Isis have a talent for melding elaborate shoegazer textures that are eloquent and haunting with a massive amount of force that is both crushing and beautiful. They are a pendulum that swings back and forth between the pristine passages of instrumental indie and the all-out fury of doom metal. So, it only makes sense then that if someone were to remix an Isis song, this subtlety and aggression dichotomy would need to be present in order for the song to succeed. On Oceanic: Remixes/Reinterpretations, this is just the case.

they are just lame so two contradicting opinions. One dude says they're for pretentious dudes to namedrop and look sophisticated while the guy above him thinks that they are a half-assed band that tries a bit of everything but ultimitely remains mediocre. Laugh out loud. ISIS ain't bad, but let's face it- for every genre they try to belong to, a smart listener could cite half a dozen better bands. this is just for the super cool -I understand this music - dudes...I hate you this is pretty good at times, but I go through phases of really liking it and then thinking its just noise. Panoptican is miles better. Justin Broadrick's version of "Hym" is a masterpiece. It's true though, it's really a hit and miss record. More a hit if you're a big fan of ISIS' Oceanic. Score is for Isis in general. I'm still listening to Panopticon. well anything mike patton does is great. ISIS is like...the best band in the world. i still probably won't buy this though because i don't really care about remixes. maybe if i see it cheap. I do not get this group at all. Neurosis' "Eye Of The Storm" = way better these are pretty hit and miss from what I've heard. some are jaw-dropping good while others are god awful. Mike Patton's is great though. |
