Benzos's debut is the type of album that draws heavily upon heralded mainstream acts from both past and present and likewise manages to add a little something extra to balance out the originality and inspiration. Morning Stanzos is a crafty disc combining light doses of post-punk mixed with indie pop and college rock, awash in atmospheric synthesizers and strong lead vocals, all viewed through a bizzarrely melancholic filter. But as the record progresses, Benzos goes awry; the band seems to become rather directionless, whereas their initial intentions seem in place and rightfully focused.

good for relaxing really. lemme ask you a question: Are you gay? lemme ask you a question...how are these guys asshole rockstars? did they not say hi to you in the street? did they walk by you at a show you attended? rockstar is the last word i would use to describe this band. sounds like guys who put more of their time into doing something new and working on strengthening that sound than to dress up, wear makeup, act pretentious and like an "asshole" to anyone else. when you finish your schooling and can raise your vocabulary 10 notches, then maybe you'll have something more insightful to offer up. boring boring boring |
