/casino-directory-2005.html The lyrics are a little "juvenile" but the songs are so catchey it's sick... if you like blink 182, the starting line, and new found glory, check out this really awesome band Stanley. listen to them at this link: www.purevolume.com/stanley I actually do like this album enough to defend them if someone gives them massive amounts of shit. Do they play the hardcore that most of you want to hear because that's "punk rock"? Fuck no, but they still play punk rock. Punk is anything with three chords and a kid singing something about himself or what he wants to see happen to the world. Bad Religion did that with their political songs. I won't compare these guys to BR, but they are a good example of how personal punk music is. The F-ups are the Best band ever!! I love all their songs. My fav is crack ho. They need another cd for the ppl that already kno all their songs (like me). I saw another guy comment on their name. What a joke. A true punk rock parody. The Fuck Up's (FU's) of old school fame have not reached these boys from MN. What a pity. You think their label would advise them on this shit. Or do a search, or something. Granted, they do put a different spin on the name, but in essence, IT'S THE SAME DAMN THING. Kids, please, do your homework. I'm embarrased for you. I expected these guys to be real Good Charlotte-esque pretty boys, but they have faces only a mother could love. Damn they ugly. The videos are hilarious too. yea hearing kerplunk in 97 would def. influence your decision. i wasnt saying its green day's best as you guys seem to think, i was saying it was damn good for 18 yr. olds in 1992 to write that. i like their later work better, but back in the day, that shit was cutting edge pop punk I also agree. I am all for Greenday, but Kerplunk wasn't that good. Dookie is one of the greatest punk albums of all time, and makes later works like Nimrod look bad, but they were still amazing, but not "as" good as Dookie. I don't agree that Kerplunk is a good album. And Green Day is my favorite band. uhh, so wait. the new 'clean cut pop punkers w/ tats' (good charlotte/simple plan) is now not the major label new tip? its some sorta safe pop punk but more raw or what? i don't get it. i can't even formulate the words. Why the fuck are you commenting about how i write. Hey Dumbass! This is for commenting on the new F-Ups Album. Now if your done trying to be smart, how about you give the album a comment. Do you enjoy going around finding comments and correcting people's little insignificant mistakes. Wow you are a fag. Hey Look! No Mistakes or Abbreviations! well if you're trying to prove a point, and people see you spelling stupidly, they might disregard your opinion, as you seem like you are 12 years old.. Meh, Who gives a shit if im putting abbreviations. Im not trying to prove that im intelligent, im just proving my point an abbreviations is faster... So FUK U! "So the band tries to convey this Punk look, but who cares really. Think about it, if you were in a band you would do anything to make it big. There are so many bands that have amazing talent, but just dont get their music out enough. At least they have a record company and are selling music. They are doing better than all u people that think you are in a band. I like there music and i really dont care what they look or act like. Im not gonna go out and get a mohawk after listening to there songs. Im just about the music." We're a bunch of guys from Rochester, MN that make music with guitars and drums and bass and voice noises and stuff like that. Although I haven't listened to the album, I have seen their MySpace music video and listened to their songs and I can fairly say that this is really unimaginitive and unpinspiring. This just sounds very mid-90s melodic punk. So the band tries to convey this Punk look, but who cares really. Im just about the music. everyone in this band would greatly benefit from a fierce donkey punch - I hope to be purchasing hamburgers or gas or maybe even sexual favors from them once their label drops them. Young children and punk! Hmmm... I kinda expected all these comments (as I already mentioned in the review). Really, you guys are so predictable! Actually, as predictable as you seem to be able to predict a band's sound upon their bandname, their age and clothes they wear. I gave this a 4 and a half star rating, and I'm not ashamed of that, even though these guys look propostorous indeed. After listening to punkrock for about 20 years (oh, and I love the FU's as well), I have come to the simple conclusion that I think an album is good when the thing is in my CD-changer for more than once, and I can tell you this one got quite some spins in recent weeks. If we have mohawks we'll look so much punker and tougher than those other salad tossers. Flipping off the camera is also cool, maybe we should consider shitting on stage and throwing the shit into the crowd, some golden showers? I'm going to strap some dynamite in myself and jump into the crowd taking out all them. I just can't imagine the band's thinking when they decided to use this name. There are actually a few good songs on this cd. The bad songs though are really fucking lame and they repeat the same words over and over and over and over and over. Songs 3 and 5 are the best(song 5 is the one from the new Warped comp which is the only reason I bought this cd). This ain't no Iron Maiden - these boys sound like a bunch of damn salad tossers! "OMG these guys r like so kewl Im so punk I think I'll go to Hot Topic and buy their shirt along with some studded belts and studded maxi pads. U guyz r haters these guys are as punk rawk as Avril. I let MTV tell me what's cool and rebellious and the trend. Corporate sponsership of an antisocial image and lifestyle is soooo kewl becuz overpriviledged kidz like us can relate to it - just like with hardcore rap." This is really similar to Adam's comment about The Black Maria the other day, but I found their website's description of the album to be hilarious. OMG these guys r like so kewl Im so punk I think I'll go to Hot Topic and buy their shirt along with some studded belts and studded maxi pads. U guyz r haters these guys are as punk rawk as Avril. I let MTV tell me what's cool and rebellious and the trend. Corporate sponsership of an antisocial image and lifestyle is soooo kewl becuz overpriviledged kidz like us can relate to it - just like with hardcore rap. So... this gimmick is swearing. Cool anyone watch the videos? i can just picture the director saying "punks are angry! flick off the camera 10 times, that'll show them you're angry! yeah! now...make, some....CRAZY look with your eyes! yeah, that's it!" watching the video on their website ruined my night until reno 911 came on i havent heard this album, but the rating looks a little high for a review that contains words like "pop punk" and "minnesota." granted its quite popular to rag on pop punk these days, i hate to wave the 'punk is dead' flag, but these kids definitely aint no saviors of the genre. i have a feeling the mohawks they don are less a statement against the dominant class (again: pop punk teenagers from minnesota) and more falling back into conformist fashion. i should at least listen to them first before i start trashing them, but i aint forking over 18 bucks for mere messageboard rant privelages. I read the same thing...the FUs went along the lines of FEAR....someone else did the same thing, but I can't remember for the life of me who it was... The FU's were great. This shit is naw ting good ese I was cruzin' in my sheavey mang and my homie put dis on I says wha choo do mang ? he says to listen and I was like mang dis shit sucks ese. I'm gonna cut dis fuckers mang like stab and sheet. Moral of the story - don't thump dis shit in naw sheavey mang Oh dude, how fucking blatant isCapitol's intent on this one?!!! Repeating what I wrote the first time this band popped up- there's already a Fuckups AND an FUs. Both 80s punk bands would mop the floor with these kids any day of the week. Here's details for folks who don't know either of these bands. I'm really hating that singer from drowning pool - i want to run into him so I can knock that fucker out. leather pants and shoulder length hair? I bet he bangs a lot of underage girls, much like our friends the f-ups - maybe the name means Fuck UPS - as in united parcel service. maybe they worked there and some supervisor tried some funny shot with them and they wouldn't put out, so they got fired and when they were escorted out the building they were like "man F ups!" I'm not a pop-punk hating prick, buddy. To the people who said never to trust the reviewer Hein, because he always rates albums so high... He (instead of you poppunk hating pricks) has a full day time job and is plain busy. He also runs punkupdates.com where he posts all of his reviews, he just copy/paste's the good cd's towards here. Nothing wong with that really... "You have to give credit to Nirvana, because they didn't parade around like they deserved what they got (which they didn't), unlike so many new bands who are made up of naive 16 year olds who picked up their instrument less than a year ago. " "we can all take comfort in the fact that the label will rape these kids ten times til tuesday. they'll never see a dime." (from the same guy who wrote the last comment...) And can't there be a feature here so you don't have to give the band a rating? *does not endorse 9/10 rating for the dangerously-titled F-Ups* we can all take comfort in the fact that the label will rape these kids ten times til tuesday. they'll never see a dime. How can you fucking trust the guy that reviewed this though...check out his other reviews...he has never given anything less than 3.5 stars. That's 7 out of 10. No wonder 'The F-Ups' get fucking 9/10. Cool review. I actually think I'll check this out. Sometimes you guys forget that IT'S JUST MUSIC! this band makes me want to listen to the hippos. I guess they "F-ed Up" when they formed his band (hyuck hyuck). these guys are so f-ing extreme I hope they put a song on the next tony hawk game so I can beat off to it whilst I insert my other hand into my rectum and pull out better shit than this You have to give credit to Nirvana, because they didn't parade around like they deserved what they got (which they didn't), unlike so many new bands who are made up of naive 16 year olds who picked up their instrument less than a year ago. this is the kind of shit that gets me depressed. "I bet they don't even know who Pete Shelley is." "purchased the Detroit Pisons NBA Championship DVD today. Seriously... "signed to Capitol", after one fucking show??? A talent show, no less! And not to knock this review or anything, because in all seriousness, it's a great review for a shitty band; but this review could have easily been kneeding the balls of the latest Simple Plan record. That's what pisses me off about the recent airwave invasion of psuedo-punk bands--they all sound the same. The only difference about this band is their sorry attempt at masking their sugar coated bullshit by tossing a few F-words into the mix. Hmm, I wonder if they'll introduce themselves as the FUCK UPS at their colisuem shows when no major label execs aren't around to slap them on the wrist for it...? Jeez, I was hoping this review was going to flame the shit out of this fuckin' band. Give me a fucking break. these guys have funny haircuts. funny like lars and tim. I don't need to listen to it to know its bad. Their website profiles have "Favorite cigarettes" as a question. Lame. Number of people who have so far commented and have also heard this album: 0 So it's generic pop-punk, but it gets 4 and a half stars? I purchased the Detroit Pisons NBA Championship DVD today. The F-Ups? Give me a fucking break. Grow some balls & call yourselves the Fuck Ups. In the review it says "Capitol Records" but over on the right it says "Columbia" when it is infact on Capitol. | Features
